i really feel for the workers, but i can never feel good about buying anything chinese knowing that they are so often exploited by our shitty american companies
Thats really sad. Zhongguoren barely get paid 50 cents an hour, and they have high rent for their low salaries... Some of these people have to work 3 or 4 jobs to barely make it through the month. Some never realize what its like to own a car or a house. These people are fighting for essentially what we could find on the street here in the USA. I'm sure that has everything to do with them being Communist right? Go back to watching Glen Beck you morons..
@scottieman2 The Chinese do not collect unemployment and because of their government, they have few assets. The two situations are entirely unrelated. Might I add that we as Americans own those companies in China. We are the ones who order from them. We pay for cheap material. We did it to ourselves so I am not about to blame anyone for the USA's own mistakes. Logic over ridiculous categorizations and stereotypes.
Some people get paid by the Communist Party of China to post comments on youtube. you can easily tell by their comments pull other countries(especially the US) into their contention.
good on ya, your bosses are filthy rich and dont give a crap about human rights..Chinese work so hard to get ou of poverty, but when they get there they shit on their own
@Bigjohnnywad stop crying little brainwashed racist. little wonder the country is fucked and divided. you helped the downfall of you country with your lack of enlightment. thanks.
@markinu and it's also good that they are demanding their rights, it's part of a democratisation process, that would not exist if they did not have jobs in the first place however low the wage may seem to us.
even over time, not many factory will have their workers work over 16 hours...and many factories give their workers the choice to choose for over time or not...
Most Chinese factory workers are women ages 18-35, and some of them are even teenage girls. Living in the Chinese factory dormitories is an endurance.
I don't disagree, but a pure protectionist stance has many disadvantages as well. A balance between the two, if it could be fairly maintained by both trading parties, would be ideal in my opinion.
Unfortunately, many of the problems in the United States stem from two root changes, both of which began to take hold in the 1950's: Decentralization of Population (Sprawl) and Loss of Heavy Industry overseas. Both of these problems are not easy to fix and could take many decades to reverse.
name the disadvanatges of being protectionist. All the economies that are very protectionist are booming right now - India, China, Japan.
The big change was in 1998, not 1950s. Globalization and mass guest worker invasions began in 1998 when the visa levels were raised by the millions. Funny how the economy was booming before that.

@Smific Same here. While they get paid 50 cents an hour us Americans loose our jobs and get paid nothing.

In America, Republicans = communism. No unions, no worker's rights, no collective bargaining, CEO's get richer on the backs of slave labor wages.

Wages in China are going up. As unemployment goes down, and investment goes up, wages are bid up as well.

The Chinese factory workers are markedly underpaid and work 16 hours a day. Their bodies constantly drip with sweat.

16 hours a day is actually a false statement...

TRADE IMBALANCES. Globalization, offshoring of U.S. jobs. Mass invasion of USA by guest workers.
USA is running a trade DEFICIT with almost every country in the world. That is SUCKING THE WEALTH out of the U.S.A.
Does the world really expect U.S. consumers to buy their products when Americans' jobs have been taken away from them?
It seems 'globalization' (communism) isn't so good for the world economy after all!
