Tried the Super Tenere, very nice, try the Gs was fun, and a few mins later the GSA! Loved it& want it but dealer quote me $25K with 2 stock panners ( not even 3!)
As soon as I sell my HD Street Glide I will be ready. I'm not sure if I can wait or should for the Explorer. It looks like it will compete more w the GS than GSA !!!
I just want to see someone ride this through the dirt FFS. Im considering buying one but I also want to know about the ride height and wheel base. Im 6ft 7in so I need a huge bike. Will this fit the bit I WANT TO KNOW!!!
@wbwvids LOL, yes and no. I live on the east coast and I would want the bike mainly for the road/hwy, maybe some gravle roads at times. I would spend most of my time in cities like Washington, DC - NYC and Philly stuck in heavy traffic or squeezing through it. I like the adventure bikes and sport tourer or cruiser would not be practical. I'm guessing the Ducati might be the best fit for me, but the of the Triumph caught my eye.
@bonaytothebonay I like the shaft drive on the Explorer... But, I'm having way too much fun with my DR650, it proves to me that bigger isn't always better!
Bike certainly looks the part and with a 139hp it´s considerably more powerful than the GS. Key parameter as I see it is handling.
The GS is one of the easiest bikes to ride and handles like a dream in the twisties. If this one does as well I´m prepared to switch. If not I will pass.
BMW bought Triumph cars and not Triumph motorcycles, which are still two separated entities. Maybe BMW will also buy Triumph motorcycles if the Tiger 1200 has too much success...who knows?
@MrPaulo1400 jajaja! yes maybe they buy it!. I think that the big sleepers here are the Japanese manufacturers, that didn`t release a true dual sport bike like the africa twin was in its time. Don`t tell me that kawasaki can`t put a 21" wheel in front of the versys 650, i don`t know what they are waiting. As for me Bmw it`s the only intelligent here that still doing true all terrain bikes like the f 800 gs, the best in the world!!!!
@munaki33 I agree that BMW is the reference for all terrain bikes. But, I lately read a german bike brochure where a test about 5'500 km in the Alpes was made with a F800gs, triumph 800 xc, honda 700 and 650 yamaha. The test included normal road and off road. Guess what? Triumph won! I tried this bike and I must say it is more confortable that the 800 gs and more fun to ride. I am not trying to promote Triumph, I have a k 1300 r just to say.
@MrPaulo1400 Just to note, the Explorer is a 1200 cc shaft drive, not comparable to the regular Tiger of 800 cc and chain drive. Not sure why Triumph used the same name for both bikes, it is a bit confusing.
@wbwvids I know. but the point for me is that BM is counting too much on its reputation. I was hoping to have the gsa liquid cooled in 2012. I want to buy a trail enduro and I was not convinced by the actual gsa, the motor is missing hp. Triumph is now a serious challenger. I tried super tenere and not convinced. Don't even want to go to honda and kawasaki. It will be for me, Explorer 1200 or GSA liquid cooled, if I can wait until 2013...gonna be hard.
@MrPaulo1400 Not sure I'd bring any of these bigger bikes out on to a trail, probably too heavy. Maybe a KTM 990 Adventure? Still heavy though. I'll take my DR650!
@wbwvids me neither, but when you see waht people can do with these bikes, you wonder if the weight is really a limit. But with a lighter bike it would be even better
I read today that GS liquid cooled is not coming before 2013. Then Triumph has plenty of time to penetrate market with its Explorer. Can't wait to try it. I tried also GSA with new motor and I thought it was missing some few hp to be better, in my personal opinion of course. It is time BMW stops sleeping.
@wbwvids mmm... i don`t totally agree with that, i don`t believe that triumph has the muscle to develop a shaft drive like that as Bmw does is quite an expensive and long research compared with a chain drive, apart from that isn`t that Bmw bought triumph? Cheers friend!
If people can put up with the weight which at 259kg is porky at best then the bike should do fine. Looks like the 800 but fatter. Shaft drive is a nice addition and can only be an improvement over the BMW offering where the build quality has really suffered in recent years
Not sure if I will be able to wait for it...

@David6801 Wow, going from a Street Glide to an Adventure Tourer, that sounds radical! ;-)

Lets face it. No one buys a GS for the looks.

That shaft-drive is from Bmw design isn`t it?
munaki33 3 months ago
@munaki33 There's probably only so much they can do with a shaft drive, just like every chain drive looks pretty much the same I'm guessing...
