I love Caballe but she just doesn't really fit when comes to singing this piece. Her vocals are too strong; Bartoli is the absolute best in this aria.
IMHO, no one sings this like her, she was just born for this, she has full control over her voice, the pianos and fortes, the vibrato, dynamics, especially crescendos perfect speed, calm (the way it should be), what can I say more... te amo? te adoro? eres perfecta? :-)
This video is on my favorites list....I can never tire of hearing Cabelle's voice--the voice of an angel. And when the fighter jets go overhead, her charm and wit comes through to delight her small audience!
Saludos.
I find the tempo to be too slow, however I can understand why she chose it. Her rendition is beautiful, and I love her control. However I just feel that the music would flow better with a faster tempo. :)
@LaDivinaAriell: the sheet music says "largo" and that can be interpreted two ways with this (bel canto; the best part is left out of most of these renditions) aria.
I find the slower version more touching, but the faster version is more of a "mad scene" which I also like (and especially like to play/sing).
It's actually one of the worst. I'll suffer through all of Bartoli's glotal attacks and rediculously heavy/overwhelming vibrato over this.
But props to her for at least trying to sing the grace notes.
I hate these slow renditions. They make it sound like a love song. Vivica Genaux is the only person who really does this aria justice, from an HIP perspective.
There's a better-fidelity version of Caballe singing this, also on youtube, that doesn't sound like an ancient, scratchy 78-rpm record.

Agree! She's so good Caballe, but the best in that aria is Cecilia BARTOLI. only with her I'm crying all the time...

Thank you for posting this song with her. What does she say after she and the piano player were interrupted?

i love |Caballé, but Cecilia is the best singer ever to sing arias like this.

This must be from the 1960s, since it's in black and white. (?) Hearing Cabelle sing is always a huge treat:)

very funny when she stopped singing by the jet plane. Good expression though.

It is a love song. She complaints because she has been rejected by her husband and, evidently, she loves him.
