  • Chopin can be so incredibly heartbreaking.....

  • Its so classic Chopin, only he can pull off such mad modulations and chord progressions!

  • A wonderful performance! (BTW the repeat sign at "Doppio movimento" originated with the engraver of the German first edition--in other words, the exposition should be repeated from "Grave.")

  • this sonata, in Pollini's fingers, speak so deeply into my heart, this is the best sonata by any romantic era composer, better than Liszt's b minor sonata or Brahms' f minor sonata

  • Whenever I listen to this piece, and I so so very often, I am truly fascinated by the immense power and energy revealed between 5:00 and 5:20.

  • I wish I could play this...

  • I would love to learn how to play this piece.

  • @ItsNowWarfare

and now you can with 3 easy payments of 19.99

  • @MohoBiechiz i would actually pay twice that much in three installments to be able to play this piece this well.

  • @AvidHobbyist Ha lol i would give all my life savings to play these types of pieces

  • @afertyus1000 i would give my fingers to be able to play this

  • 2:04

  • I don't know what happened but 5:05-5:20 really did it for me.

  • @TheWanderingNight yes those are beautiful bars

  • OMG this was stuck in my head for months. I found it ! beautiful

  • @PhysicalsimForever Well Chopin worked very slowly. He took a long time to write his music because he wanted perfection. so I could see why he didn't write 15 minute sonatas. i would rather take his nocturnes and etudes than his sonatas personally. probably because i don't have the attention span for long pieces.

  • @PhysicalsimForever I read he only wrote a few because sonatas, at the time, were unpopular and a thing of the past. composers were writing more etudes. I wish Chopin would have lived a little longer. I'm sure he would have written more great pieces.

  • I'm an 'idiot' who dislike the begin of this song, since I hate Pollini's play in the first seconds. And then he plays it very well. He plays very clear. But I have to say, someone who dislike a song in the piano literature, isn't an idiot, understand?

  • Who the idiot disliked it?

  • eat your first dislike

  • The left-hand is so hard ='-( but i want to learn this piece badly...

  • @JazZebra you need large sapn and suppleness [both really]

  • Its nice to find a song that has 75 likes and no dislikes. That really shows how great the songs are.

  • never seen a better version of it. Pollini is outstanding

  • Beethoven tempest sonata

  • @Arfat what about it?

  • Tnanks! I love Pollini so much. P.S. Its nice idea with scores :)

  • I prefer his Nocturnes; however, this piece is exquisite. Is it possible for someone to put MORE expressive depth into a musical piece? I doubt it.

  • a beautiful sonata by Frederic Chopin. I listen to it every day!

  • He has such a round full sound.

  • now I know were rachmaninoff got his insparation....

  • I absolutely adore this Sonata. I think that I love this movement more than the funeral march, although the Finale is my absolute favorite. Chopin was so ahead of his time!

  • Maybe one of the darkest but also most magnificent pieces in hostory of music!

  • Pollini recorded this sonata more recently in which he repeats the exposition returning to the Grave. I think it has become accepted that Chopin intended this. I also heard a live Pollini performance of this work from the Royal Festival Hall (London)in which Pollini I believe reached new heights of expression and with darker colour. It was magnificent and even better than the later recording, though the later recording was close. The central section of the March: smiling throgh tears. Bravo.

  • This is **so** magificent.

  • Jesus Christ.... I know next to nothing about the piano, but to me, this is how it should be played, and what should be played on it.

  • if there was a god - then it was chopin.

  • @MultiPianoFreak - I'd be careful making that declaration. What if a God made music and also made Chopin? Regardless, Chopin is in my mind one of the most talented composers in the history of music - any and all music.

  • this is so beautiful and breath-taking

  • This movement is just so beautiful, it must be those lasting, warm chords.

  • one of the most diffiult too to play.

  • Meravigliosa!!!

  • One of the most beautiful pearls in the history of music.

    Yes.

  • I imagine myself in an 19th century European saloon with Chopin playing this.
