@DQuerei with this specific solar charger the answer to your question is no, the batteries provide storage and drive the USB port so that the charger can remain compact and lightweight but still deliver enough charge to a device. They also allow for use of the charger without sunlight. However, we do make a line of chargers that will allow for direct charging using the included RA-2 accessory and a car adapter. Check out the foldable and/or rollable line of chargers.

Does it mean you cant direct drive or charge your phone from solar panel only in sunlight ? So i have to put batteries in if i want to charge my phone even with or without sun ?
