  • It's bad to make these 6.5 diesel smoke ask heath diesel plus the way fuel is now why would u want to watch $ $ sings roll out of the exhaust.if you loom at a new diesel you wonder why u can't blow smoke? It's plain and simple people complained Abt its bad for the evironment. It's not bad and thanks to the kids that think black smoke is cool now diesels are in the same boat gas was in 70's

  • @KTMdude07 that's his exhaust. If you have stock exhaust it won't smoke. You need to get a bigger exhaust straightpiped all the way down. 4inches will make it smoke fine. But I don't know why you would want it. It's wasted diesel. Black smoke = unburnt diesel = wasted diesel that's not doing anything.

  • @zymuur my '95 3/4 ton smokes when the pedal is near the floor and its stock. the only reason it smokes is because the waste gates are not good.

    IDK how much gears does that truck have, but i think the gears are too long. For example, here i brazil the silverado has 5 gears, a 01 silverado, in first gear goes only 30KM/h or 18Mp/h at 4500rpm. The engine is a MWM 6.07t

  • I have a 96 with 130,000 miles i put a heath diesel relocation pmd kit on mine and installed it above the skid plate. Ive had no problems with the motor at all, its been a fantastic motor. I dont understand people who say they dont have power, mine has plenty of power! beautiful 6.5 by the way buddy

  • Hey dude great truck! My 6.5 has the exact paint as yours and everything. What are you running for performance bolt ons? and how did you set your boost to 15psi?

  • One thing about the 6.5 Turbo Diesel that most people don't know is that they are a DEMIL B item because of its use in the HMMWV.

  • my 98 6.5 had the gn8 turbo on it. best thing you can do is cold air intake and get rid of your back pressure and that retarded cat

  • The 4L80E is an ok tranny it can be tweaked so you dont bog going up hill and the ratios can be changed too or better yet get a 4L85E

    Most of the 6.5s uphill issues are with the program GM put into it, with proper tweaking the problems go away,

    I'm not diss-in your claims just posting reality, I don't know you so I'm not hitting you with the BS card, but 425 from the 6.5 is not easily achieved and if the 425 ypu are posting comes from a dyno, then data from the dyno is suspect, some dynos give a very high incorrect Hp output.

    With PWM control for TCC lock used in the 6.5 trans, you can't use a Jake Brake, see TCC has to stay locked for the engine to slow with the Jake Brake, without TCC lock it just slips and you just wind up with noise from the JB and you don't slow with the engine

  • My dad has a '94 C2500 with a 6.5. Its pushin about 425 horsepower. We've been lookin into new turbos but haven't decided on what to get yet.

    The highest I have seen so far ANYWHERE on #2 only is just above 300whp and just under 600wtrq... If my math is correct your dad should be running around 800 wtrq or possibly higher?

  • with a GM-8 ??? not hardly few performance 6.5s out there mine is one, World 6.5 record was set last year by friend of mine Bill Heath 158mph @ Bonneville, he is 500 Hp but is twin turboed with a LOT of other work. I'm about 220-250 rwhp 300+ flywheel Hp with many mods, It's been a while since my last dyno run, GM-8 turbo does not have goods for 425Hp, your Dad may have higher Hp than stock but not 425Hp

  • @DropDownLowrider Not as much as cummins, powerstroke or duramax, 94's and older only ran about 7-9 psi stock, the electronically injected ones were a little higher which was 95-2000, but still they have a good deal of working power

    185 stock Hp @ flywheel, with mods 200+ at rear wheel is very doable

  • I have a 1994 6.5 td and I love to just go on rides in it. I got my license taken away due to a non-driving related incident a while back. I just finally got it back. Im moving to South Carolina and I am thrilled about the trip ahead.

  • No the 6.5's had the 4E80 I think. Only the dmaxes got Allisons

    They have the same standard small block chevy bellhousing pattern as the gen 1-5 sbc 350s do... Im almost 100% sure that an allison of the lq9 trucks will bolt right on just have to figure out computer control for it....... We will find out this winter cuz im going to attempt a 6spd allison 2wd with built 6.5 going into my obs dually and its going to have alot of fuel and run either an he35ve or custom compound setup for towing and mag mileage!!!!

  • @ragebowhunter93 With a slightly lowered dually 2wd, with a 6spd allison slightly modded, a heavily modified fueI system, and run an he35ve vgt turbo with front mount intercooler, I should be able to get close to or even over 30 mpg with 3.73-4.10 gears, the allisons .62 6th gear OD I should have a great powerband as well as having the extra brake capability from tranny and turbo too!!!!! maybe add an h2o/ meth injection system and shoot for 35mpg lol wont happen with my lead foot but possible!

    have u had any reliebility issues with the engine?

    A lot of folks fitted the 6.2 and 6.5 in landrovers but some went bang pretty quick and I also saw a post about failing glow plugs.

  • 3 is Drive (D) is OverDrive.

    My boost is set at 15 psi.

    The most i've done to the engine is just maintenance stuff. Nothing to major, biggest would probably be oil cooler lines.

  • The cowl was on the truck when I bought it, it is all metal though. I have to boost set to 15 psi on the GM4 turbo.

  • Open up the exhaust, and open the the intake a little bit and you should hear the whistle better.

  • throw away the old airbox. As long as you do that it should sound good. I got a SSDiesel intake because It was cheap and seemed simple. on mine it whistles going anything over 15MPH barley on the throttle

  • god yes. The SS air intake is probly the best thing you can ever do for a 6.5.

  • yea too bad I have a bad CDR and it keeps getting oil on my new intake!!

    I just want to get more air and colder air to it. The cowl hoods from LMCTruck are nice but way too expensive. But a hood scoop on the passenger side around the intake would be sweet as hell, And Ive never seen that before Ive only seen the hood scoops right in the middle but one off to the side, That would be one unique 6.5.

  • It is a '95 Silverado with 6.5 TurboDiesel in it. And it does not have an engine or exhaust brake on it.

  • Sick truck! Great exhaust note too, especially engine braking down hill. Great acceleration for a 6.5 Turbo Diesel.
