  • im white and i chose a wtf is wrong with americans

  • the fact that they're babbling gook speak at white people and expecting them to understand it is pretty strange imo and the way you ask a question like that will entirely determine the kind of answer you get via translator

also asian languages tend to be much more pragmatic and limited in their ability to express complex ideas and thoughts of about objects or groups of objects which definitely effects the way your brain perceives said objects

  • Docks sounds like a pole used for docking ships whereas for eastasians docks could sound like a name of a material in a western language

  • stem is straight - B, yeah it has a leaf (A has 3, B has 1), but all B stems are straight, all A stems are curved

  • Omg Im southamerican ...now what does that mean common this is a stupid video ......

  • @FeyRayen0 Why do you feel its a stupid video?

  • Notice how confident Westerners are in their answers?

I think that might be a huge sign of their culture, such undeserved confidence but still helps them achieve success

    Asians: "Uhh, A"

    Westerners: "Definitely B!!!"

  • @pieceofparadox Not really,if you look at the history as a whole, you would know westerners have no advantage over asians.asians have proved their remarkable capacity by making miracles one after another.western sucess is temporary,it wont take long for asians to catch up with westerners.

  • back in myyyyyy day, it was very much like a western......

  • this is interesting!

  • im asian and i chose each thingy that the asians chose! :D and i agree that my mom uses more verbs than nouns on me xD and in asia, more ppl think about how something will effect ummm....other things? if ppl died in an accident and our family was delayed or something, my mom would brush the deaths aside, complaining about the delays to the -insert person in charge- and emphasise on how this accident has affected them and stuff xD so heartless.im not like that though... well i think im not ;DD

  • @drummerxkun I think the difference with know or not knowing about the delay is the way the different cultures view relationships between the public. The West is much more individualistic which is why it would seem cold to them that the delay would even be mentioned while Asian cultures (at least to me looking at it as a Westerner) seem to be much more about the group as a whole. Neither is better or worse, they're just different.

  • @hop208 i agree ^^ ehhhh... gawd my english sucks xP took me forever. kinda. to understand that OAO lol jkjk ^^" sorry the spam D:

  • Haha I watched this on Korean Airlines and in this semester, where we have a subject of Cross-Cultural Communication, I just reminded that there's this video..

  • For people who don't understand, the A group of flowers are picked by people who are less legalistic and taxonomic.

Holistically, the flower fits better with group A. Taxonomically, the flower belongs to group B, which ALL have straight stems. Group A does not have a unifying characteristic aside from having curved stems.

This suggests that East Asians are not as concerned about legalism and taxonomy as Westerners. Hardly surprising.

  • @asw654

BTW, I'm not saying which is right or wrong. It just depends on what is more important to you, holistic similarity, or legalistic/taxonomic classifications.

  • If you picked the square in the 2nd one it means you are a racist because you can't see past colour.

  • Its really because the A group is more appeling to the human eye

  • The american woman said: "[...] for one american, when they look on the same picture their brain actually focus on individual objects [...]". As the americans were all the same, they're are differents types of caucasians in the States, amerindians, blacks, and even Asians from differents parts of Asia. So, in my opinion this is just a racist stupid video! This cultural, the way of learning in Asia is different from us, why don't they try with an american of asian background, they'll be surprised

  • I'm from another planet and I picked B, what does this mean? AHAHAH

Actually, the answers are based on the culture and not the human race!!!

  • Oh I get it.

    A = Conformity

    B = Individuality

    I pick B then! I'm Asian btw.

  • @AdvanXer same man

  • I picked A at first, but now I think B is more correct because all of the A flowers have long curved stems and all of the B flowers have short straight stems. The flower in question has a short straight stem so it definitely belongs to B.

  • I'm a S.Korean and i picked B

  • To Asian "material", "origin" is important thus to them their home, family & nation is important. while whites don't care about material, origin. This was why West was able to break the rules of thumb. Both Asian & Whites have pros & cons. However in long run, Asian is right.

  • @watsupzzful In the long run, Asian cannot provide clean water for around 1 billion people. you shoudl reconsider.

  • I'm portuguese/south african and I chose A.

  • I'm French Canadian and I chose A in the first question because that group held more similarities in a quick count then the B group did. As for the second question I chose Shape over material... My reasoning... Take a wooden cross for example. Is a wooden upper case "T" more like the wooden cross or is a plastic blue cross more like it. I think that an object's shape holds more importance to it's identity than it's actual material or color.

  • It isn't east vs west. It is east vs English empire. Latin tribes in the west are quite different from English or germanic tribes. Latin tribes thinks similar to eastern people. Latin tribes has large family and consider family most important also.

  • Interesting experiments, poorly explained and edited. For the first one, I'm not so sure about the "meaningful" difference. The second one, very obvious. Westerners answered shape is more important than color. They "interpreted" the question as prioritizing two competing characteristics to group different objects. Asians grouped objects neither by color nor by shape, but by material or substance. The blue one was plastic. Others were wood. Both people very consistent. There is difference.

  • From the next clip, the happy face one was very consistent too. The Japanese explanation is confusing. Asians consistently said he is NOT happy at all (or can't or even shouldn't be) because other people are not happy. I totally understand (feel that way) and agree with that. Can't explain why. I suspect the next babana one, not "meaningfully" different. What really makes me wondering is this: What makes this difference? What could be its implication? I guess it needs more thoughts. Any idea?

  • I did the flower and monkey tests at work, where I work with a few half Asians and full Asians. Results were same. Asians picked the group and a few half Asians picked the solitary. Those ones had more Western features and aged more quickly, also had a non Asian diet. Heavy meat and veggies like broccoli. I hate broccoli. It overpowers all dishes. Even a look at Asian alcohol says alot. Asians drink more than most Europeans, save the Germans and those East of them.

  • A!!

  • It is definitely B

  • Lol I'm not Asian and I picked A

  • You know what, Im going to do this test myself, just to see if this survey is accurate, maybe Ill post the results...that will be fun

  • Funny how seattle has a picture of a starbucks in the background, can the city not escape its coffee beans????? hehe

  • That is all true. Asians and Westerners think differently. I like when he said: "the Greeks did not understand that". One of my all favourite videos! Many thanks!

  • I'm Korean raised up in Ireland.

I chose Group A, the blue tube. :)

It's more to do with culture I believe.....

I think this video is a valuable resource to shorten the gap between the two cultures and it shouldn't be used by racists to widen it!

  • @shurikenxhunterv2

That's racist you dumbass, you just tried to fix discrimination with more discription, you're like a retard on wheels. Dumb shit.

  • This is no more than a scientific theory.

The evidences gathered are all skewed towards their own opinion.

    Scholars are pathetic.

  • @kiwiiisland I disagree with you entirely. I am half Asian and Half-American and sided everytime with the Asian perception. I am completely accepted by all Asian people, yet Westerners find me odd and confusing and don't identify with me at all. Pure Asians they just accept as different, but with me they apply their perceptions to me because I have completely adapted to Western culture. I didn't grow up that way however, and I find them strange.

  • @chowmanfu I'm an Asian migrant to Australia - I have mixed results.

In your case, maybe it's because every time you look into the mirror what you see is an Asian with brown hairs (You must have had a brown or blue eyes - damn you.)

I absolutely believe that all healthy people are wired identically and there is no reason at all for you to seek confirmations through some highly subjective and lowly executed scientific process.

After all, who cares if you're an Asian or a Westerner?

  • @kiwiiisland White people and Yellow people care, and I say that in a highly subjective way. And they very much care if you're an Asian or a Westerner. The only place in the world that the Europeans didn't conquer was Asia, which began in the Philippines. Magellan was killed because Lapu Lapu understood him subjectively and realized his relationship to the Filipinos. No need to talk about the opium sales from Britain to China and gun sales to Japan.

  • @kiwiiisland And yes, I was born with blue eyes which changed to brown later, and black hair that changed to brown. Also born with thick Asian bones and stocky, yet with European muscle. Intelligence comes from both sides as well.

  • @chowmanfu oh well, whatever makes you happy. I guess there's a truth in what you're saying - otherwise, there'll be no such thing as wagyu beef.

Nevertheless - brain is a complex machine. Most people live and die without ever realizing their true potential. After all - it's what you make with what you have that counts.

PS: I don't know what makes you think I have previous knowledge of Magellan and Lapu Lapu .. I wonder ..

  • @kiwiiisland Its really quite strange how we half asians are. I noticed a direct difference in aging too. Those that age quickly have more Western features and think more like Westerners. I am a natzi about that. I call them version Millenium or Vistas. A lot of them have diseases too. As complex as the brain is, there are definitely differences. I think a great, great deal goes to the diet. I grew eating Asian food and now cook it. I noticed other foods make me stupid.

  • @kiwiiisland I don't believe that that we are all wired identically. Everything else in nature is not. I don't think that humans are exempt.

  • @kiwiiisland What you mean is hypothesis. And you must realize that White people are not like Asian people. Everywhere in the world Asian people build up their economic base and build towns. They share amongst themselves.

  • This is interesting. Wish there is a full version of the program.

  • I think this would have been more appropriately labeled, Asian vs. European brain. I guess when Asian countries think of America they think of Americans of European descent. I guess the European brain is more directly focused on a specific object where as Asians look more at the bigger picture. Both trains of thought have their pluses and minuses.

  • 0:56 a gwen stefani fan ausome!

  • I guess I am an Asian, according to this video, yet im American. Although that test with the cylinder was difficult. I think it belonged to both groups. It was a cylinder like the other one, yet it had the same color as the cuboid. If I had to choose one or the other, it would be impossible for me without knowing what the group is. The question was very vague. Is it supposed to be categorized by shape or color? Although I suppose thats what these people were actually trying to test us on.

  • the 2nd question i didnt understand the lang at 1st, but when the asian woman spoke in eng, she miss leads us, cuz the Q including any factors like breaking the object, that would have been another story, its all a mind trick, im an achitecture major & iv proven my psychology 101 & 102 doctors are all mindless idiots who lack logic

  • I don't understand this, to me the flower belongs to A, I can't see how it can belong to B??? Was the question really where the flower belong???

  • that was the question. it can belong to A if you look at their overall/average appearance, or it could be B if you look at the only consistent feature: its stem is straight, just like every flower in B.

So if you assume that all the flowers are valid members of their group (healthy), it belongs to B.

If you think of it as a real-life situation, you'd expect some exceptions in every group and you'd probably choose A since the stem is the most irrelevant feature of a flower, generally.

  • Thanks, I didn't notice the stems at all!!

  • I'm not Western nor Asian...

Yet I picked A for the flowers and got the second question correct.

  • 6:08 - Eww Yoko Ono!

  • can someone please translate these experiments for me so i can try it myself? my japanese is a bit weak...

  • i hate being clasifide westnern?

    it sounds soo bad.

    but im not.

i have nothing to do with britain or america

    im irish

    not western?

  • I am 100% American yet I picked

A for the flower group and the rectangle for the block group. I viewed the cylinder as simply being a shape craved out of the rectangle.

When looking at the picture I see the whole picture. As a matter of fact I was always tease about this while growing up that I see the wierdest things. But I don't see wierd things I simply see the background as 'part of' the picture.

Bottom line according to this clip I think like a Asian but I am 100% American!

  • @gerryg7 I have the same result as you, and I am 100% American, as well. :)

  • @gerryg7 an Asian you mean. When there is a vowel you say "an" not "a". Sorry, but I work in a restaurant and have to hear this all the time. It bothers me that American don't speak proper English.

  • @chowmanfu Don't worry if I was talking to you I would say 'an' Asian. I was raised by a father who also had a stickler about this ^__^!

  • @gerryg7 No offense but you should mention that you are a 'CAUCASIAN' American and not simply Americans because you get 'ASIAN' Americans as well

  • I didn't understand the question at the beginning because it was asked in Korean or something. What were they asking with the flowers? Which group does the flower belong in or something?

  • yep. that was the question: based on the flower in the middle, which group does it belong to?

  • which one is a tats?!

  • dude, don't tell me you traveled all over the world to ask one question.

  • what's the question? lol

  • I think perception is based on if a person's brain thinks more creatively or logically.

  • @smacktofu i think you are one dumb motherfucker

  • I'm American and I got A for the flower thing. but I got the block thing matching the shapes.

  • East and West are INDEED different!!! XD!!! I am Asian grew up in the West. I am Asian Genetically but I don't "think" very Asian!!!

  • LMAO! In San Francisco, they must have asked people in the Marina... Go across the bridge to Berkeley or down 101 to Stanford please.

  • man, did the interviewer ask stupid people from the west for the first question? its obvious where the flower should be placed ..

  • Obvious!?! Look at the stem. There is no "should," it's a matter of perception.

  • I'm an American and I picked A on the first one because 3 flowers in group A all have a petal on the right side, while only one flower in B has a petal on the right side.

The second one was difficult but I said the square because both are made of wood.

Does this mean I am Asian?!?

And yes, I think the way the questions were asked (language wise) could greatly influence the outcome.

  • dude, there is a research that has been done on cognitive differences between Eastern and Western people. Eastern people have more ease in relative judgment, whereas Western people have more ease in absolute judgment.

  • no if ur american ur american..LOL! im asian i picked A

  • @AkimboJoe dont worry xD asians arent all that bad ^^ you have the best of both world :D (my god, such a late comment xD)

  • West doesn't just include english countries u know... and the east contains more than just northeast asian

i know this may sound bs, but the results are probably influenced by the one giving questions who is more likely to be channeling and focusing on the one s/he wants the interviewers to pick

  • it really is

  • Spelling Beijing wrong = fail.

  • wow that was an intelligent comment. very well thought out. i seriously doubt that your IQ is even over 90 because u would have not made such a stupid comment.

  • lol mine is 143

  • how is that B? wow so damn stupid

  • I suspect that the Westerners thought it was B group because of the stems. The flower in question had a straight stem, and the ones in group B all had straight stem.

The East Asians thought it belonged to group A because overall similarities, not limited to one single trait.

It's very much indicative of why Western societies have traditionally emphasized more on legalism, and have such obsession with individual liberties.

Don't get me wrong, I'm East Asian, and I am all about Asian pride.

  • What is this about?

  • I think I have been in Asia too long because I said the same as the Asians. haha...I am white...
