@keodakilla It was a Halloween special and an intro to one of the Halloween stories. Don't just automatically assume this was a random gag like Family Guy.
This is not a parody, it's just parroting something with Simpsons characters insterted into it. It would be alright if this was the work of a fan but for professional, well-paid writers and animators it's just lazy.
@graemeoliver84 By inserting Simpsons characters they've trivialized the seriousness of the show. "Parroting something with Simpsons characters insterted [sic] into it" is precisely parody. I agree it's a little lazy though.
@tomfong292 What Simpsons used to do was take something from a film & fit it into the context of the story - eg. in Duffless the bit from Clockwork Orange where Alex reaches up to the woman's breasts is redone shot for shot as Bart reaching up to a pair of cupcakes (the cherries are like nipples) and then feeling sick (Lisa's been giving him shock treatment). Now that's rather clever and quite subtle, you'd only really recognise it if you'd seen the film. This on the hand is completely obvious.
@graemeoliver84 Your comparisons are irrelevant since this is an introduction and not part of the episode's story. In addition, how is this intro functionally different from the examples you mentioned? Parodying the Mad Men intro is not inherently different than parodying the Clockwork Orange scene. In fact, the Clockwork Orange scene is an EXACT EXAMPLE of what you said earlier, i.e. "Parroting something with Simpsons characters insterted [sic] into it." Pretty weak arguments you have there.
@tomfong292 As I said, the Clockwork Orange parody was subtle (Bart wasn't dressed like Alex or anything) and it fitted that particular scene (Bart can't touch the cupcakes because he's been through Lisa's experiments - watch the episode), this isn't subtle and it's tacked on (this story isn't anything to do with Mad Men). All I can say is I feel certain The Simpsons is nothing like as witty and funny as it was in the 90s, that's why I don't really watch it anymore. I think others feel the same.
@graemeoliver84 Again, silly comparisons. This is an INTRO, of course it's not going to be subtle. In addition, The Simpsons have always parodied popular cultural phenomena; Mad Men is one of them. As for the story not having anything to do with Mad Men, did you even watch the episode? It's entirely about advertising but with a grim twist. "All I can say is I feel The Simpsons is... etc etc" is just an opinion and detracts from your original argument, which was that this is not parody. It is.

Somehow Homer jumps from a nonexisting window from his living room. Did I miss an episode where the simpsons move to a penthouse suite 30 storeys high or something?
When this aired it seemed everybody was trying as hard as they could to prove that they had seen Mad Men. But barely anybody on the planet seemed t know Breaking Bad existed. It wasn't until 2010 that a lot of defile top ten lists started declaring it the best show on TV. Where were they in 2008? I mean, I understand, Breaking Bad is on a relatively low rated cable channel (not as much now though especially with walking dead beating records for cable) and I guess the only reason people noticed

Yawn I guess the hack writers at The Simpsons have basic cable and are able to tell what is popular. I can't wait until they do a Breaking Bad parody.
@casusbelli15 Amen to that. And with as much history as the Simpsons has and its' fame for being such a pop culture hit as well as one of the longest running sitcoms of all time, you know once you get recognized there, it's a show that hits' its' mark as you said.
