Why the hell is this even a debate? Both genres gave us phenomenal bands such as Soundgarden, Nirvana (grunge), Motley Crue, Guns N' Roses(hair metal), and Alice in Chains(the rare crossbreed of both). Thus proving that both genres are worth listening to.

In my opinion grungebands got cool attitude, but almost all of their music is boring. Many 80s hair metal bands are also quite loose farts, but those hair metal/hard rocks bands that are good really are better than any grunge band.
GNR was a middle ground thing really. Part of Apettite's success was its tougher sound and attitude than glam bands. A lot of their lyrics were about "street" stuff everyone goes through and can relate to, unlike glam bands who were all about partying and expensive cars and shit.

I think its stupid that anyone things Grunge music killed 80s Pop Metal, Pop Metal did its self in and refused to change to fit the times. That's what killed it, not Grunge.
I grew up on 70's & 80's music and one of the things I encounter with about 99% of all grunge fans is a need to superfluously explain grunge in immense detail. It's kind of like listening to a calculus professor explain a very complex problem.
Ask a metalhead/hard rocker what they think about their music and they'll simply say "it rocks" or "it kicks ass" whereas listening to a grunger explaing grunge will sound something like "well, A=B=C=D and W=X=Y=Z"! Why go through all that!?
Last I checked in the 21st century bands like Motley Crue, Poison, KISS, Cinderella, etc are still touring and fans of all ages love them...bands like Alice in Chain, Nirvana, Soundgarden dont tour anymore. Hair Metal beat out Grunge in the long run cause its much catchier, awesome solos, great lyrics, and just plain fun :D

Mr. Scary: This song is instrumental. Hair metalists have the instrumental capabilites to do a song without lyrics. Can grunge do that? Didn't think so. You have fun having ur bands rely solely on lyrics.
Not all hair metal is poser glam. Quit comparing everything to Poison. Have you ever even seen Dokken? They use very little spandex and the only real Hair Metal outfit quality is their hairdos. Oh, and of course their style of playing.

I grew up on 70's & 80's music and one of the things I encounter with about 99% of all grunge fans is a need to superfluously explain grunge in immense detail. It's kind of like listening to a calculus professor explain a very complex problem.
Ask a metalhead/hard rocker what they think about their music and they'll simply say "it rocks" or "it kicks ass" whereas listening to a grunger explaing grunge will sound something like "well, A=B=C=D and W=X=Y=Z"! Why go through all that!?

Last I checked in the 21st century bands like Motley Crue, Poison, KISS, Cinderella, etc are still touring and fans of all ages love them...bands like Alice in Chain, Nirvana, Soundgarden dont tour anymore. Hair Metal beat out Grunge in the long run cause its much catchier, awesome solos, great lyrics, and just plain fun :D

It is music for the masses. The chords are simple, the guitar playing is sloppy and the crowd is usually teenagers searching for an identity. I have also been to many heavy metal shows and they are pretty scary. The people are far more extreme, they wear black leather, studs and look very agressive. A lot of them are bikers.

I really hate it when people use the hair metal gay outfits as an excuse to say they suck. They're music iz ALOT more elaborate then grunge, and alot kewlor, especially solo's.
Don't get me wrong. I like Soundgarden and love Alice in Chains, and one or two Nirvana songs, but grunge iz just a stepping stone compared to the stairway of musical epitome that iz hair metal (Not including their outfits of course...)
