This is a tremendous performance. Many years ago I saw Timofei Dokshizer playinng this concerto and thought he was great. I now consider Nakariakov's interpretation superior to anything else I've heard. Thanks for posting this video.
Nakariakov's interpretation of the opening might be called (in Italian) "con slancio," with dash or impetus. He wisely chooses to avoid bombast. With the talent and technique that he displays here, he has earned the right to his interpretation and our respect. Personally, I think his approach fits very well with the rest of the movement.
Secondo me questa non è una delle migliori performance, soprattutto l'inizio non mi è piaciuto!!!! Nakariakov resta comunque un talento indiscusso!!!!
Does anyone know where I can order the sheet music for this full orchestra arrangement, or at least a wind ensemble arrangement? All I can find is the piano accompaniment, which frankly does not do the piece justice.
@Andante37 I believe you still have to rent the full orchestral score from International. it was composed in 1950, and is still subject to copyright law.
Absolutely stunning :) for me personally the opening could be a little bigger but I guess that's just personal taste. Unbelievable playing though, one of the very best
@XGravityChildrenX and @MattewRueth the unhappy face is a result of his trumpet playing embouchure

As far as performances of the Arutiunian go, I'd say this is pretty much definitive.

@Slowmo118 I agree. The beginning could have been a lot stonger. But who am I to complain...
