I haven't had the anthology albums for years but I seem to recall reading in the notes that this track wasn't just transferred electronically for this release but was fed into speakers at Abbey Road studios and then re-recorded with mics for the ambience. Or did I dream it?

@TheWhuever True, but that’s because the musicians were instructed to play without vibrato for this take. The song version was played with vibrato which makes it more mellow. Perhaps this is why I like so much this take AND I like so much Bernard Herrman’s Psycho.
