  • The funny thing abou this is, this guy would win over me in a talent show, but in a real fight I would kill him in 3 secounds. My point is, you are not a real martial artist.

  • @MasterNinja1990 This is for tournaments not for real life and BTW who the hell carrys a Katana around these days anyway. This is for the attributes. And yes he is a real Martial Artist. Why must everyone be so judgmental?

  • No he is not. Martial art is just like the name says "the art of war". The word martial art is even taken from the god of war "Mars". A real martial artist is a warrior. A man of great streanght and inner wisdom. All this guy is, is a kid playing around. I am fine with him doing that as long as he dont call it martial arts. If you are a martial artist then you should know what I am talking about.

  • excellent techniques, thanks for you share the techniques :D

  • Yo wha's up with the hate y'all?

be more nicer, it looks cool, admit it jalous dumbasse!

  • Why are they using swords instead of parade batons?

  • @videoedit69 What I do not understand about all the "extreme" junk is , if they also study a traditional art, why would they waste valuable training time? The time spent on this usless mess is time training real martial arts. I would have been disowned by my teachers if I told them I wanted to do this sh*t.

  • @videoedit69 agreed

  • ME POUPE VIO MENINO NAMORAL. Vai treiner Kenjutus de verdade isso ai nao é nada.

  • great circus performance!!!!

  • You are killing martial art guy ...

  • this is crap

  • I don't understand why some of these people commenting are so intolerant and stupid. Of course this isn't what swords are technically "supposed" to be for... they are meant to be used to kill people with. Which is kinda... y'know... illegal...

This style of sword is purely to look good and to use in competition. Why can't people accept that?

  • @MrJellyThunder Because the point of martial arts is not to look good. It is about developing the body. It is not about the dance, it's about the energy. When people only see and know the external, and forget the internal, then the true spirit of martial arts dies.

  • @mattrR678 This still helps to develop the body. Not in the way that the practical stuff does, but increases spatial awareness and dexterity.

  • @MrJellyThunder

I understand that some people log onto comments sections purely to flame others and feel better about themselves. However, the reason people object to this "sport" is because western flashy majorette-style sword slinging almost always uses the katana which, to many people, has the same status as a religious item. Imagine that this is someone spinning, throwing and screaming at a crucifix - could you understand why some people may not like it?

    Similar thing.

  • @rabbitlugsify So if it's not a katana it's fine, that's what you're saying?

  • Comment removed

  • If the guy was dressed as Coco the Clown and juggling crucifixes, Bibles, Korans, 9/11 victim's personal possessions and a small kitten, would that be fine? Is that what you're saying?

I would ask why people choose the katana for this type of display and not a stick though.

Notice I am not dissing the guy presenting, he's not a bad dancer, but don't make the mistake of confusing it with a martial art - you try this stuff against a trained swordsman, you die. Watch the masters, do they do this?

  • @rabbitlugsify This is supposed to win competitions, not be practical. You can't exactly go about killing people. And there is no way in hell you can relate a katana to "crucifixes, Bibles, Korans, 9/11 victim's personal possessions and a small kitten". No, that's not what I'm saying, because they are completely different things. However, this guy is kinda a bad example for my argument and does support your view. Ever heard of Kalman Csoka? I'd like to hear your opinion on him.

  • @MrJellyThunder

Yes there is a way you can relate if you understand the point I am making about the katana being sacrosanct to many people. Have you actually witnessed the creation of a traditional katana? It is as much a religious ceremony as it is a practical one. Never heard of K Csoka before, but just watched some of his vids and they look very "McDojo" - I'd prefer Master Risuke Otake, Dekker or perhaps Emilienenko. Authentic and effective.

  • were dose one buy a xma katana?

  • @AkechiSensei eBay lol... well that's where I get cheap immitations from anyway, similar to the bastardised Japanese forms of Martial arts

  • @del885

You get what you pay for (often less) on Ebay. I made the mistake of buying 3 "katanas" from 3 different dealers. "Genuine authentic and antique". Yeah, right, I hardly dare hang them on my wall for fear of them falling apart and killing someone. I once took one to the dojo and my sensei literally laughed, then told me in no uncertain terms that I was not authorised to even swing it in the dojo.

Find a good dealer, get one from there.

  • @rabbitlugsify yeah, ebay isn't that great, I only buy katana's or so what it was called from. Barely use it in my iado classes, but I mainly use it for backyard thrashing only brecause I know for a fact that it's worthless but fun to cut matts with. I think I'm upto my 15th katana from eBay (not too sure, could be less, I just lost count lol).

  • wow.....This is crazy!! lol

  • Pwwaahhahahahahahaha....reallly?

  • I wouldn't wanna be withing 50' of any of these kids twirling around a sword like a cheerleader does a baton. Someone always invitably lets one go.

  • @videoedit69 The participants know that XMA is not the real MA! It is for show and shows the other art side of Martial Arts! Did you ever hear any of them say this is a real swordsmanship training?!?!? If you do then post it and your comments will be legit!!! Otherwise you are like comparing Oranges and Apples ( well more like oranges and lemons) :O

  • @DojiSan If it is not "real" martial arts, How does it show the other side of Martial arts. No they never say it real sword training, but hes in a dojo, with belts hanging in the back. He is wearing a black belt I believe. And he says what he teaches will help you improve your sword form. I agree its oranges and lemons. But why are they dressed like oranges???????

  • @videoedit69 I'm confused as to the definition of "Martial Arts". What is the scope of this word. If I am studying for example how to poke someone with a finger and kill them, is that Martial Arts? There are two words, "Martial" and "Arts". What types of activities do both encompass? Is what he is doing in the scope of the "Arts" part? If so, can what he is doing then also be considered "Real" Martial Arts? :O

  • @DojiSan Arts Def per WikiP -"imaginative, creative, and nonscientific branches of knowledge considered collectively, esp. as studied academically." Martial Means Having to do with Mars "The God of war" in this case the "Arts of Mars". For what he is doing to have "Martial" value it would have to be effective in war. This is not......Arts? well art is subjective. you may have me on that. But this is not he art of war its the art of dancy twirly stuff.

  • @DojiSan As to poking someone in the eye. well yes that is martial arts. You can not seperate these two words when one is describing the other. I dont think anyone has ever died from having their portrait painted. I dont think........

  • I was kinda waiting for him to accidentally slice his face..lol

  • is that all? i can do that alot better

  • then prove it.

  • Well... this is just something for show and competitions in USA. It really has nothing to do with real sword techniques, it is just one of those flashy shows to attract audiences and judges. Probably this young man can do many things, since he seems to be talented athlete. Such shows are rather easy and safe to do on imitation sword - which is for children:-)

  • in my opinion...the katana wasn't made for this type of stuff...it's more suitable for chinese swords :P

  • his blade is an XMA katana from last year. you can find them in 3 different lengths at century or any martial arts school that does XMA. it is aircraft grade aluminum so its fast and light.

  • @bleapbleap

I would not call this a "katana" any more than I would a curved bamboo stick with some string wrapped around it.

  • Martial-arts are not dead. The military still teaches martial-arts. Look at the marines or the IDF. Those focus mainly on hand to hand combat in case you don't have a gun. The extreme stuff looks very good though and pleasing to the eye. If you saw a real fight with a marine or something the guy would be dead in few seconds and unless you are also trained you won't know what the heck happened.

  • thats called "kiai" ... (ki= energy , ai= come together)

you shout at the moment you hit something to concentrate your power

  • What's with all the sound effects? Is he saying "yes!"?

  • It is not a katana. the sword he uses is called wakizashi. It's much shorter than katanas are. I think the blade is approximatly 55-60cm long

  • actually sec that is not a wakizashi, wakizashis have shorter handeds thats a kodachi

  • may be

  • Good job! What kind of katana are you using? How longs the blade?

  • se sbagli ti salta un braccio!!!

  • thanx but i ment the first one, martial artist. Its more then just application, its dedication

  • this kid lives at his school, he will be in the middle of dinner and get an idea and his parents will drive him to the dojo to train that second. He is a true martial artist

  • i have to say he is very skilled with the sword he might be wasting some time with hes spin the sword in the air in battle he could loose the sword and be at highe risk but it looks cool lol

  • perhaps you dont know what youre talking about and perhaps you should learn a little something abouut extreme and creative styles!

  • anyone who critisizes XMA or extreme styles is an idiot, martial arts is not dying, XMA is not a form of fighting, it is a form or style, u learn fighting in other classes such as tae kwondo, karate, or other things, extreme style was made to impress the audience, its showmanship, its more fun than fighting, but yes real life practices are not present in extreme style,im a member of both XMA and taekwondo so i learn both, the extreme looks good and helps me condition far beyond traditional meens

  • i know that kid

  • dose ho can not , critisize dose ho can

  • dose ho can not , critisize dose ho can

  • I guess I'm just old school in not favoring these extreme sword and extreme martial arts styles, but hey, if the evolution of martial arts means that you are supposed to do movements with a lot of wasted and unnecessary motion, lots of openings for your opponent, and that you just do martial arts just for show, then i dare say that it is not worth doing. I pity the masters of old times who are rolling over their graves right now. The martial arts should improve and not deteriorate through time.

  • I think XMA is more of a side branch of MA, not the evolution where everything is going. With less need for real fighting, people express their skills in more creative ways. I think you will see both, XMA-type arts and traditional fighting arts grow side-by-side.

  • Guys(and gals). This isnt for fighting, though its impossible to repeat this fact forever. Martial Arts is not dead, nor is it dying. The fact that a person has less faith in such an aspect of life, in terms of it dying than it actually growing, well.. then yes.. martial arts is dying.

We could also use the old fashion arguement that A: You cant carry a sword in public. B: Guns work better than a sword. C: You are not Neo, this isnt the matrix and you cant stop bullets. =)

  • AZ, well put. In the days of the Samurai, MA was life or death. Warriors were devoted to becoming the best 24/7, all their lives. Now you go to a dojo after school, or after work, and you also take time for watching TV, go to Starbucks with friends, go to a movie, watch DVD's, do homework, fix the car/bike, shopping, organizing, overtime, pay bills, laundry, surf the web, etc, etc.

  • thanks...awesome if you ask me...peace...j.o...
