If you a Nokia user from the beginning you know how to fair with your apps and how to get the best out of ur phone.. I havent seen an app like Sleep screen by nokia for the Symbian 3 or anna devices.. They have their own taste... respect em
shit i suck that phone , yes i know thats greatest phone ever , but ive got one only for a week , n that fuckin camera cant focus . do someone know why ???
this is stupid what the fuck does this have too do with a drop from high onto the face on concrete this is stupid and pointles shaking a phone in a aluminum tin box ??????????
@fellerredseller I have it too but i hate it. same thing happening here. I think that area is exposed to more abrasion coz the phone is not flat u know.
@rbl777 - nothing... I don't have to be paid to share my experience... I still have my N8... I don't want an iPhone, Android, could care less for a Blackberry, or any other smartphone... I'd love Maemo and toy with that, but that's not the point. The point is that I saw this video, and I'm left to believe that my n8 = not built to the same quality standard as was in this video... Reiterating my previous post - it dropped... literally FELL onto the concrete from my knee!! Why are you even hating?
I just dropped mine an hour ago for my first time from about 1.5 ft (just above my knee) onto concrete and it absolutely CRACKED... gorilla glass is stupid... I'd rather have a flexible scratchable piece of glass that I can potentially wet sand and buff out than this!... it FELL 1.5 ft!!! what is that? 45cm??? utterly stupid...now I'm out $120 USD.

i dropped my n8 off a stone benchtop, onto tiles, screen down, no cracks no probs, n8 has its cons but every fone does, i have picked up 12 wlans while an iphone picked up 1 and yet the n8 seems to be a bit of an underdog
This is not a sliding test. It is a drop test and if you look carefully you can see there is an extra "step" that prevents the phones from sliding until they're at the very top ready to be dropped.
i dropped my N8 from waist height, on a marble flooring, and the black covering around the 3.5mm jack broke off....maybe it was d angle at which it dropped, but still....i love my N8 :) :)
I'm pretty sure my Nokia N800 didn't pass this test... Dropped it once on the concrete floor from chest height, and the camera popped out forever, and I lost the small magnet from the back cover, necessary to make the internal card available for virtual memory. That was very uncool.
not bragging or shit cuz i love mine, but i dropped it like 4 times, and it barely shows, but aluminium is too soft on this! i mean once it fell out of my pocket at school and it got a little bump at it's upper right, and i dropped it at new years eve and it slammed like 2 meters on the tile floor and it got white scratches and mine is black. but N8 ftw <3
@BlazingFury07 really? faker...I think you only have iphone and ipad, inuts, cos in your channel prove that you don't even have the phone, why do you LIE? dat's why I am sick of inuts liars.. @_@
The official drop test seems very mild! I have tortured my N8 by doing bowling with it, dropping it multiple times on the floor from a hight of 2+ metres! Then I slammed the camera (on the bottom) agains stone wall. Later I used some muscle to try to twist the phone multiple times. Last I slided it on concrete tiles diplay down. My N8 is not detroyed yet, however both plastic ends of the phone are loose, and the display is scratched really bad! Nokia should hire me to do proper torturing...
HTC/Google did a more professional video showing their drop and pressure tests. Actually quite interesting (watch?v=R1sz5c-R9h0), or search "Nexus One Episode 3: Testing"
and i'll see what it actually can do in the future since we'll have 4-5 updates in the next 12-15 months ....
also .. try to buy softwares like SPB mobile shell and slide unluck ... this to am using making the phone taste differently than normal symbian UI and turn off the transaction effects, you will see than what i mean ..
plus 99.99 present of the apps are really response and the once aren't are S60V5's ..
I have nokia n8, and when I'm working, I'm wearing gloves. And, yes, I can use capacitive touchscreen when I have my gloves on (just for small things accept calls, slide the screen, etc). Not same sensitive, but it is possible.
i had many cheap nokia candybar phone over the years (mostly 2000i series) and they have survived getting washed in the washing machine, sliding into the bank of the sacramento river, getting run over by my friend's nissan pathfinder while i was vacuuming my car, etc. usually what goes out first is the connection from the screen to the board i think. anyway still, they are very durable. tho eventually the plastic casing and battery cover get so worn, a slight fall will pop it apart, annoying.

the real shit is when the phone scratched nth abt falling some times the phone falls down from high place and nth happens but some times when the touchscreen scratches thats a problem !!
@psalmsninetyone they probably test phones until they break, then they see what broke, because that is probably the weakest link. then they probably beef that up or come up with some other solution.
@deepaschio OMG, so Nokia would go and spend millions of dollars on a testing facility which doesn't actually test their devices? This makes perfect business sense. Well spotted, deepaschio!
@mungttexnn Do you by any chance work for these guys? If not, can't you spot the way these things are revolving? It gives a good enough time for the phones to slide down to bottom.
I know you nokia fans are going to be butt hurt by this, and may cry... But this isn't a good drop test. The phone rolls down the sides of the machine, and lands mostly on its face or back. A real test is done on real flooring. A real test also sees phones landing on their corners
By the way, I've dropped my iPhone 4 twice on concrete with no shattered glass and hardly any scratching. Glass shatters. iPhone 4 or N8. Plastic is more durable. Plastic scratches. Take your pick.
@ct5hurricane ive literelly thrown my iPhone 3G at the ground and it still works fine and by thrown i mean PEGGED it at the ground. After about 2 years its starting to scratch. AFTER 2 YEARS!!
My dad drop his Nokia 6600 Slide. he accidentally dropped that phone on Concrete 3 times but there is a small scratch on the body that is okay, you can change your housing anytime. and it still working! so, i decided to choose NOKIA! I'm not a fanboy or something i just wanted to be myself and choosing the best phone!
Nokia N8 Has a Gorilla Glass and a Solid Housing Made of Aluminum. I'm Hoping the Nokia will make a 14 MegaPixel Carl Zeiss. Soon! if thats happen. haha. =)
if this is actually a real test then how the hell did the N95 8GB ever reach the market as everytime ive ever dropped it , it literally exploded into all its different parts.
@b191191 my mate has an n95 and has dropped it so many times and its still been working only lately did that battery start to have problem. same with my 6120 dropped it so much and it was find i had to pelt it at the ground in rage before it actually broke apart.
When I had the Nokia N95 I dropped it couple of times and it always worked after that. I eg. once was at Assembly demo party where I dropped the phone in the long stairs of party area. The phone bounced several meters down the stairs. The back cover and battery popped off place but nothing was broken. When I did put battery and back cover back in place everything worked just fine and there was not even big visible scratches in the plastic cover.
You guys really should go to visit Nokia factory and see that test live, .I have visited mobile phone factory once and I saw test like that. 1) The phone is actually dropped from higher than what people normally hold the phone. 2) It is not a sliding test like some of you guys claim, The test box is made so that the phone really drops. This is a standardized scientific test which makes sure that all tested devices will be tested the same way.
Shut up man. it's not that the damn thing is being dropped from any particular height, it's that the ends of the machine are made from some kind of ply wood or fiber board, which absorbs some of the shock.
Drop it on concrete, just one time, from half that height ...
this is basically a scientific experiment, reason why they use the box is to ensure the variables are controlled, the amount of spinning is the measure variable and 2 n8 to keep variable same, ensuring the best available test. Although i hav to agree, it'll be more accurate to drop it off the ground
Those of you who whine that the test is not accurate or they want to see what will happen if you drop a phone on concrete are are bunch of morons. This is a standardized test , almost all companies perform similar or maybe worse tests, this is nothing new
This video isn't for fan boy idiots that have their heads stuck up far into the respective companies ass. Its for people that actually care about quality and want to know how they stress test, irregardless what brand it is.
And you would see that it indeed drops the phone and not slides it since there is a small curve at each end so it drops the phone when the box is straight up...
My husbands nokia 5800 fall of his coat pocket while he was going 62 mph on his motorbike and the god damned phone survived :) only with it's some scratches. Couldn't be more lucky LOL
This is stupid, I bet after 5 drops on the concrete the screen will shatter. Why not do a real test. What kind of stupid test is this? The phone was just sliding down the side of the wall.....Any phone can withstand that.
I am truly impressed. Most of my gadgets break really easy. I always respect companies that make products that would last more time instead of selling me easily breakable plastics so I would absolutely have to buy a new product every year. It shows respect for the end consumer, it show Nokia isn't like most out there with the moto "The end user is stupid and should be manipulated."

Soon! if thats happen. haha. =)

if this is actually a real test then how the hell did the N95 8GB ever reach the market as everytime ive ever dropped it , it literally exploded into all its different parts.
taking 5 miniutes to re assemble

@b191191 my mate has an n95 and has dropped it so many times and its still been working only lately did that battery start to have problem. same with my 6120 dropped it so much and it was find i had to pelt it at the ground in rage before it actually broke apart.
HellboyJDB 1 year ago
@b191191

@b191191
5 minutes to put back the battery and the back cover? Come on.
And nothing BROKE. The iPhone doesn't disassemble, it literally breaks.

this test is unrealistic
1. the machine rotates, so the phone is actually sliding around instead of free dropping
2. it has metal plating, which absolves a large amount of shock as compared to concrete
any phone would survive their "drop test" in that machine
svnelvn 1 year ago
ok it deal with being dropped etc, why does it freeze when listeing to music?
simow06 1 year ago
The gorilla glass may not break but the body would definitely scratch on concrete, ashfalt and gravel.

wtf?

DROP THE DAMN PHONE FROM CHEST HEIGHT ON CONCRETE ...
xxmaticxx 1 year ago
You guys really should go to visit Nokia factory and see that test live, .I have visited mobile phone factory once and I saw test like that. 1) The phone is actually dropped from higher than what people normally hold the phone. 2) It is not a sliding test like some of you guys claim, The test box is made so that the phone really drops. This is a standardized scientific test which makes sure that all tested devices will be tested the same way.
miksuh 1 year ago 77
@miksuh
Shut up man. it's not that the damn thing is being dropped from any particular height, it's that the ends of the machine are made from some kind of ply wood or fiber board, which absorbs some of the shock.
Drop it on concrete, just one time, from half that height ...
xxmaticxx 1 year ago
@xxmaticx
No it's you who should shut up. And those ends in machine are made of metal like rest of the test box.
miksuh 1 year ago
this is basically a scientific experiment, reason why they use the box is to ensure the variables are controlled, the amount of spinning is the measure variable and 2 n8 to keep variable same, ensuring the best available test. Although i hav to agree, it'll be more accurate to drop it off the ground
killerofbleach 1 year ago 2
Drop it down on a solid floor from a height that of normal height man's pocket.

SLIDING TEST YEAH
StreetBall89 1 year ago
Those of you who whine that the test is not accurate or they want to see what will happen if you drop a phone on concrete are are bunch of morons. This is a standardized test , almost all companies perform similar or maybe worse tests, this is nothing new

should be Nokia N8 in sliding test

AND Then thumbs down the incorrect comments.

is this really what you spend your money on? why dont you just drop the damn phone like your customers actually would??
browns1080 1 year ago
Nokia softwares doesn't need few drops to be screwed up. It needs NOTHING to be screwed up.
DrUAE1 1 year ago
This video isn't for fan boy idiots that have their heads stuck up far into the respective companies ass. Its for people that actually care about quality and want to know how they stress test, irregardless what brand it is.
And you would see that it indeed drops the phone and not slides it since there is a small curve at each end so it drops the phone when the box is straight up...

My husbands nokia 5800 fall of his coat pocket while he was going 62 mph on his motorbike and the god damned phone survived :) only with it's some scratches. Couldn't be more lucky LOL
sabena206 1 year ago
This is stupid, I bet after 5 drops on the concrete the screen will shatter. Why not do a real test. What kind of stupid test is this? The phone was just sliding down the side of the wall.....Any phone can withstand that.
818silencer818 1 year ago
@818silencer818 It Will Take Much More Than 5 Drops To Shatter Gorilla Rapped In A Aluminum Shell.

I think Apple assumes you will keep the iPhone in 5cm thick bubble wrap. These guys at least did something to test it's durability.
