I discovered this movie a couple of years ago and fell in love with the same scenes, mostly for their music. It's what confirmed me as a Dave Grusin fan. Thanks so much for posting this!
Winning is a great movie. I remember my parents taking me to see it at the movie theatre in 1969. I was 10 years old and after seeing this movie I became a big fan of auto racing. Paul Newman isne of my very favorite actors and his role as Frank Capua in Winning is one of his best. I love his black 1969 Thunderbird in this film.
"Winning" was always one of my favorite Paul Newman movies....I love the look and design of the Indy race cars back in those days (late 60´s)....they just looked awesome.
The music is awesome too......sometimes I use to hear it when I play the PC game Nascar. I love the scene in which Frank drives a few rounds on the racetrack in his Thunderbird....only just for fun.
Can't exactly say why but this movie has always stuck most in my mind for Newman movies. I know it wasn't his most acclaimed - maybe it's the fact that it has all the big ol cars of the sixties etc and it was a time of freedom and opportunity for everyone. It seems to have all of that (other Newman movie I really liked was "Sometimes a Good Notion". Realy brought home the importance of family).
Anyway, what city was Winning filmed in? That hotel and area looks so familiar.
@cretureberlin The best in USA.

**Does anyone know the name of the song Paul Newman is listening to when he takes his dragster on the street? when a car pulls up next to him...
Thanks to whoever can tell me the name of the song!

the Motel is the one that is at the Indianapolis Motor speedway and the Speedway scenes are at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Growing up in Indy this movie played on ABC the night before the race... I miss it

Underrated racing movie for grown ups. Good footage, and Richard Thomas' screen debut. Fine Grusin score.
