I think there are two types of crying, both of them can be cause by either a happy or a sad feeling. First there is the normal "superficial" crying like when you fall and it hurts or when people surprise you with something very special. Then there is another type of crying, one thats slightly more "deep" and that is when you realize something. For instance if someone you love dies, then first you would cry because you lost that someone, but then you would also cry realizing the truth of death...
well, in a way I think you are right, dividing the REASONS for crying into two groups: emotional and physical. And yet, now, after almost a year since I posted the video, I have to change the question completely: not why do we cry? since that is maybe individual and DNA related but how does it feel when you cry? describe the FEELING. And here I think the problem is more complex, because you can't really describe feelings. But try, it does bring a couple of minutes of interest to life.
What about self-pitying? And, I can think of numerous reasons why we cry, yet I asked if someone could describe the feeling- not the cause. I mean, there are so many things that can cause crying, but the feeling that all those situations arise is the same. What is taht feeling?
well, it is not a character, it's something that the character wants. and I thought more about someone who is depressed by society, and so he is not really part of it. but hey, I'll think of that :)
:) first of all, there is a next question- about the play. Second of all, What is sad or happy? Why would we cry when we are happy? And what about depression? We are sad, yet real depressed people don't cry, or at least not all the time. I think that the answer is too simplistic, or at least try to define sad or happy.
