I know gay marriage will be accepted throughout all 50 states, but it is going to take a long fight, one that will undoubtedly be won by the time the next generation takes office. Yes the issues of love and marriage are similar in same-sex versus polygamous marriage, but they are too different to be compared equally. The polygamy arguement is marriage between more than one wife. The real issue is marriage between heterosexual couples vs homosexual couples. The variable is gender. Gender vs number of wives are two completely different variables.

Yes it is when there are legal benefits and responsibilities. That said, the way to go about it is to separate church from state (now where have I heard that before?). The government should not recognize ANY religious ceremony but should instead offer the legal contract of marriage (or whatever you want to call it, as long as it's the same term for everyone) separate from religion.
