Building roads and bridges are an investment. When a family has no money do they build a new house? Jobs that create products, exports, technology, those are the long term jobs that build an economy and employment long term.

Why stress on roads and bridges? Could it be because they are union workers, and Obama wants their vote?

In February 2009, the month that Obama passed the stimulus bill, 141.7 million people had a job according to the Bureau of Labor Satstics. In May 2011, the last report available, that number fell to 139.8 million. In other words, the number of people employed since the stimulus has fallen 1.9 million—meaning unemployment has gone up. I think low aggregate consumer demand is the reason, because the middle class has weak purchasing power and are often unemployed. Corporate America is not making record profts WALLSTREET made certain industries are making record profits. The reason THAT was so huge however, was because of deregulation of the industries under Bush (and Clinton, too). Corporate america is nearly synonymous with Wallstreet, so I would be careful about distinguishing between the two. I agree he should have let them collapse. Obama is almost as much as a corporate shill as the republicans, except he does not wish to gut SS, a program I support.
