the apocolypse redux is even better. im not crazy on the french detour scene but the rest of e exra scenes i.e the playboy bunnies , the extras with the intro of the movie and the outro of the movie. you know in the original theres an explosion and they took it out on the REDUX. that was wierd though. Unless im off on that. Yeah. Sheen had a heart attack on this movie set. probably all the heat. yes. the best vietnam movie ever . THat sheen narrative slices you to the bone . MONKEY SAMP'AN. !!
that B-52's tail seems like the gates of hell in both versions. but i like more of how it looks in the original scene. one of the best vietnam war movies ever. RIP Brando
@PersianTowTruckMan the singing shows that the americans are changing the vietmanese with them singing "Light My Fire" but when the corpse is found it shows they cant change them completly
I agree--the "Light my Fire" stuff made no sense but the monkey thing would have been cool. It might have had a weird attachment to the quote from earlier in the film where someone says, "Lets blow them into the stone-age."
I think that there should be a 30th anniversary edition of Apocalypse now, with the original movie, the redux version, the 330 minute workprint, a special features disc, the soundtrack and the Filmaker's Apocalypse Documentary. Anybody agree?
That spooked me when i saw the body lol. Apocalypse Now is my most favourite film of all time, i love it. Lol, pretty sad that I went througfh a phase of watchhing it at least once a week - REDUX BABY!
its is weird and it should be, great stuff in my opinion. Seems surreal. But its possible, the tribe could have heard the song on the radio and start to chant it, simple.
This is probably a tribute to the brilliant final scene of "Aguirre, the Wrath of God". Creepy stuff. I wish that this (sampan only) had been included in the original film...
That one continuous pan/tilt/rotating shot when the boat passes underneath the tail of the plane is my favorite shot in the whole movie.

from what was that tail section, there in that river? A fighter jet's tail is smaller, i guess, and the body is a little bigger, no?

@periesicsd its a b52 bomber, not a fighter jet

Similiar to a scene in Aguirre, Wrath of God.
LibertineEagle 1 year ago
@LibertineEagle Absolutely. Apocalypse Now was deeply influenced by Aguirre IMO

@kennyferry Yup, this scene was definitely influenced by the end of Aguirre.

This scene would have been awesome if it made it into the movie... Except for the singing part, which was silly and ruins the creepiness of it.

This could have very well been the greatest scene of the whole movie... Absolutely disturbing and sublime...

Wow.
It's a bull's eye in setting the tone for the
final chapter. They were, quite literally, flowing
into the mouth of hell. This scene conveyed
that message a lot, lot stronger than what was
used in the final cut, the PBR passing under
the tail of the crashed B-52.

'That's coming from where we're going Captain...'
Sums up the whole scene perfectly - Foreboding.

@PhantomRaiden I'd go one further and say it sums up the MOVIE perfectly.

Very Aguirre.
Useless2112 2 years ago
Coppola meant for this scene to represent the whole movie in microcosm.
This scene should have been used as a trailer. Really gives you a taste for what you're in for.

i just seen teh 289 minute version, D. Hopper should of been added a bit more to final version..
I think redux is best but must cut the xtra bunnies, and plantation scenes.

Where can we find that one? I'd really, really like to whatch that one.

I guess. The Dossier set has half the stuff you mentioned, though.

I think they should ditch Redux.
Original movie was tight.
Redux is a bloated piece of ass.

Thanks for sharing this, we poor PAL-region people are denied the Complete Dossier DVD :(
Nice scene, should have been in the Redux version. What's an extra 3 minutes if your movie is over 3 hours...

Just watched this scene; they should have kept it in!
But what's up with the village folk singing "Light My Fire" by the Doors.

Yes, "tribute". Perhaps Coppola took it out because it made too obvious that the whole movie is a copy of Aguirre
