1979-81 ZX's where slow since they where going for luxury markets then racing applications, 82-83 where the best of the 280ZX lines which made them tough competition for the Porsche Wagon 911 Turbo which was the "icon of fast imports" of the 1980s since their winnings of the 70s. Belive it or not Paul Nuemen raced these in the IMSA GTO races with Bob Sharp. Mine does 0-60 in 9.2 seconds according to my Rally and GPS timer.
@CLAUDIOZ06 in fact the only cars to actually beat the 280 in its own class was a porche 911 and a BMW. it did 0 to 60 in 7.9 with the borg warner 5 speed which was faster than alot of ferraris and aston martins. better acceleration than ferraris and aston martins at a 10th of the price
I got a 1979 Nissan Datsun 280ZX , 1 thing for sure I wont sell nor trade it to any other cars even the latest cars, because for me a classic car is much more apple of the eye than the new one specially when its well maintained or customized.

nope i wasn't and that is not really that fast anyway... i am getting my RX7 bridge ported and rebuilt, racing bearings .005 more clearance with a high flow oil pump, Aluminum flywheel, center force clutch kit, holley intake manifold with double pumper 650cfm carb, racing beat headers, no A/C, no P/S, no pulley driven fan (elect fans).....NO TURBO but it will be fast and I WILL POST A NICE VIDEO AS SOON AS I GET IT DONE (around march)

Meh...back then most speedos were built up to 85. Nobody had a reason to go any faster. Doesn't mean it won't go past 85, that's just what they made the speedo up to.
another thing they can easy go above the 110mph stock without a turbo, and if you drive 79 to 81, there are the slow years, meaning, lots of room for tweaking heads and block. and please for your motor! don't spin stock motor b4 red zone just cuz it can go, it doesn't mean its the peek power that in the 5000 range. 96-98 mustangs are ok, but no one cares what you have to say dude, we love are Z-cars and no matter how much you say they suck we will always own them, race them and whatever else we can think of to do with a L28 block they are known for having a extremely strong engine block that is a stable plat form for modifying. But I can say this with confidence, MY CAR WONT BREAK DOWN! Fords suck!
These cars can't run in 6, or 9 in quarters! unless they are heavy modified, plus they can get to 0-60mph around 8-9 seconds without a turbo you just got to know how to drive;), Yeah that's right I'm talking about using the E Brake as a trans brake to load the suppression
for a (i guess)stock l28,he wasnt shifting to early at all, id be a little scared to rev my l28 past 5000, but i have never took it higher than that because thats as far as i thought it would go, being around 25 years old and all

Its funny how my Jeep 91 Jeep Cherokee is at least 1 second faster 0-60, and only about 15 miles shy of the top speed this car has.

i have an 82 280zx turbo and it definitely does not run 10 sec quarters lol. stock they run 15.4
quarter times on 6psi.
