  • Late sixties, early seventies heavy rock will not ever sound dated. In 2067, it will still sound one hundred years ahead of its time.

  • This is all Holdsworth - the solo was done in two halves and he changed guitars - the second chorus was played on his semi-acoustic Gibson L5 - what a crystal sound.

  • Wow!!! Never heard Holdsworth in such a non-jazz, non- prog, rock context. Very dated, but does it rock!!! This is the most rock-oriented holdsworth out there. Pretty Cool stuff!!! Thanks for sharing.

  • Holdsworth, ok, but there is a duet, and the "second" guitarist was (the great) Ollie Halsall!

Go to the ollie Halsall Archive!

  • Fair comment on EVH - but Holdsworth doesn't do any tapping.Says it all, really.

  • @marivor58 I've seen holdsworth tap in a solo. At the Tokyo gig: /watch?v=6MqzFN5-5jk&feature=related

He also did some chord tapping on the Road Games album. Though I've no idea if he did any tapping before EVH.

  • @nomis101uk Holdsworth first to fingertap? - perhaps not on recording, he most likely wouldn't give a shit either...but Steve Hackett of Genesis is the first rock guitarist I know to fingertap on record. Check out "Firth or Fifth" (1973) Also Pat Martino... and a classical guitarist, I forget his name, finger tapped with taste on record in the early 40's... One should always be wary of the guy who claims to be "the first" to do something which feels so natural and common at the same time.

  • amazing guitarrist! who is he?

  • Man, you can hear how much Eddie VH copped off of Holdsworth. The later solo on this piece sounds like shit Ed was doin later on. He must have lifted a lot of these ideas

  • abolutely right man that what I was thinking... eddie van halen luck was that holdsworth travelled into fusion...

  • Great,they kick ass!

  • Memories of spring 1973. This album was all over the 'rock' bits of radio at that time. Remember Vincent Price even presenting it once! Can't find the album - please post anyone?
