Could you....dare I ask? Could you (breathless) find the piece entitled Entry of the Black Queen? I am about to scream (Not really) I am very excited. Thought I would never ever ever hear this music again!
The red knight who succumbs to the Black queen is David Ashmole a wonderful dancer who sadly died recently. This film was made in 1982 so it is 27 years old and the technique and what was acceptable then was quite different from today's standards. Back then the performance was fabulous not for the high extensions, but for something else more ephemeral than that which we see so often in the ballets performed today.
Wonderful! Thanks for uploading this clip. I remember watching it live - Margaret Barbieri as the Black Queen and David Bintley in the background as the 'feeble' Red King - he was so fantastic at acting this role he has remained in my memory ever since then. I also remember feeling sad that he went off to be a choreographer (! now I understand - he's a great choreographer) but at the time I loved his dancing!!
