As a kid I never got past 7:46. I used to jump up and down on that thing for hours to get below it and it never worked.

I still don't know how you got Sonic yellow like that, though. How do you do it?

@laithsu When Sonic became yellow, I turned into Super Sonic. You need to get all 7 emeralds and then collect 50 rings. Once you have done this, jump in the air and while in the air, jump again. Super Sonic is invincible and it drains your rings. When your rings reach 0, you go back to normal Sonic.
