  • no one has shown how to set up the tripod for still or video imaging. i mean how far apart should legs be, should center column be raised, if 3 legged tripod should one use the thinnest? in other words what is the best set up for stability?

  • Can this tripod Ravelli AVT Video Camera Tripod, be used for both still and video, or is it video only... I'm looking to purchase it from amazon . Com so maybe you could give me a heads up. I purchased a Sony nex-5 so I will be doing both still and video equally. Please respond !

  • I don't really know much about this tripod, however while I would normally recommend a tripod that is designed for photography, it may well be possible to use this tripod for still photography although it may look out of place...

NOTE: As long as the tripod is sturdy, can pan, can tilt and can provide sufficient / reliable support for your camera then it should be ok for use. Also, it is useful to be able to level the tripod and tripod head.

I would recommend a tripod designed for photography

  • thanks

  • what's the difference between a video camera tripod head and a still camera tripod head?

  • Part #1..

Tripods used for still camera photography generally have two smaller handles that you can screw in or out to increase or decrease the amount of leverage. We screw the handles in to lock the tripod head into position and screw it out to provide easier movement when setting the tripod up into position.

The two handles are for setting the panning position of the tripod head (left / right positions) or, the tilt position - this is the Up / down positions.

I will continue in part #2...

  • Part #2...

Video camera tripod heads generally have one (sometimes two) long handles that come out of the head which provide easier ability to pan or tilt the camera.

The handle (tripod arm) used for this tripod head are not locked into position often as the video camera operator has to be able to record live action as it is continually moving - for example car racing.

There is also an attachment that can connect to the video head arm that allows the operator to zoom and focus.

    Cheers

    Dean.

  • Oh ok, thank you very much

  • You won't be wasting time if you put a little research into your decision...

Years ago, I bought a huge studio tripod and used it in the field. Not only are these things expensive, they are difficult to carry when you have a camera pack on your back - they weigh a lot. Stupid decision made by me...

    Cheers

  • I would like to buy a GITZO tripod, but which one should I choose? I need one with a head for photography and filming, if it exists..

Or do I need to buy 2 heads than? and if I would like to attach a external flash on it, do I need to buy a third head lol? Plus the tripod I'm seaching for should be around 150€ if it's possible! Thanks

  • I cant really assist you with your question in relation to purchasing a tripod other than to suggest that you view some of my other videos about the five questions you should ask when purchasing a tripod. Actually, from memory I think that there are about nine questions to ask

  • Reply Part #2...

Unfortunately, I do not recommend a particular tripod manufacturer over another as I do not get paid or endorse a particular brand (I actually own all equipment in my videos unless I say that I have borrowed items), I am not able to suggest a tripod for you.

  • Reply Part #3...

I would however, have a chat with a few of your photographer friends, or; someone from a store that sells this particular equipment. Also, remember to keep watching my other videos about tripods, they may provide additional assistance

I hope that this assists you in your journey?

    Kind Regards

  • how do u put a standard camera on a tripod

  • Have a look at the bottom of your camera, if there is an area that will accept a camera / tripod base plate then this should work for you...

If your camera does not have the above facility, you may have to ask your local camera store for suggestions. I will investigate this and further and get back to you if I find a better way...

    Kind Regards

    Dean.

  • Thank you for this helpful video! I'm buying a DSLR very soon so this is just what I need! Anyways, I would just like to notify you that the title is spelled incorrectly as "Caera" instead of "Camera". Because I do not post videos and only have an account simply to comment on videos, I don't know if you can change the video's title, but if you can, I would advise doing so. This might make it easier for people to find this video.

  • Thanks for telling me about the incorrect spelling for the title of this video, I had a virus issue sometime ago where it was not possible for me to type the letter M, it was very frustrating so I think perhaps I may have missed a few of the letter ms that I had to copy and paste I guess that this was one of them?

I will try to change the title of this video now I hope it works

I hope that you ill also find my other videos informative.

    Kind Regards

    Dean.

  • Dean the tripod head

each head is diffrent wich one is the most popular can u send me the pic plz

  • Unfortunately I am not sure which tripod head is more popular than other heads.

You really need to go out and try different tripod heads in camera stores, discuss this item with friends and perhaps try their tripod heads and most importantly you need to make sure that you are comfortable with the tripod head functions

Although I can not give you a definitive answer to your question, my other videos about tripod selection may provide you with some of the answers that you are looking for?

  • Thanks for the comment

Before you go out and buy your tripod, just be certain to watch all of the videos in this series...

The video that I have made about the Five Questions to Ask When Buying a Tripod should provide most of the information that you are looking for, however; it is still a good idea to view the other videos first.

    Cheers
