"I'm not a Trekkie" and "I loved it" were a common combination of statements for people who really liked this movie. I'll just say that I found it less bad than Nemesis.
you do have to know absolutely nothing about star trek to have liked it. if you know or cared anything about star trek you would realize how hard core Abrams whored out a wonderful franchise for michael bay like moive that meant absolutely nothing except to rape the goodness from every star trek fans mind for a profit and to create thousands of new mindless trek fans who will mindlessly line up for mindless effects.
@fuji9991 I'm a fan of star trek classic. I love the original characters (kirk, spock, scotty, bones). I dislike the rest of the crews. Well, I liked this new movie. It HAD o be different. It couldn't have been the same old sh*t. I think it was new and refreshing, while keeping the spirit of the original character. Is a lot more fast-paced, but the characters are younger, so it fits. The missing theme is exploration of the unknown, but this episode was just a presentation of the new characters.
@Justletmewrite I get what you are saying but if they are going to deviate from star trek ideals that much then why not create a new franchise all together? Imagine you liked peanut butter and jelly all your life then someone makes a humus and jelly sandwich and markets it as peanut butter and jelly, and then nationwide you hear how great peanut butter and jelly is. And your like its not peanut butter dude!!!! LOL
@fuji9991 For me the good part of the Kirk series was the very good characters and the alchemy between them, and I think that this new series succeeded to capture that in a new sauce. But i know what you feel.

that roadblock was a metaphor for the entire film.
