  • @Skillsss123 I agree with on today's rap compared to the past, but you have to dig a little deeper than mid 90's to find the rap you're talking about. If you like Talib check out eric b and Rakim or Afrika Bambata, common, KRS-1 etc. Jay-z is a second hand biggie and no would be nowhere without him, tupac, nas, public enemy, nwa, run Dmc. None of these guys can match the genius of one of the greatest musicians ever, Neil Young. + 2 for being canadian cause 90% of their music is shit.

  • Music from this era (60-80's) is always better. Popular culture can eat my ass.

  • fuck your opinions on music

  • real rock & roll!!!!

  • CALI ROCKS AS MUCH AS THIS SONG

  • fuck californication

this song is miles ahead of that shit

  • Unbelievable some thicko adds Biebers better, he will be forgotten in a few years, little twerp. This album is pure gold and timeless unlike so much that is churned out in the charts. Music to make memories to.

  • This song came out way before I was born i'm 14 and I hate the music that is coming out now a days, there are some nice bands such as matchbox20, three days grace, and breaking Benjamin. Rap is just a joke someone took to far right? I like to think so....

  • @ElCamino68ss Rap before your time was poetry to a beat. Mainstream rap now is beyond terrible. It glorifies stupidity in a facepalm kind of way. Check out intelligent rappers like Talib Kweli or Jay-Z for some respite

  • The PERFECT song to play on Sons of Anarchy!

  • such a good song for an ending part in a skate video

  • without the music the lyrics would never be forgotten, with Neil and the music-priceless!

  • He wrote the song so he wouldn't spend the rest of his days thinking about sending the overseer packing w/no money or marketable skills.

  • The ol man wasn't thrilled to be homeless, I don't believe he and Neil hit it off. Anybody believe Neil signed over the royalties because he felt bad about displacing the caretaker. As the story goes the ol' man said something to the effect....I've got no place to go and you've written me a song, thanks for nothing. He evidently didn't have a clue

  • 7colored im sorry for your loss. hope he was a good guy

  • my dad told me bout this song i like his accuracy

  • i am 4 years old and FTW.

  • I could listen to this song...only this song and no other music for the rest of my life and never get sick of it.

  • Ahh, so this is what music is. -16 year old.

  • @GarrettWilkins951 Well yeah, could you please tell your generation to stop giving us all the shit that we ear on the radio those day, thanks you very much.

  • @GarrettWilkins951

    like anyone gives a shit

  • @NativeTurkeyTV some of us do so go away and find someone else to annoy.. good music that YOU wouldnt understand cas your too THICK

  • reminds me FAIRY TALES , ELVES & MAGICANS - the elvish zodiac signs written by PETRA MARIA SCHEID on sale at amazon - kinda magic this song

  • My father was introduced me to a lot of old classic rock songs he likes, and I'm sad to say that he never really liked this one. I love it, though. One of my favorites. I'm fourteen and I love a song that nobody else I know does too..

  • Nobody i know died "/ but i still love this song <3

  • This song just makes me feel like crying everytime that I listen to it. So powerful.

  • If i hear this song, tears will come again and again.......since more than 40 years!

now i`m self an old man.....and it`s oK.

  • I was19 when I got this album, had seen him in concert with Crosby, Stills. and Nash.

Been crazy about this man since 15 years old. I love this song. Thank You!

  • This song reminds me so much of my brother who at that time was a, 'hippie', with great , 'hippie' friends, but thanks to the 'vietnam conflict', put an end to all of the 'piece, and love' days! Hippies weren't the problem at that time- it was our own GOVERNMENT!!!!!!!

The songs of the day then were 'all' about love- love with our fellow man, red, yellow, black, and white, but our govt. put an end to all of that! Vietnam is proof of that!!!

  • @scorpio09192909 Your government is now 10 time worst than it was back then, maybe you guys should get your shit back together again.

  • @jonharson what's ur point?...and what does it to do with this music?

  • South River class of 75.....

  • you know im 14..and i love this kind of music i don't think this kind of music will ever be forgotten.

  • The version on Californication was sung by Jesse McCarthy. Not a bad cover.

  • I HAVE TO AGREE WITH YOU (CAMHAWESMUSIC011) WE WILL NEVER HEAR MUSIC LIKE THIS EVER AGAIN, THIS MUSIC TODAY WILL NEVER BE REMEMBERED 40YRS FROM NOW, THEY JUST DONT KNOW WHAT MUSIC IS,AND "WAS" WILL NEVER BE THE SAME.

  • those 55 people who disliked this song take 55 weiners in the ass not lets get 55 likes for this comment.. hell yeah im high brother

  • Californication ROCKS !

  • THUMBS UP IF YOU ARE HERE BECAUSE OF CALIFORNICATION!

  • @lindo4010 nah bro, im here for NEIL YOUNG!!

  • @lindo4010 thumbs up if your a dickeater

  • @twistedxxmindxx55 hahahah

  • thumbs up if californication brought you here

  • Old man, look at my life. 24 and so much more...

I was a teenager when this was a radio hit. I'm 57 now, and the song is more meaningful than ever. I'm still that young 24 year old man, deep down, still rebelling on many levels. Rebelling against authority and the "older generation", even though I'm old myself.:)

  • @lancetop Not old man. You could have another 40 or 50 years. Enjoy them.

  • @lancetop -amen my friend, turning 50 and understand!

  • XFM anyone?

  • i use to own a ranch but then i took an arrow in the knee

  • @SLEG1100 LOL what a nerd, shut up faggot.

  • lets go backk to the old shit man play some dis shit on my 15inch subs cruzin threw cvill

  • what a great track.

  • fuck, i love this song.

  • all of you just shut up and listen to neil!

  • @snowboard4life131 arnt you just a little pocket of joy?

  • Quite a few comments about father & son's not seeing eye to eye. Why not make the best and try to repair the friendship? Great song

  • actully it was a ranch in cali and he bought it from 2 lawyers and they had a care taker living on the ranch and this song was for him

  • This song is amazing

  • This song comes full circle in a relationship between father and son. As the son gets older, he's becoming the Old Man. I never get tired of listening to this song.

  • @charcoalartist52 not what its about at all actually, but i suppose it can be portrayed that way

  • i havent done sex a really long time

  • My grandpa is on his deathbed... He raised me... I turn 24 in a week... creepy relevant...

  • @DestinyVonGrave i'm so sorry to hear that. Spend as much as time went him as you can so he can die happy and accept death easier. My grandpa is also very weak nearing his end. his heart is like a ford t150 trucks engine running on fumes...

  • Love this song, what other songs that have this same laid back style sound ?

  • I am fast becoming... "an old man"............

  • @ozzyman1203 yeah im 26 with a 10 year old kid ....and try to reach my father ......im so alike as my father

  • It's incredible really, to think this song was written & recorded over 40 years ago and it's sound and words are still more relevent and influential than anything recently, or really most things since.

That's why Neil Young is such a legend. He realizes that a true work of art spans through generations and generations of people, and he has never shamed himself in being anything but himself to make his name seem "current" today.

As his music ages, it becomes better, like all fine things.

  • @CamHawesMusic011 That's what makes a good song, timelessness.

  • @CamHawesMusic011 Very well spoken!

  • @CamHawesMusic011 I guess that makes us old. love this song with all my heart and soul., Hopefully we all get better and wiser with age as well.

  • @CamHawesMusic011 Bieber's better

  • my uncle died two months ago and he loved to play this song on his guitar. R.I.P. David

  • @7colored This is a Damn good song for some one to be remembered to..

  • @7colored i'm sorry for your loss.. he now knows what happens after life on earth. i'm not gonna say heaven or as atheist say "cease to exist".. he's some where in the universe or some place or thing bigger then that. Humans are unique.

  • @7colored im sorry to hear that

  • @7colored God Bless you.my husband died 5-22-09.8 of our grandkids called him old man.Two call him grandpa.Awesome song..I am sorry for your loss.Have a great one..

  • Nothing can bring me up when I'm so down, except for this song here.

  • amazing song!

  • best song evvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrr;)

  • My father in law passed 4 days ago. Doug and I were alike in some ways and I'll surely miss him! I grew up without my pop, he passed away when I was 6. My son and I are best friends and will always be!!!

  • I am now 57 years old. Its kind of weird to listen this song now that I'm older, but the song still rings true to me. I'm just sitting in the other chair. I still love Neil's music.

  • Bababooey Bababooey

  • Listened to this song the night my dad passed away, while watching the movie Due Date. The irony between the movie & the events that just happened with my father was unbelieveable.. RIP daddy. 09.29.58-03.03.11 I love you with all my heart & ill never forget all the things you taught me in the 17 years i got to spend with you. </3

  • @JuicyJuggalette2 Very sorry about your dad. That seriously sucks. RIP

  • I love this song because I always called my father "old man" & he's been passed away since December of 2000. This song reminds me of my old man & I loved him with all of my heart & I still do & I miss him SO VERY MUCH TO THIS DAY that there are just NO WORDS to elaborate on EXACTLY how I feel. I love this song, but it like I said before it reminds me of my father & sometimes I cry when I hear this song.

  • Always dug this Neil Young classic, from way back.

  • i luv dis song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the red light kings made a versions and its almost just like it...

  • i would let my dad listen to this but he's not around to give a fuck, sad but true.

  • you know, as far as "likes or dislikes" i won't go to the trouble of putting out a dis like if the music i'm "rating" does really show some talent, musicianship. talent should be a universal understanding. every song that was as a gargantuan a hit as this one, don't always turn me on, but i'll probably hold off the dislikes out of respect. BUT, face it, the buttheads that feel it they're duty to rate always had a place in shaping future outlooks too. : )

  • This song is probably my favorite Neil Young song. I love "There's a world" too. I always wanted to be different from my Dad too. The older I got, the more I realized that I am a lot like him.

  • All my life i wanted to be different from my father, now i'm 32 with 2 beautiful son, working as a police officer. Exactly like dad.

  • this song is soooo great! i listen to it all the timee.

  • a great song if ur fuckin down as fuck

  • lords of dogtown brought me here :)

  • heaven called, they want their song back.

  • Hey budster...you are one of those idiots...

  • DUE DATE

  • this song is so friggen deep , it makes me sad ,

  • Hi i´m Jakob and i´m lonely today.

  • Lords of Dog Town<3

  • He wrote the song after the man who owned the ranch in Canada Neil bought when he first started to come into money. Somewhere in the transaction Neil and the famer took a ride to the property's end talking. The farmer didn't understand how someone that was as young or looked like Neil could have to money or interest buying a Ranch. When asked, Neil replied "just lucky, i guess."

  • @SillySkirts Nice story.... thanks for sharing ;)

  • @SillySkirts the ranch was in california

  • @SillySkirts That ranch was and still is in cali.

  • @SillySkirts im pretty sure the ranch was in california

  • @monstermash2011 first of all im onyl 15 and when i was listening to this a couple months ago and it said that it was on that website in the description

  • @monstermash2011 douche. he was exclaiming his disbelief at how someone could have this song on a site called gaynerds or the fact that there is a site called gay nerds

  • I'd like to sing this to my granpa Joaquim. Rest In Peace, Juca. I'll always love you and you are my role model.

  • That fucking Ad started playing half way through!

  • It is a beautiful song! Its actually not about his dad though. Its about a old man he bought his country ranch from. The man and his wife made such an impression on him that he decided to write a song about them. I am planning on singing it at my fathers funeral though. Its a great dad song.

  • i fuckin hate the relationship my father and i have :'(

  • @dapo3tic you aint alone :/

  • @dapo3tic This song has nothing to do with Neil Young's dad. He was inspired Old Ranch Owner...

  • @yesiamawizardjonny .... no one said it did ....but when i hear it it reminds me of what iam talking about ..

  • ahhh lesson to be learned

  • @BaronCleaver goood song when u remember the father u cant remember

  • Had a alcoholic friend who used to play this song constantly when was drunk. His dad was also a drunk and had left him when he was little. He would always sing the line "Old Man take a look at my life, I'm a lot like you' and then take another sip of booze. He drank himself to death at age 30 after living under a bridge. Found his body in a ditch with no ID. TV news reported his death as a nameless vagrant. Took a couple of days before family could be notified. Let that be a warning kids.

  • always makes me think cause i never met my dad and this s the first song my step father heard when his father passed away

    And he loves you too.

  • i love neil young -old man (harvest) gijoe989.

  • crematory- sorry

  • at least you got to see him after an undertaker made him presentable. i had the intense displeasure of seeing my father in a cooler at a neptune society creamatory. i will spare everyone the details, i very much regret going there and i'll never get the memory out of my mind. i already saw my dad shortly after he passed, why the hell did i have to go there??
