Israel was in Lebanon, and helped us Christians during the civil war by arming and training Lebanese Forces Martyrs, thanks to them there are still Christians in Lebanon. They came in like it was their house and no one stopped them. At one point in time it was palestinians, syrians and Lebanese Muslims against the Lebanese Christians. Ouwet!
Great story. I was just recently in Lebanon and let me say that I was astonished by the discrimination against the Shittes in southern cities in Lebanon (hezbullah stronghold). While Beirut, Sidon, Tripoli were all clean, beautiful and well taken care of, Soor (Tyre) was quite the opposite. I don't know if its from the war or not, but there was a great discrepency between the cities mentioned and Soor. Anyways, I just wanted to point this out and maybe understand others' perspectives. this was part of a 2 hour interview via the phone that covered all political aspects following the war on lebanon in 2006. to my surprise only the answers concerning hizbullah questions were posted.
they fought amal by end of 80s (i already mentioned that below), BUT the civil war in lebanon was depicted as war between christians & muslims..
amal & hizb fought as amal was supported by syria which hizb considered as foreign occupation (b4 lebanon legalized syrian presence in taef accord in1990)

Israel was in Lebanon, and helped us Christians during the civil war by arming and training Lebanese Forces Martyrs, thanks to them there are still Christians in Lebanon. Great story. I was just recently in Lebanon and let me say that I was astonished by the discrimination against the Shittes in southern cities in Lebanon (hezbullah stronghold). While Beirut, Sidon, Tripoli were all clean, beautiful and well taken care of, Soor (Tyre) was quite the opposite. I don't know if its from the war or not, but there was a great discrepency between the cities mentioned and Soor. Anyways, I just wanted to point this out and maybe understand others' perspectives. as for hizbullah.. they do constitute a large part of the lebanese fabric and daily social and political life. starting dialogue with them at any level, point, time, place is a key solution to get to know them.. instead of branding them and isolating them.

Hizbullah fought syrian & israeli occupation in the 80s. syrians executed hizbullah fighters in fet-halla barrack.
it wasnt until lebanese leaders legalized syrian occupation through taef accord that hizbullah stopped fighting them as occupiers

If you listen careffully to what I said I was just stating facts that they came into existance after the israeli invasion to lebanon..that they have alliances with multiconfessional parties, just like the other political camp's side.

fact 2- she said palestinians and muslims set up checkpoints etc... she failed to mention that christians (phalanges and lebanese forces) in addition to druze also set their own check points and killed fellow civilians from opposite religions.. I, personally am against the idea of any person holding arms in lebanon except the lebanese army. However, all parties hold arms, Hizbullah being strongest among them.
But then again, and i dont want to be the devil's advocate in this case if you look at international law, it allows any civilian to carry arms and fight occupation even if his or her own government refused this.simple example is the case of the french resistance under charles degaulle was fought by the french government then
