That spongebob house is so cute! The tank is quite small though. You need to put substrate into your tank! The beneficial bacteria live in substrate! And if you don't have a heater a heater is a must!

Substrate: gravel, rocks, sand. No marbles Ive heard they have a toxic chemical in them.

No sharp rocks or plants as these can damage your bettas beautiful fins! If you have plants do the pantyhose test on them!

i know your pain. all i ever actually had as a pet was a cat. then my mom let me get a betta. his name was Ninji. he was goergeous and he always flared out when he saw me mom come into the room. he lived eight months. he was rather large and must have been about 3 years old when i got him. i didn't know. he was my little buddy. I miss him sooooooooooo much! i cried for like 3 hours when he died. i burried him by our garden. the day after he died 3 morning glorys bloomed. i will remember Ninji.

Bettas breath air so he need some room to breath at the top.Dipends on what kind of tank he has,your may be ok if you fill it up but maybe his tank (unless its the same one you have) is different an there is no room to com up at the top.

Dude can't you just fill up the tank all the way? The betta would feel better than it is now to have more space. Plus you do not need a filter for that small of a tank with only a betta. Also the current would stress him out.

I had the same experience as you. When I was going to cavinti in laguna in the Philippines, I put my fish in a small case before I left. Then the next day I checked the desk where I left my betta elmo (the name of my red betta)he was there on the floor dead I kept on crying for a half hour. Aww. im so sorry! my betta named nelson died yesterday. we only had him for 6 days, but i felt like he was really part of the family! My mom said that he must have been sick when we got him, he would always lose his balence and float sideways, but still be breathing. The last night we had him, he was fighting to stay alive. i thought he was going to die in the night, but when i woke up, he wasn't. that night, i had cried so hard. i could tell he was in so much pain and i wanted him to let go! <3

the illness he had was called dropsy.. he was suffering alot. my mom hass a fish that has this, there are drops you can buy for a couple dollars at any petstorea and most of the time that cures it :)
