"We, The People", do not (and havem't for about 100 years) decide jack shit in The United States of America. Anyone foolish enough to believe otherwise is simply at a disadvantage. You don't actually "elect" your leaders. You're handed the illusion that you actually have some recourse of say-so in the internal and external affairs and policies of your nation, but you really don't decide anything.
