To my fellow Minnesotans: have your sirens been tested at all this year? Not once, in 2011, have I heard any of the 2001's fire-up one the first Wednesday of the month at 1PM.
I live in Chaska. I hate the Allertor's. I live just on the NW corner of downtown and on my deck not even a mile away I can barely hear the one behind Von Hanson's.
Here in MN, they're used for tornado warnings, although many were installed during the Cold War and WOULD'VE been used for nuclear war. Doesn't CA have any sort of imminent danger/alert system? I know you've had a tornado or two hit your state every now and then.
Forgive me for asking such a stupid question but what exactly are these sirens used for? (California resident here.) Tornado warnings? Nuclear warnings? Cause they sound ominous.
I have seen Allertor videos on here before and I have not ever seen one run this well. I bet if this siren were to have the motor changed out for battery backup it would be a great siren to have. Its not the thunderbolt but when I live in Bolivar, MO they had 8 of these. The sound coverage is amazing!!! This siren wound up so fast to.
monthly tests? sounds kinda like the boy who cried wolf. what if there really IS danger coming, but pple are like F it, its just a regular test. then they are screwed.
@DasMidnightDrifter, the majority of the allertors spin counter-clockqise because of it''s potential output. Credit goes to Murrfarms for that knowledge.
No.. they use the same port ratio. The Allertor shares the same assembly as a dual-tone P-10 but there were some that had a 15hp motor.. just like the P-15.
They can rotate clockwise. The one in Bloomington Minnesota goes clockwise. And so does the red one in Eden Prarie. The one in Madison goes clockwise as well. View these movies, and you'll see.
I like allertors that are bright yellow like this one. A lot of them are this color, but there seems to be other new interesting colors out there now. This siren has a great ending.
Awesome siren!! I wish we had those where I live, even though they're already out of production now.
In my area, we have four ACA P-15 Penetrator, built back in the mid-1980s, but our sirens here are nowhere near as loud as the one in this video. The foilage somehow dampens the sound during their weekly test runs, and I usually have to open my front door to hear my neighborhood unit.
No it's still an allertor 125. They went to a 15 horsepower motor because ACA switched motor manufacturers, and it took a 15hp Baldor to run what the old 10hp Doer did.
Must have the 15 Hp motor instead of the 10 Hp.

For whatever reason, the Allertor sirens sound the scariest to me. Almost like they're angry.

I think these sound particularly wicked in Attack Mode.

what was the goofy top part for?

KSE828 2 years ago
Actually, i read that wrong, the top part actually makes the sound, and the bottom part is the air intake.
KSE828 2 years ago
Air intake? How old is the allertor?
SuperWeaves 2 years ago
No idea, but all allertors are designed that way. At least, all that i've seen.
KSE828 2 years ago
They were produced from 68' to 80' so all are nearly 3 decades old at the least.
sickVoDKa 2 years ago
@sickVoDKa used for the cold war?
SuperWeaves 2 years ago
I am not sure. Possibly. Vietnam was a bigger foreign issue in the late 60s though.

This is one distinctive-looking and sounding siren! There's no mistaking that for anything but an Allertor!
seawind0721 2 years ago
It is distinctive, but some P-10s and P-15s sound like this too.
TspesVladD 2 years ago
Or any other ACA siren. They use the same chopper motor.
twotailedavenger 2 years ago
The hollar sounds like this too.

I wonder if these things can be set to rotate clockwise or if they can only be rotated around counter-clockwise...
bytor55110 2 years ago

I guess I have seen all of those videos of the sirens mentioned above, and you are right. I just didn't see that. Thanks.
bytor55110 2 years ago
They are supposed to rotate counterclockwise, since ACA sirens use directional rotors and stators.
Blue10AEMia 2 years ago
not very often you hear them in a high pitched

That Allertor reminds me of Hamilton County, Ohio's only one in Springdale, except Hamilton County's has a broken rotator.
carexpertandy 3 years ago 4
That sounds like the SD-10
