Here, Cookie Monster wants to eat things that aren't even food, much less cookies in particular. Years later, people freaked out at the idea that Cookie Monster would eat vegetables. Conclusion: people are idiots, and Cookie Monster thinks many things are delicious.
The point of this film isn't to teach kids about (not) eating art, it's about helping them understand that everyone sees art in different ways. We all bring our own experiences to the art we see. If a statue looks like ice cream to a kid (or adult!), that's not artistic sacrilege...it's actually a rather profound observation. The rest of this movie gets at that theme in a dozen different ways. Of course it's subtle and fun and you don't realize that the lesson worked until many years later.
how can this special exist if they are locked in the museum overnight and a guard they hide from has the keys to let them out?? am i missing a joke there
What an rock n roll Cookie Monster song!!! Cookie Monster eat the pictures and even statues and even in the museum. He will be kick out at the museum!
I am in love with this movie. Honestly I used to go to the library every week begging my mother to rent it!!! This is my favorite song! I know museum manners now! Also I'm a proud owner of this movie now :) I got it for easter when i was 8
I went to the Met for he first time last weekend. I had been wanting to go since I was little because of this movie. They had the vhs on clearance. I had to buy it!
Whil I adore this movie...I don't see how eating pictures could possibly even be considered part of musuem etiqutte...but who cares? This movie is the BOMB!!! And this song is one of the best!
This movie is one of my earliest memories. My dad was a high school foodball coach. I remember being in his office while he did his job, watching this movie on a little TV/VCR
Wow, I just realised this whole movie was about the characters trying to avoid the security guards while looking for Big Bird.
Nowadays the movie would just have the people going up to the security guards saying "Excuse me sir, I must have been distracted when you made the announcement! Could you let my group and me out?" to show a good influence on the kids. We were so much more hardcore.
I barely remember this video. I used to watch it all the time when I was 4. I only say I remember it because of the creepy scene with thr statues towards the end.
I feel stupid now. I meant near the beginning of the movie. I started watching DEtP again. Still creeps me out to an extent. But at least the full frontal nudity made up for it. haha
Wow...um, after seeing this after so many years I feel a sense of nostalgia and mockery at the same time. Sesame Street was supposed to teach children about morals and ideals and then they had this song...I remember when I was a kid I used to take this song quite seriously. Now I can't stop laughing. I'm actually half tempted to go to the Metropolitan sometime in the near future and see if I can get away with singing this song without being thrown out.
This is probably the funniest youtube comment I've ever seen, mostly because (a) I'm always tempted to do stuff like that, and (b) I can just imagine seeing someone walking around singing that loudly and everyone walking around the museum 'seriously' looking at him like he's some crazy homeless guy who wandered in uninvited.
I urge you to do it....and then post videos of reactions.
I love this movie so much... I used to watch it all the time and sing the songs from it! I love you so much for putting this up! I have to watch it again...
I used to work in the childrens gift shop at the met and they would play crappy videos all the time but i always made sure this one got heavy rotation. NO NO NO, ME KNOW THE RULE!
actually it was a boy sawhoo, and the cat was tammet i think if memory serves me right, but think about this. if they were locked in a museum all night why didnt the guard just let them out lol oh i know there would be no show then lol
There's something unsettling about Cookie Monster contemplating eating the mummified flesh of an ancient Egyptian king. I for one am glad that his will power held out this time.
I'm dating myself when I say this but...this is literally the **first time ever** seeing this clip...never seen it before in my life! Tells me 2 things...1: I outgrew S.S. and moved on to The Electric Company ...and 2. Like all good programs, S.S. changed and grew with the times. Any other '1st generation S.S.' people have any thoughts about this item???
Here, Cookie Monster wants to eat things that aren't even food, much less cookies in particular. Years later, people freaked out at the idea that Cookie Monster would eat vegetables. Conclusion: people are idiots, and Cookie Monster thinks many things are delicious.
