  • Nice music.

  • Well done go for it...

I did my first half marathon here in Western Australia last Sunday 30/08/2009.. of course with no preparation at all I came at bad time, but for me it was to finish...

Good luck, you will feel different after you finish it

  • Cool vid! I'm going to start training for another marathon this week. I was thinking of making a training vlog.

  • Cool! I will check your video out! I still have to post my video about the 1/2 marathon! It was great!

  • Thanks for posting this as a response to my video Gary. We'll have to keep each other posted with our progress. I may well do some more 'Jog Vlogs'

I'm been quite surprised at how well received my video has been received.

BTW I've just bought the Coldplay CD, on your recommendation. I'll let you know how i get on with it :)

  • Sorry for the late reception on this comment. As you know, I've been out of the country for the past few days! :)

I'd love to hear what you think of the Coldplay CD. I love it!

  • very nice footage of Wisc. and a little tension there too with those storm clouds.

Glad to see your camera and your arches survived the ordeal! You're inspiring me to stick with my excersise.

  • Those clouds were crazy!! It ended up downpouring for about an hour 5 minutes after I recorded the conclusion of this video! Gotta love mother nature! !:)

  • Great job, and good luck with the marathon. The footage you shot was amazing! Wisconsin is beautiful.

  • Thanks Jason! I shot this all with my little cybershot digital camera.

  • Gary,

I can't believe I just saw this video. I didn't even know you had posted this. You put it on a bulletin on my page and I haven't visited my page for a while. I'm usually on my sons account. Great job on the run and I really loved the scenic tour of rural Wisconsin. I think your nephew should put you in timeout again for using A** in the video. LOL. Leave it to you to point out the irony in Country Run. Too funny.

  • With the clouds looking like they did, I'm lucky I only used the A** word! LOL

And yeah, it appears that all the videos aren't appearing on people's sub pages....which is a shame. I'm glad you go to see this one though as I'm quite proud of it! :)

  • I also really love the shooting style, just letting everyone see what you see and really experience the atmosphere. This and your sailing video are just really fun to watch. Well done Gary!

  • Thanks again Andy! Having this new little camera has allowed me to be very mobile in the greatest sense of the word...and I am looking at my vids in a different light these days...As am I looking at how I share my world differently these days. Thanks again brother! :)

  • Dude, I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to finally watch this video. I was gonna watch after work last night, but I ended up in Canada till 4 am. Long story.

This was so much fun to watch. I love that rural setting and I'm in awe that you can do 9miles in 90 minutes, because I can gaurentee you that I would need much much longer to complete that.

  • Canada? You do realize that 888 is on, well, 8-8-8! LOL It sounds to me like we'll need to have another Skype!

And thank you for your comments. It seemed like pure hell the entire time doing it, but looking back, seeing how I did 90 minutes in that time AND stopped to shoot this video...I don't know how I did it! :)

  • That's the glory of Buffalo, Canada is about 30 minutes from my house! lol

  • And no problem crossing the border without a passport?

  • Nope, no problem at all. I just showed them my drivers licence and my birth cirtificate and I was all set.

  • Sweet! Cuz I'd hate to hate to bail you out at customs! LOL

  • Haha, I would just hope you get that call while you're on camera...

"Oh hey Andy!... You're where?... wtf..."

  • LOL! That would be priceless! LOL

  • Seeing as how good you are doing right now come the end of Sept. you are gonna leave everyone in your dust. Keep up the great work. :)

  • Thank you! :)

I really just want to finish! :)

  • sounds like you are kicking ass in the marathon, G! plus with a view like that, even i would get up and run through these wonderful clean, empty, sunny fields ;)

  • Thanks Sil! :)

  • Dude , you have my upmost respect . I do a bit of running on the beach and at the local track , but i never go more than a mile . Maybe it's the smoking or lack of motivation , but you definitely are an inspiration .

The countryside looks fantastic , it's nice of you to show areas of the US that people in other countries may not know even exist . JV

  • I've realized I take my country side for granted, so it was nice to show that to my YT friends from all over the US and the world! :)

  • Wow - that was awesome Gary - the fact that you did it, in 90 minutes and the journey you took us on. That's some inspiring sights you get to see along the way - though you may net think so as you see it every day. If I were to run 9 miles - I'd pretty much see the same things. Homes, businesses, cars and traffic. Looks like you are ahead of the game in your training routine.

  • I don't go that route that often because it's so rural. I did a lot last summer on my bike, though. Quite often at that 1/2 way point, I was always amazed at the pure vastness of the countryside. That point-and-shoot camera I used at 678 also shoots video, and I've been able to bring it with me for these on-the-go shots much like my previous sailing video. I realize these sights and sounds are unique to many. I'm able to find that beauty in them. Funny how a running vid became so much more! :)

  • Not really funny given the fact that it's one of your vids. Running as metaphor. :)

  • Yeah..It's cool how all of these things have become metaphors for change, pushing myself, growth, etc. What do you see the wide open spaces to be a metaphor for?

  • This is more of a Star Trek theme than Star wars - but metaphor for "Let's see what's out there" There is so much to explore and do.

  • Star Trek? Ack!! LOL

Yeah, that's a good way to look at it...And that's how I approach these things. :)

  • taping. However, my Exilim recently did that to me. I couldn't zoom in or out and I messed with a few buttons and then it started up again. So maybe that's it. I need to fuss a little more with it. She needs to know everything about that camera before her grandbaby is born ;)

  • I did notice that zooming thing. It's caught me a few times, but I've just stopped what I was doing and then started back up. No big deal really. I didn't buy the camera for video at all, so anything I got from it was cool! I really love the quality, though, of that little $170 camera! Now I need to consider getting a new video camera, though, and am scratching my head as to stick with tape or go pure digital...and if I do that, need to make sure it works on my Mac. Always something! :)

  • I'm glad you're finally mobile. wheee. Lovely shots of Wisconsin. What camera did you decide on getting? Oooh nice clouds you aren't digging.

    You can do it! ;)

  • Beth, the camera I'm actually using is a Sony Cybershot point and shoot. I'll still be doing my vlogs with my built in webcam, and if i can get my miniDV Canon to work again, still use that for most stuff...but when I need to be mobile, that little CyberShot works great!

  • I just recently bought my sister a Sony Cybershot and the one thing I was really disappointed in was that it doesn't zoom while recording. You can zoom in and start recording, but you can't pan out. Unless you have to put it into a different mode or something... I just played with it for about 10-15 minutes to make sure it would do what she needed (which is major stabilization--she can't take a picture without shaking for some reason). But she had to give up the zooming in and out while video

  • 9 Miles!! That's awesome, dude!

Cool music and scenery too. Keep it up.

  • Thank you! :)

  • Jack O'Neil of Stargate Command talked about Wisconsin all the time. lol Beautiful. Man I'm so proud of you, you look great. I hit my goal weight and lost 70 pounds. I wish I could show you a before pic but I never took one. Are you going to compete in a marathon?

Thanks for sending me this Gary. I've been away from the tube for a few weeks now.

    Congratulations

  • Congrats on the 70! Wow! I'm down around 53 right now, kind of hitting a plateau. I have a few more i want to lose, so I still have much work ahead of me. But I will do it! :)

  • Here's a tip on being on a plateau.

For one day eat double the food you normally eat but just for one day. Also you can eat anything even one slice of pizza. This will break that plateau because it jump starts your metabolism. It works.

  • Thanks for the tip! :)

  • Awesome! I so much want to srart running sometimes, expecially after your inspirational videos, I just need something or somebody. And I so much love US rural country views! That would inspire me much more then everything, I just wish I could get out and see all that :).

  • Well, I hope you get inspired to run! That would be awesome! Good luck! :)

  • Why won't we do that together in 3 weeks? :)

  • That would be awesome my friend!

  • Allright!

About the trip - I'm gonna write you in a week with all the details, hope everything's gonna be ok.

  • Sounds great! I hope it will work out!

  • You are an inspiration for all man. Healthy life style all the way. You really inspire me and hell man, you look like your 22 years old. I'm taking your lead this year and going healthy! - John

  • The more you run, the more you feel like you can run more, that's a fact. I'd never seen rural Wisconsin. YouTube is amazing. Great, great video.

  • 22? You are far too kind my friend! Get healthy my friend, it's a good way to be more green as well!

Glad you enjoyed WI. I realized that it's a beautiful part of the country and wanted to share. :)

  • you are the freakin 100 000 dollar man!!

  • Steve Austin, at your service!

  • its like deja vu

  • lol

  • As we say in these parts, "Get it girl!!" :)

  • :-)

  • Shoot. YT ate my first comment to you! Well, it said something about liking the red barn/house. Liking the place my mind goes when out on the open road like that.

I also told you what my coaches told me. "Wind is your friend. Hills are your friend." Because they make you stronger and a better runner (or biker in my case).

And as long as it's not lightening; bring on the rain! I always felt rain was underrated. It kept me cool when on the bike. Oh yeah, are you bringing enough to drink?

  • There's a lot of hills closer to my house, on both sides of the river. I've learned to embrace them as they help my stamina. I've only run in the rain once, and it was actually quite invigorating (until my glasses started to steam up!).

  • You are doing great with your fitness regime Gary. 9 miles in 90 minutes is a very respectable time. I'm sure you will be fine by the time the half marathon comes around.

  • We'll see! I still have a long ways to go! But thank you! :)

  • All that running makes me tired. Maybe your feet are okay, but mine are killing me.

    I need to lie down...

BTW, this never showed up on my subs page - Jeez!

  • It didn't show up on mine either Curt.

  • with some ice cream

  • I think it's not showing up on a lot of people sub pages. Grrrr.

And I know, all this running...I'm not even sure how you managed that hike with Al, you poor thing.

    :P

  • In the last 30 minutes I've stumbled upon more than 10 videos (started losing count) that never showed up on my subs page this last week. NONE of GeneticBlend's videos have come up, and Diana told me she hasn't seen anything new from you since your two part vlog on getting featured.

    This site officially SUCKS!!!!!!!

Stepping away from it for a little while. Just not worth this much trouble.

    Talk to ya later...

  • It's frustrating, isn't it, to put this much time into our videos and then not have people see them? A lot of my regulars haven't shown up, and I'm sure that's what. The sad thing is, didn't we have the exact same problems about a year ago? What gives?

  • I've noticed that as well Curt, but not to that extent. I'll have to check & make sure i haven't missed any.

    Yet another glitch eh? :(

  • Beautiful scenery to run through - even those menacing clouds ;^)

  • Thanks Ken. Those clouds were quite menacing, but very majestic.

  • Eight miles? Dude, no wonder I had trouble keeping up with you at the gathering! If it weren't for that reddish-blond hair and distinctive sunglasses, I would still be wandering the streets of Minneapolis right now.

  • Actually, nine miles! :)

And i think you may have had just as good of luck following Spricket! LOL

  • 9 miles in 90 minutes it's very good, well done.

I run about 5 in an hour, so i have a lot of work to do until i'm @ your speed and endurance.

Your some what of an inspiration! keep training!

  • 5 an hour is still great!!

  • Wow, Gary, bravo! Nine miles! I am impressed! You're looking good... I hope you will take us again. I enjoyed middle America! -roc

  • Thanks Roc! I have a smaller camera now which allows me to bring people along to things I never could before. :)

  • Well done Gary.

I actually went out & did my first run for over a year today. Only did a couple of miles, but it's a start.

Thanks for getting me out the door again :)

  • Wow Andy! Way to go. You realize the inspiration works both ways, right?

We will definitely have to run a mile or two when we're in Nashville, just to say we did it!

  • That sounds good to me. I'll have to get some training in. I don't want you leaving me behind :)

  • I'm sure by October you'll have me in your dust! :)

  • That's the plan, he he :)

  • Nice!

Here's another thought...Depending on how much time we have in Chicago...if we stay downtown like planned, there are a lot of great paths along with lakeside. Chicago in the fall by Lake Michigan might be the place to run!! :)

  • You must have read my mind & not for the first time either! I was thinking how cool it would be to run along the lakeside in Chicago. And there was me thinking i'd have to do it on my own :)

  • It's scary how our great minds think a like! That would be fab!

  • Wow I never realized how beautiful Wisconsin actually is.

  • Thanks!

  • Looks like rural Ireland except its not raining ha ha!!!

  • I visited Ireland a few years ago, and the rural parts of it definitely reminded me of Ireland (as did the friendly people). And oddly enough when we were there, it was the warmest and sunniest it had been in years!

  • Nice scenery.

I don't think I can manage a run but this video inspired me to get my bike out so I can go for a ride after work.- Good luck with the training.

  • Wohoo! Have fun on your bike. That's what it's all about. Getting out there, enjoying the scenery around us, and moving! :)

  • Beautiful footage! At least you have a nice view while you train. Sound like youre making good time. Sure you'll be ready by sept.

  • It's quite beautiful out there, that's for sure! :)

  • 90 minutes - good going! at this rate the 1/2 marathon should be no problem :)

  • Thanks m8!

  • Way to go Gary!!! I was much more impressed than the cows were, LOL.

  • Cows have always been hard to please. Mooo.

  • Wow Gary, that's cool. You've gone from sedentary to being pretty darned fit in such a short time. Impressive. I had a hiking & camping vacation planned for next week but broke my patella today. Tomorrow I hope to get it set, but it looks like physical activity is on on my short term agenda. :( My hand weights are still handy though and tomorrow they'll come back into my life. Thanks for the pretty scenery and the update.

  • Sorry to hear about your injury. That really sucks. That's been my fear that I'll get hurt and then get sedentary again. Good luck and thank you! :)

  • Good for you, Gar!!! You're doing amazing!

  • Thank you!

  • Wow, that is some seriously beautiful country out there! Used to have more farmland here, but most of it has been converted to housing developments and strip malls. /sigh

Congratulations on the time, even with the stops that's not bad this early in the training, eh? :)

  • Much of our country land has been converted as well, although there's still a good portion of it that remains.

  • NICE TIME!

Yea, that video reminds me alot of visiting my aunt in South Dakota. Beautiful flat country for the most part. Ideal for those afternoon storms.

  • What I like about Wisconsin is that we have a lot of hills and bodies of water, but we also have our flat lands like this. I've been at the edge of South Dakota, and yeah, it does look a lot like Wisconsin in parts.

  • great job dude and yeah those clouds would been a good motivation for me to haul ass lol.

  • Shortly after I shot those clouds, the winds really picked up and it started raining. I hauled ass as it seemed like they were passing through...It sucked but it didn't last that long. Just long enough to make things miserable. 10 minutes after I got home from the race, it down poured for 2 hours!

  • you continue to amaze and inspire me Gary! Way to go!

  • Thank you Shannon! :)

  • Way freakin cool, Gary. You are doing great!!

    Moo cows!!

  • Thanks Jenn! :)

    Moooo!

They don't talk to me like your bunnies do to you! LOL

  • Great stuff!

If anyone asks why you're running, just tell them you can't afford gas anymore!

Love the landscape. Difference between here and there is that you have people in your rural areas where we have miles and miles between houses out there.

  • Thanks Michael! Oddly enough, I have been walking and running to places where I'd normally drive just to save a little gas. I don't go to the gym anymore either, I'd rather run around here and save the gas money getting there.

I realized that I show so much of my river and the occasional lake shot, but rarely show the rural part of Wisconsin which is major part of life around here.

  • Well done!

  • Thank you!

  • You look terrific, Gary. There's nothing like a running high, is there?

    Gorgeous country up there. -sue

  • Thanks Sue! Yeah, the running high feels GOOD! :)

  • After a mile I'd be passed out. I'm glad to see how commited you are to it. :)

    I hope you do great!

  • 6 months ago, I literally almost passed out after 5 minutes. When I look back i can't believe how far I've come.

    Thanks!

  • Very cool, man. Good work.

  • Thanks!

  • Great work and Great scenery!

  • Thanks John! Iceland has some beautiful land! :)

  • What a beautiful place to run. Excellent job on your run. Thanks for sharing. I'll be running a 1/2 marathon in November. What 1/2 marathon are you going to run?

  • I'll be running the Fox Cities Marathon (well, 1/2 marathon) in the Appleton/Neenah/Menasha area here in Wisconsin.

    And thank you!

  • Yep... Looks like home (Illinois/Iowa for me)

  • I didn't realize you were originally a midwesterner. Cool.

  • you looked mighty proud of yourself darlin'! as you should be. xoxox

  • I'm not sure if that was the feeling of pride, or just happy that I was done with all those miles! :)

  • Right on!

  • Thanks Steve!

  • Great vlog, Gary!

    -- Matt

  • Thanks Matt!

  • Go Gary !! WooHoo!

I need to have a nap now.

    hugs, Chris :-)

  • Thanks Chris! Trust me, after that run, all I wanted to do was take a nap. Instead, I had a music festival to go to with my friends! One of these days I'll catch up on my sleep! :)

  • Good luck!

  • Thanks man! :)

  • FIFTH!!!!!!, darnit...at least I made it.

    Get this man some water!!!!

It's hard to stalk people when they are running all the time, go figure..

  • With you being 5th commenting, that's the equivalent of a 10 minute vloggers mile. Good job! LOL

  • technically speaking, by stalking you, i should actually be losing weight!

Could u run past subway next tuesday, my blood sugar has been a little low

  • LOL!

  • Tuesday Yea!!!

    have a great day!

  • Thanks! You too! It's a 4 day work week, so it's almost 1/2 done! :)

  • Run Gary Run!!!!!

  • I'm the Forrest Gump of YouTube! LOL

  • and a shrimp boat named Jennie? You go Gary! Looking good there all fit and trim ... I eagerly await the marathon, followed by the new G-string series! Work it!

  • Actually our sailing boat is named "Shoot the Moon" but in my mind I'll start calling it Jenny! LOL

G-string series? Not on this site! LOL

  • WTG Gary! I knew you could (and would) do this!

Just a quick question....do you ever tape your arches? If not, a little athletic tape around the parts that ache can make a world of difference on the longer runs like this.

    :)

    Sandi

  • Thanks! I bought some E-Z glide for my feet and pecs (i.e. nipples) which were beginning to be two of my problem areas, and the stuff worked great. I will have to watch my arches and see if that was an isolated problem or if it continues to happen. To be honest, after I was done running, my legs were very tired, but my arches felt fine.

Thanks for your continued support! Next weekend I will do 9.5 miles! (And I have a "Firecracker 5K on the 4th of July that I'm excited to run in!)

  • Hiya Gary! A tip from my husband...buy a box of those little round bandaids that nobody ever uses....guess what they work really well for.....yup! Nips!

    "Firecracker 5k"! Sounds fun!

I saw a t-shirt the other day that amused me, and I thought of you. One of the high school cross country runners was wearing it. "Our sport is your punishment."

    S.

  • So far, the ez-glide is working out for that department. If that doesn't work, I'll look into the vaseline option that I've been hearing about. I'll keep those band aids in mind though for sure! I always wondered what they were for!

And I love that shirt! WOW!

  • Vaseline works very well Gary. I did use bandaids, as has been suggested, & they do work. But, personally, i found vaseline to be better.

Believe me runners nipple is no joke! Been there, done that, got blood on my t.shirt! :)

  • Yikes! That doesn't sound like much fun. - roc

  • No blood yet, but I can see where it would get to that point. Vaseline it is!

  • Rural Wisconsin looks alot like...regular Alabama!

  • LOL!

Well, then it sounds like we have a lot in common...not that we didn't know that already! :)

  • yo nice video lol I could never finish 9 miles in 90 minutes. thats what a 10 minute mile? jeez thats good :) for that matter i could hardly finish 2 miles :D well good luck in september gary!

  • I'm pretty proud with the 10 minute mile. I never thought I could do that kind of distance.

    Thanks!

  • I felt like mooing for several reasons.

Came on to catch up... watching this and gonna watch sailing..

Good job... you would so survive the island..

  • People like the cows! LOL

And if I was on that island, would I be more of a Jack, Locke, or Ben? Don't say Ben! LOL

  • locke lol

  • Don't tell me what I can and cannot do!

    -John Locke

    :)

  • Dude

    -Hurley

    :0)

  • LOL!

  • being like spazzo... second second second

  • you win too!

  • FIIIIIIRST!!

  • YOUUUU WIIIIN!

  • FIRST!!

  • YOU WIN!

  • first

  • you win
