  • well done pal spot on. you have great taste in who songs.:))

  • @modsheff1 Thanks very much for the comments!

  • hi. do you have a tab for this song?

  • @josteinpaullein there is a tab if you google "who tabs" it won't let me post the address for some reason. I did change a few bits of the tab though

  • Just beautiful!....Lost Who classic, one of my favorites...Townshend wanted to do this with Paul Weller at the Royal Albert Hall gig in 2000,but Weller said "too complicated"!

  • This song is a neglected treasure and you do a magnificent job both playing and singing. Congratulations. I'd pay to see you.

  • @Sputnik57 Thanks very much! If only more people would pay to see me I could make a nice living ;)

  • Beautiful, just BEAUTIFUL!!! This is my absolute favorite Pete Townshend song and you do a most beautiful job of it! Mastering the chords of this song is one of my life's desires. You have done this and I applaud you!

  • @singinjohnny Thank you very much, means a lot to me! It's great that you love such an obscure Pete Townshend song, not that many people know this one. Cheers once again :)

  • I just love your voice! you are really good! :)) <3

  • @MarrasBiti Thanks very much!!

  • Thank you very much!

  • Awesome playing, Dan! I love your version of this song, which is one of my favorite Who songs. I think you did a lot better than you think on it and I think Pete would be proud.

    Christy

  • thanks Christy!

  • YJM, I'm with you. That is one of my fave, if not my fave, Who album, though it's hard to pick. I never get tired of listening to it!

    Christy

  • very impressive. i've recently just started to try and pick this song up on my 12 string... not easy!

  • YES! I have to give you alot of credit for doing some of these difficult songs.....keep playing

  • very admirable. good job...(the deluxe edition of sell out hasn't been released here in the states yet, cant wait.)

  • Thanks very much. I think I heard it's released in the States on the 19th May. It's listed on amazon.

  • Nice mate

Ive been listening to nothing else than the new The Who Sell Out deluxe edition 2cd for the past day or so!

  • yeah it's a nice CD set, some interesting bonus tracks on there. Just in case you don't know there's a couple of bonus tracks hidden at the end of the last song on disc 2 - the isolated backwards parts for Armenia City In The Sky and the Great Shakes Jingle.

  • LOVE IT!!! Good!!!

  • Superb, dude!

Made me cry, remembering her smile.

  • Good going!

  • nice job.

  • Great talent you have! I enjoyed it very much! The reverb gave the song a mystical surreal feel. Keep it up!

  • fine work on hard song

  • Great Job Young Feller.

    Thanks

    Jack

  • Very,very good!!!

Wish I could give you more than 5!!

  • Thanks Cherri

    Jack

  • You're the best, man! "Sunrise" is one of those underrated songs that should be concert favorites. I also love your voice, original and sensitive as it is. I would aslo like to hear any material of your own.

  • thanks a lot. I have one song of my own up on here, a video of me playing live at an acoustic event. Not a great recording of it, it's called "Turn Out This way" might upload more vids of my own stuff.

  • You did a great job on this song. I love this Who song.

  • Being such a huge Who fan, I was absolutely gobsmacked at how accurately you portrayed the original beauty straight off of "Sell Out". This is such a gorgeous song and unbelievably difficult to play, you really channeled Mr. Townsend. Shine on you crazy diamond, and if you ever put out a record, I will be first in line to purchase it! You portray what music is about, you seem like a deep soul and your artistic expression is unmatched. It's musicians like you that bring my faith in music back.

  • Wow, thankyou very much! It makes me want to dedicate more time to music so I feel I really deserve comments like that. I used to practice a lot more, I probably would be a lot better if I'd kept it up.

But thanks that's a really nice comment, sometimes I totally give up on the idea of myself as a musician and songwriter but it's the great feedback from people that sometimes keeps you going :-)

  • Well done! -One of my favorite Townsend songs. I can't even imagine the chords you're playing. did you research this , find a songbook, figure it out by yourself - what?

  • there's a site called whotabs got some chords from there but I changed a few bits. Pete played it on a 12 string so it's hard to get the same sound.

  • this like the onley song pete does that has all differant chords in....i think he sadi he read a chord book..... at the time petes my hero........ this is a not often done song and you defanatly did it justice

  • it was the 3rd album "The Who Sell Out" great record.

  • great playing, and by the by...you look a bit like a young pete townshend =)

  • thanks, I often get told I look like Pete, which pleases me :)

  • hehe, it really should =)

  • Thank you for sharing. One of my favs from the WHO. Good voice I would like to see someone like you on Greatest American Idol singing this. Have you ever thought of trying out?

    Regards,

    Jim

  • thanks for the compliment dude, but I'm no singer really. Plus those shows are all about a certain type of artist if you know what I mean..

But you're comments are fantastic, worth more than a tv show. thanks very much

    Dan.

  • Real good job!

Great cover of a wonderful song..

  • Nice. I pitched the idea of doing a video of the entire SELL OUT, a while back. Even Pete's brothers are too old to play him, as he was in the sixties, these days. Are you in New York?

  • no I'm in London, England

  • amazing!!

  • ya i think of myself as a pretty good guitarist but this song is killing me... idk if im on the wrong tab or what but this is a really really hard song

  • it has got some obscure chords but I think a lot of them are basically the same shapes but moved up and down the neck, it's just sometimes hard to remember which chord to go to. Wish I could play it like Pete though.

Has anyone seen Paul Weller trying to work this out as a duet with Pete for the RAH 2000 Who gig? It's on the DVD as a bonus, it was too hard in the end!

  • genious song by townsend, so underrated

  • The hardest part for me (with ANY song) is the singing-and-playing-at-the-same-time part. I guess that just takes practice, eh? Yours sounds perfect! Such a clean picking style too. I can't get enough of it!!

  • Make and model of your guitar please? It has a lovely, brilliant and warm sound.

This video was shot the day after you learned it? Wow! I'm trying to get past the intro myself. You're AWESOME. Great singing too. I like your voice.

Now, as for the song -- I can't put into words how much I adore it, so I'll leave it at that.

  • thanks L, my guitar is pretty cheap actually was £90 (around $180) it's a Honer "countryman" it's cheap but I recorded it and added some reverb, makes it sound better.

    But thanks for the comments!

  • It sounds FANTASTIC. So does your voice. Did you add reverb to that also? I'd meant to ask. I love the effect. Really fits the song... gives it that ethereal, lonely but beautiful effect. :-) You're amazing! I was practicing the song again today myself -- but still haven't got much past the intro. But I'm better!

  • yeah I added recerb to the whole thing. Keep working on the song, I usually learn stuff too fast and then never get it perfect, it's better to go slow.

  • Divine.

    - L (from LLR)

  • nah, Quad is the record followed by Who's Next

  • nope, Quad and Who's Next together (in fact everything Townshend has ever done combined) don't come even close to "Sell Out"

  • Sell Out is of course Townshends best record, other Who records are complete jokes in comparison...

  • Amazing!

  • not bad. playing a bit fast in places but a good effort. the song is criminally underrated

  • cheers mate, yeah the song is fantastic, people don't realise Pete wrote this sort of stuff. Very tricky and Pete plays it on a 12 string, I'd love to try that! Might do this again as this was recorded the day after I started to learn it so I was really trying to remember the next chord.
