  • who sings the song??

  • @greenprint666

I sure wish I knew. The Silver Dollar City theme park ride it was created for doesn't have any record of the singer, because they use their own "in-house" musicians when needed, and apparently there was no need at the time to preserve the individual attributions :(

  • So, is there any way we can see this now?

  • @jaredofmo

Great news! It airs on MO PBS Thurs. Jan. 13th at 8:00 PM

By that time there should also be a DVD available through amazon!

    Thanks for your interest.

  • Learned about the baldknobbers at Silver Dollar City!

  • I hope that ride stays there forever, just as it is now! Though at times historically inaccurate, it really stokes the public's interest in the real back-story.

  • i was introduced to the baldknobbers through the politically incorrect(but goofy, funny, and memorable) "Fire in the Hole" ride in silver Dollar city when i went there on a highschool marching band trip. To be honest, Branson, MO is the most boring place I have ever been. Anyway, ever since that, i''ve been fascinated with the baldknobbers mostly cuz they were one of those mask wearing groups.

    5/5

  • I'm glad you were introduced to the Bald Knobbers the same way I was; the Fire in the Hole ride is indeed one of the best things in Branson!

    Thanks for the comment!

  • that makes 3 of us! lol

  • you're dumb. branson is AWESOME! i'd tell u something, but i gotta remember that i'm a church girl >:(

  • this looks really cool. My family has lived in the area for hundreds of years, and my grandmother claims several of our relatives were in the Taney county chapter. I would love to watch this when in is on PBS. Any idea when that may be?

  • Thank you!!

That's very interesting that you have such strong ties to the area.

I imagine it will see broadcast in the next month or two; I'll contact you when I have a firm date lined up!

I really appreciate your interest in the documentary. For me this is only the beginning of a whole slew of projects dealing with the Ozarks' rich culture, history, and mystique.

  • 5 * from me,, john, uk.

  • Wow! Thanks so much bigjohntightlips! I really appreciate the feedback! Though this film has played a few festivals since it's late 2006 release, a new version is coming out this summer on American public-broadcasting stations, so hopefully it'll do well enough to spread to other parts of the world!

Particularly after the documentary segment that Warner Bros. is releasing about the Bald Knobbers on their Watchmen DVD next month gets some exposure!

Anyway, I really appreciate your feedback!

  • omg i luv that ride so does my cuz

  • were did you get that song?????? I NEED TO KNOW!!!!!!

  • It's from Silver Dollar City's publicity department. I told them they need to sell an album featuring all the music beds from all the attractions, but I think unless other people encourage them it might not happen too quickly. So write them and ask for it too! It needs to happen.

  • who is the singer?

  • Silver Dollar City actually doesn't even know that! They said that they had a team of company musicians back in the late 1960s that recorded all the music beds for their rides, but I suppose since they were in-company they didn't need to file agreements or keep track of that sort of thing.

Which is a shame to be sure, because this guy's got an amazing style that fits this song perfectly.

  • Good luck Monsterfud!

Hrmm.. Fire In The Hole. I remember the nasty stories when I was a kid.. but I scraped the ceiling on the drop with my fingernails when I was a kid.

All the more reason to fear it now that I'm taller. :D

  • PBS in the Branson area is interested in running it but because I'd used a few shots from the IMAX Corp. back when it had film-festival status, they want me to replace their material before broadcast. Hopefully within a few weeks I'll have that settled and ready for a fall airing!

  • Has this been picked up?

  • @RoyalKidofOz

  • I love that song too. I've been going to SDC since I was a kid. I haven't been there since I was 18 I'm 21. I'm taking my nephew and mother there next month. We're going to branson for 11 days! I love that area. I'm from southeast missouri, but branson, feels like home. I don't like country, but love bluegrass. 'Run boys run!'

  • I know what you mean about that area "feeling like home"! I too love bluegrass but am not very fond of modern country.

I hope you have a blast in Branson next month!

  • i heard that song on the ride fire in the hole. no wonder lol love that ride

  • Yeah, it's one of the greatest songs ever, on one of the best rides ever!

  • they shuld make a new movie fr this..like Ned Kelly they r legends ???!!!!!!!!

  • I LOVE the BaldKnobbers for what they did at the beginning and still like them even though they got out of hand. I'm glad Billy Miles was shot after murdering Nat Kinney! Look up Nat Kinney in Google. It's the first site. He was in the wrong place, at the wrong time. He was only 49 years of age when he was murdered! he was still young!! I Would love to find out where all of the original thirteen Baldknobbers are buried!!!

  • A lot of them are in the old Forsyth cemetery, presently the Swan cemetery.

I'm glad you agree that Kinney was still young when murdered! One wonders what he would've did next.

  • Torally Agree! :)

  • Question. In what County or City is Swan Cemetery in? I tried Google Earth, But couldn't find it. :)

  • I'm sorry, I somehow missed your question until now.

The Swan cemetery is also in Forsyth, MO, near Swan Creek.

  • Thanks! Would their tumbstones(if there is one) be visible in the cemetary or would there just be some stone that marks "Baldknobber" or what? Just curious! :P

  • The tombstones in either cemetery don't say anything at all about their BK or Anti-BK status. However if you know the names well enough, they're very easy to find.

There are two other cemeteries besides those, which include a few others who were involved in the events. One is VanZant cemetery and the other one's name I can't recall at this instant, but they're both within a ten-minute radius of Forsyth, MO as well.

Do you live in that area?

  • no I live in the Springfield

  • You're not far from there then! Every Mother's Day there's a "Law Day" pageant in Forsyth where the local historical society reenacts the BK events. A few members of that group intimately know the locations, so if you're interested in more information the books don't have, that society is extremely informative.

  • WOW! Thank you so! I'll try that! :D

  • I hope this can get picked up. I live up in Springfield, and my dad, though not a Missouri native, is fascinated with our local history and passed it down to me, as well. He and I would love to see this documentary.

  • Thanks for the kind words. I'll be doing my best to make the program as available as possible.

I love how rich and unique Ozarks history has been.

  • Same here!!

  • Wow! Very interesting! My wife and I have been traveling to Branson/Silver Dollar City all our lives. We would love to see more of your video! Keep up the good work!

  • Thank you for your kind words! I'm currently sending the full 29 minute program out to film festivals, and will try submitting it to PBS or The History Channel soon. Once I learned of how the history had been corrupted to bury the past and fuel Branson tourism, it became important to me to get the real story out there.

  • Hey! Awesome video. I was wondering if you could tell me the name of the song and who sang it. I've been trying to find it for a long time now. Thanks!

  • I don't know the name, as it came directly from the theme park's operations dept. Hopefully this documentary will prompt them to officially release it!

  • Wow - I have never heard of this group - who did they go after - and why?

I am very intrigued, I am an anarchist, and VERY interested in hidden histories of revolt!

  • They went after criminals in the Ozarks. The many caves in the area offered outlaws refuge, and the remote location made southern Missouri a hard place to police. So a group of upstanding men formed a secret police force, and of course it quickly blew out of proportion: 1,000 Bald Knobbers in number in a county of only 7,000 people. That's when they began to get out of control. See the wikipedia entry for more information!

  • I am incredibly intrigued by this. As someone who has fallen in love with the Ozarks, I am interested in all aspects of its history. I'd love to see more of this!

  • PS: Is the song used in this trailer the same song used on Silver Dollar City's "Fire In The Hole" coaster?

  • And yes, that is indeed the Fire in the Hole song! It's a shame that the park itself doesn't even know who sang it as they simply have a staff of musicians that they pull for projects from time to time, but apparently they didn't keep record of who did that particular one.

  • That's awesome that you're interested in Ozarks history. It's a very rich area of study! May I ask how you stumbled across this? I really uploaded it for using as a quick link to give out to film-festivals, and didn't expect people to find it on their own. But that's great you did find it! I'm in the process this week of submitting it to Sundance and another festival. Hopefully it'll get in to one of them.

  • I found it by doing a search for Branson.

I just recently read Shepherd of the Hills for the first time ever, and it really got me back into wanting to research Branson/Ozark history again after a bit of a lull.

Good luck with Sundance and the other festival! I hope it gets through, 'cause this really looks incredibly intriguing!

  • Thanks for the support and for letting me know how you'd found it.

I didn't find out until after a few years that Harold Bell Wright had actually written a sequel book to Shepherd. I was just thinking yesterday that I need to read that, even though it doesn't have Bald Knobbers in it.
