I have a question... are there consolation brackets in the NCAA tournament? iv'e seen podium pictures with up to 8th place but it seems like these guys (like zadick) just left after they lost in the semis.
"And it seemed like everybody around me was rooting against him. Even after the match was over guys were celebrating and acting like jackals. And I had I all I could do to keep from attacking them."
@giantmetfan97 Really then why in the last 25 years have only 4 schools been the NCAA champs and the majority is Iowa. Minnesota, Okie State, Penn State and Iowa are the only top programs! We know wrestling like the south knows football!
Truely inspiring. These guys worked hard all season round. They got pissed when they were beat. They got pissed when they won but didn't do well in the match. They got pissed when their teammates lost. Only one quit. The rest stayed and fought. Those who stayed and did the little stuff like running on their own time at 6am or working out at 11pm. Those guys are the real champions in my book at least.
There is nothing like Iowa wrestling. Born and raised in Iowa and went to the U of Iowa and even though I did not wrestle, I am a huge fan. I now practice BJJ and watching this was very inspirational. Proud to be a Hawkeye!
@salao212 when you win the title what are you called? "THE CHAMPION." I dont believe in any of that "ohhhh, were all champions because we work hard" shutup...anybody can work hard, only few can be champions
I know how Mike Zadick feels. When I was in High School all I ever wanted was to win a State Championship. My senior year was my last shot. Going into the state tournament I was ranked 4th, but was upsetted my first match. Everything I've ever work for was crush within 6 mins.
@tsokevin its how it goes man :/ unfortunetly sometime shit doestnt work out the way you hope..... my senior year i was seated 1st to go to state.... tore my tendons week before the tournament...
The last image of Zadick in the dark shadow wrestling embodies everything I love about wrestling. But anyone who wasn't a wrestler wouldn't understand why that is.
@FrankoStanko Thats the most bullshit line I've ever heard of, if you actually believe that a champion is defined by a national title you are a shitty wrestler and a worse human being.
I'm sorry, but they way some of these guys respond to losing, is ridiculous. Wrestling, like very sport, is a GAME. It's not lif or death, and anyone who says it is needs to have their head examined. Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya; those are life and death!
@wittesco Your right its not life or death its hero or heartbreak. Stop bringing in military stuff, we get it theres those who have the courage to fight in the military and those who have determination to be a wrestler. Dont diss wrestling, its only the best.
@wittesco it may not be life or death but if youve ever wrestled you should wrestle likes its life or death. And these guys are sad when they lost because all that they ever worked for in their life wont happen. You've obviously never wrestled before
@morgall No that isn't enough for Iowa wrestling. Maybe some other programs, but not Iowa. And my point is the difference in Zalesky's and Brands' expectations and their intensity level.
The cinematography is terrible. At least 50% of images are blury. The constant motion of the camera makes the viewer seasick. I think they gave the camera to a drunk hobo. The exagerated lighting contrast makes it hard to tell the color of the opponents singlets. The background music is garbage. Overall very low quality. Is this anti-wrestling propaganda or was this really the best the producers could do?
@sebwingfield its called recording it off the tv from a camera shitbird appreciate that the man took his time to upload this for us to view unless you're stupid enough to not understand or comprehend shit from your eyes or ears that you seen from Part 1 through Part 7 cause obviously the rest of us were so stop complaining and go look elsewhere man its a classic and an inspiration to all who wrestle fuck off!

Notice the difference between Zalesky's and Brands' reaction to a losing season? That's why Zalesky couldn't hack it as the Head Coach of Iowa.
