theres an easier way to remove the old background pictures. select all the black outlining the pictures with the magic wand, then hold shift and select the text that says grand theft auto, or whatever u want to select. then just hit ctrl+alt+I to invert the selection, and hit delete :)

I found i got the same problem. Make sure you have the background copy layer only and then use the magic wand and select the white bits where the pictures are meant to go and then press ctrl+x which cuts the bit out. It only works if the bits that were white then went checkered.THIS ONLY WORKS IF YOU HAVE THE BACKGROUND COPY LAYER.

The picture you are gonna use have to be beneath the background layer in the layers palette. If it is on top of you'll just have to drag it down beneath the background layer.
