Note of interest here, he is quoting newsprint which is all owned, with the exception of independent interests and the National Post, by a couple of Liberal backbenchers.
I agree that at this point in Harper's time as PM that some stuff was being withheld, but it was no where near as bad as people launched it to the moon as.
@rider4343 We can't defend our borders with planes that fall out of the sky, either. And the whole prison issue is that we don't need them anywhere near as much as Harper claims we do.
@BoredomCorner the F35 is not finished the specs are not written in stone. As for communication in the north. The F-18 has to carry a communication pod under it, the F-35 will have a communication pod developed to fit in one of the bomb bays. Their are a lot more positive things about it then negative. Its just no one likes to report them...
@Baseshocks Oh PLEASE, then how come almost every other country that ordered the damn things, has changed their minds? Even the US doesn't want them anymore, and they made the bloody things.
@BoredomCorner they are still ordering them, Japan just made a commitment to order them. It also looks like the U.K and Australia are going to too. Do not always watch CBC. Read some reports off independent news reports. The range is the same as the F-18, out of all the years of Canada flying the F-18 they have had only one engine failure that resulted in a emergency landing. Jet engine reliability is far better now then when the F-18 was built.
@BoredomCorner The F-18 also needs to carry a communication pod, Canada will have one develped to carry in the bomb bay until the F35 systems upgrade is complete so it will not need the communication pod. Internal fuel tanks are also being developed to carry in the bomb bays to extend the range of the F35.
@Baseshocks And besides, you forgot that they don't have the range to work in the arctic, and only run on a single engine -- never a good thing in a combat plane!
The fact that they are building prisons kind of implies that they intend to fill them. As far as I have been able to determine, other than over crowding in the current jails, we don't have a whole bunch of people lined up to get into these new digs. So, the bill he has just submitted will take care of that. Fundementally speaking, this means that people who are currently NOT CRIMINALS will shortly be converted to criminals. It will be seamless, just like the gun bill. Nothing to worry about. :)
Sell the CBC .......NOW.......Let Liberal ballwashers like Rick get a real job.....He's been living off the taxpayer for decades now.How much do we taxpayers pay him??Nobody knows because the CBC does not release any information to the taxpayers they look down their noses at.......Now I know that we will all miss the new Degrassi High and it will be difficult to go a year without a new Road to Avonlea mini-series but considering we give them $1.1BILLION per year,I think we will get by.....
@russfromdodge These people have jobs, thank you. Oh, and CBC doesn't air Degrassi -- I know you don't like to learn what you're talking about, but if you try it once in a while, people won't think you're an idiot.
@BoredomCorner Yes,I know they have what they call jobs. They make me as a taxpayer pay for these corporate welfare jobs.I can't wait to see the end of the CBC and it will come.People are already tired of paying for the tripe they offer and when the books get opened well all hell is gonna break loose. Can't wait.....Merry Christmas pal!!Hope you get a razor from Santa and a new toque as well ;)
Rick for PM. He's right. But then, he's usually right when it comes to his political rants, and many of his rants in general. Rick Mercer - the voice of reason and truth in a political landscape covered up by lies, deceit, and cheap tactics that insult the people of Canada's intelligence.
@TheBairdo Let's hope not or we should know that traitors who are the government are still traitors. If the gov't wants to sell the country out or get it annexed, then it's treason and those in power must be held absolutely accountable.
@InexplicableHat Well I find such a name change unacceptable and would hope that the next government will look into this and see if there's anything illegal about putting one MP over an entire nation.
@InexplicableHat Technically its the C.R.A.P party: the conservative reform alliance party. They changed the name shortly after the merger, but thats what they are.
THE CONSERVATIVES ARE AN ALLIANCE EVANGELIST TRIBE THAT WILL CONTINUE TO WRECK THIS COUNTRY!! THANKS FOR BACKING A RELIGIOUS PARTY TO RUN OUR GREAT COUNTRY INTO SOME MORONIC IDEALISTIC SHITHOLE..
Anyone who actually threw their vote toward this IDIOCY will really scratch their collective heads & ask themselves.. "What the phuck did I just go and do?"
Harper is as SMUG a PHUCK as this world has to offer -I hope his EVANGELIST tirade will be brought to it's knees long before the next 4yrs..
@theshaneler Well no the Conservative are way better the increase the deficit so they can tax your children up their ass. That is way better don't you think?
@Zxceelxuz I would hope it never comes to that. A middle class is what makes any democracy function better. You can't pretend to identify with ordinary Canadians (which should mean all classes) while making it harder for any class to function, much less the middle class.
@theshaneler The last conservative government to actually succeed in balancing the budget was under Sir John A. MacDonald -- the very first Prime Minister of our nation. In contrast, the Liberals managed to do it right after Mr. Mulroney, a conservative PM, bungled our finances... and right before Mr. Harper came into office to try and do the same. Luckily Mr. Harper was unsuccessful in getting us embroiled in Iraq, or deregulating our banks right before the recession hit.
Case and point the fact that the Bloc got 49 seats but the Greens don't get a single one (even though the Bloc had 9.97% of the nationwide votes last election and the greens had 6.8%). This is purely because the Bloc's voters are concentrated in Quebec whereas the Greens are scattered throughout the country. (also just a note I don't necessarily support the green party or the bloc that's just an example).
@BoredomCorner strategic voting will not end until we ditch the rediculous and outdated first past the post system. The majority of Canadian votes do not count. If you are unfortunate enough to live in a riding where the majority of people vote for a party that you do not support your vote is essentially null and void. The seats given to parties do NOT reflect what Canadian voters want.
I'm not huge into politics but i know everyone should vote while our vote still counts... but don't vote conservative whatever you do. I know liberals are full of scandals in the past and there evil just like the rest, but conservative by comparison are the devil of any political party in Canada's history
@Bus7777 That won't necessarily get Harper out. If that's your goal you need to look up the results of previous elections for your riding and see who tends to be the winner and vote for them (unless it's the conservatives then you need to vote for whoever happens to be the next closest contender)
@woofende1 In my riding for the past few years, it's always been the Conservatives. If I call recall correctly, Liberals are second and the NDP are a close third.
What really sucks is that all of our choices are equally crappy. The politics is less about what is right for Canada and its people and more about getting enough votes to keep/get the top jobs. If the end result was that they were accountable to Canadians and actually considering costs and benefits for everyone instead of a few key supporters then maybe we could feel good about our government. Consider to source. RM is left wing media at its finest and is not objective at all. Kind of pissed that my tax dollars are spent to keep CBC and RM on the air. The conservatives cut funding to the CBC by almost 10% over the last few years so its no surprise you'll find little support for them on any CBC program. A Harper majority could mean the end of the public support for CBC and RM. For the record I am not in favour of funding the right wing Sun media either.
@MrTurboGeek Ya get rid of one of Canada's staple institutions....worst idea ever. Maybe CBC leans to the left because Canada is a predominately a liberal Country?? Classic Right vs. Left / Conservative vs. Liberal non-sense. how about who gives a shit....I'd rather pay for the CBC than un-needed prisons or fighter jets or G20 summits or an outrageous deficit or a un-winnable war or pay elected politicians to prorogue government. IDIOT.
@larrydallas187 i agree with the prisons but the fighter jets are more complicated, those numbers the opposition report are not the numbers Canada will pay it is the American numbers, Canada is only paying for the development of the A version where the U.S is paying for all 3 versions.. As for why the Harper government does not tell it the way it is which is not that bad i do not know.....
@BoredomCorner oh yes i forgot to add, the reason why the F-18 has a greater range is because of the 3 external fuel tanks it carrys while on patrol. the F-35 in non stealth mode can carry two external fuel tanks along side the 2 in the bomb bays.
@Baseshocks The airframe is unlikely to last through the required lifespan.
The flight test program has yet to explore the most challenging areas. The software development is behind schedule.
The aircraft is in danger of going overweight or, for the F-35B, too nose-heavy for VTOL operations. There are multiple thermal management problems. The air conditioner fails to keep the pilot and controls cool enough, the roll posts on the F-35B overheat, and using the afterburner damages the aircraft.
The automated logistics system does not work properly.
And the lightning protection on the F-35 Lightning II is uncertified, with areas of concern. In December 2011 the Pentagon and Lockheed came to an agreement to assure funding and delivery for a fifth order of early F-35 aircraft of yet undefined type in spite of general national austerity measures affecting the program. ...all from wikileaks. so no one has these planes working the way you've tried to tell us they are.
@Baseshocks Main article: McDonnell Douglas CF-18 Hornet
Canada was the first export customer for the Hornet, replacing the CF-104 Starfighter (air reconnaissance & strike), the McDonnell CF-101 Voodoo (air interception) and the CF-116 Freedom Fighter (ground attack). The Canadian Forces Air Command ordered 98 A models (Canadian designation CF-188A/CF-18A) and 40 B models (designation CF-188B/CF-18B).
@Jethromcsheepherder Like i said before, the F-35 is still in development. We will see what the end result will be when its complete. Until then i am hoping it turns out well as does the government. They still have not signed the contract to buy them, they are waiting for the end result but i am sure it will work out well.
@Baseshocks In 1991, Canada committed 26 CF-18s to the Gulf War, based in Qatar. In June 1999, 18 CF-18s were deployed to Aviano AB, Italy, where they participated in both the air-to-ground and air-to-air roles in the former Yugoslavia. 62 CF-18A and 18 CF-18B aircraft took part in the Incremental Modernization Project which was completed in two phases. The program was launched in 2001 and the last updated aircraft was delivered in March 2010.
@Baseshocks The aims were to improve air-to-air and air-to-ground combat abilities, upgrade sensors and the defensive suite, and replace the datalinks and communications systems on board the CF-18 from the F/A-18A and F/A-18B standard to the current F/A-18C and D standard. In July 2010 the Canadian government announced plans to replace the remaining CF-18 fleet with 65 F-35 Lightning IIs, with deliveries scheduled to start in 2016....hope this info helps?
@MrTurboGeek RM is an entertainer, who happens to notice that all of the parties right now are crap -- but that Harper is our version of Nixon. You don't have to be left wing to see that, you just need a brain (BTW Mercer doesn't like the NDP either, so that really torpedoes your rant).
Love this man! Harper is trying to take Canada down into a NWO, but Canadians are not buying it, and a revolution is starting to swell. Looking forward to it...
We must vote strategically - we can not split the vote!
It was Jack Layton's ego that put us in this mess when he failed to support Paul Martin. And now he's attempting to be the"big man' again in cosying up to Harper. What is he thinking??
Great rant, but I must say that democracy is a sham. It doesn't exist. You vote them in they do what THEY want. For true democracy you would vote on ideas and actual policy, not corruptable people that must follow the party line. Until we do away with this corrupt and corruptable system of selecting so called leaders we will forever be ranting about their lies and backstabbing. /rant

I've never liked Mercer but he's dead on. The Harper admin/aka Conservatives have done more harm to Canada than any other politician I can think of. He's definitely moving us in the wrong direction. We need another election!
I used to be a Liberal...but I've lost faith. And I never had any faith in Conservatives to begin with--this goes to show why. What am I supposed to do?!
@SRJ2709 Hold your nose and vote for the candidate in your riding most likely to defeat the Conservative candidate. If we do too much vote splitting, Harper will win and take that as a mandate to carry on doing what he has been doing... only worse.
Vote NDP or Green please. They are the only other choices we have. I don't claim either party could run our country perfect. I merely hope that we can move votes from the Cons and Libs to smaller parties. The more representation Canadians have the better.
vote NDP in Sarnia-Lambton. End the lies, and end a government who allows asbestos to be exported to developing countries, yet bans it here, all for the sake of votes in Quebec. Vote for a party willing to stand up and talk about what's on the mind's of ordinary Canadians.
Wow, it's actually rare for Rick to be this into a rant, but honestly it's needed. Between the conservatives finance transparency and the whole Bev Oda fiasco this government has become the punchline of an inappropriate joke. I truly regret voting for the conservatives in the first place.

@blisspheme at least the conservatives don't tax you into bankruptcy (NDP) or given millions.billions to companies that support their party (liberal). I'll take a little misleading over having no money in my pocket anyday
@dezza2001 Wow, did you hear what you just said? Further, conservatives are the ones giving tax cuts...to corporations! Guess how much of that money goes into your pocket?
@dezza2001 And that's why -- under Harper -- we have the biggest deficit in Canadian history, and the middle-class is almost totally gone, right?
In any case, if you really care more about having a couple of extra bucks, then the fact that our PM is a lying dictator, then walk into a Legion and let the vets smack you upside the head. They didn't risk their butts for you to be a lazy and ignorant quack.
@dezza2001 shame on you, really, shame on Harper and Oda and you ~ you are entitled to your beliefs and I defend your right to say them, but the outcome of 'misleading' is deceit and you would support that to have a few bucks in your pocket. This is the CON mentality and it is wrong!
@blisspheme Thank you for your post. I was getting a little worried that perhaps all people who voted conservative were staying the course with this PM. Thanks for giving me hope that all don't.
@blisspheme Hey, no problem. We can all vote for an MP from any other party come election day May 2nd. That's the one benefit of our democracy: you regret voting for the conservatives, so you can vote someone else who can change the current situation.

Baseshocks 2 months ago
@Baseshocks Maybe because it's a lot worse than you're under the delusion it is.
BoredomCorner 2 months ago
@BoredomCorner oh yes i forgot to add, the reason why the F-18 has a greater range is because of the 3 external fuel tanks it carrys while on patrol. the F-35 in non stealth mode can carry two external fuel tanks along side the 2 in the bomb bays.
Baseshocks 2 months ago
@Baseshocks In November 2011, a Pentagon study team found the following 13 areas of concern remained to be addressed in the F-35:
The Helmet mounted display system does not work properly.
The fuel dump subsystem poses a fire hazard.
The Integrated Power Package is unreliable and difficult to service.
The F-35C's arresting hook does not work. There are classified "survivability issues", which have been speculated to be about stealth.
The wing buffet is worse than previously reported.
Jethromcsheepherder 1 month ago
@Baseshocks The airframe is unlikely to last through the required lifespan.
The flight test program has yet to explore the most challenging areas. The software development is behind schedule.
The aircraft is in danger of going overweight or, for the F-35B, too nose-heavy for VTOL operations. There are multiple thermal management problems. The air conditioner fails to keep the pilot and controls cool enough, the roll posts on the F-35B overheat, and using the afterburner damages the aircraft.
Jethromcsheepherder 1 month ago
@Baseshocks
Jethromcsheepherder 1 month ago
@Baseshocks But you're right about the F18 being better though. But from what I understand, that wasn't on our menu and we didn't order those.
Jethromcsheepherder 1 month ago
@Baseshocks Main article: McDonnell Douglas CF-18 Hornet
Canada was the first export customer for the Hornet, replacing the CF-104 Starfighter (air reconnaissance & strike), the McDonnell CF-101 Voodoo (air interception) and the CF-116 Freedom Fighter (ground attack). The Canadian Forces Air Command ordered 98 A models (Canadian designation CF-188A/CF-18A) and 40 B models (designation CF-188B/CF-18B).
Jethromcsheepherder 1 month ago

BoredomCorner 1 year ago
Love this man! Harper is trying to take Canada down into a NWO, but Canadians are not buying it, and a revolution is starting to swell. Looking forward to it...

Come on.. Tell the whole story, This is not normal government lies!
Harper the Traitor, signed a deal with Obama to use each others troops in the event of a civil emergency's.
GOOGLE This... canada us agree to use each others troops
Screw you Rick Mercer for downplaying this, as normal 5th term government!

@Can101276 Fifth YEAR, you putz. And besides, as bad as the NAU-style agreement is, it has nothing to do with this issue.

/rant

I can't believe Ignatieff, Layton and Duceppe have not got round to tabling a vote of no confidence in the Harper Govt.
What's keeping them?!
Surely the Bev Oda debacle has to be the straw that broke the camel's back?

@MrBSergeant Hell they should have thrown Harper out a year ago, over the torture issue.

*Sigh* Canadian Politics.

@blisspheme The left-right paradigm is smoke and mirrors. ALL promoted parties are pro-Globalist, Fascist,
and far from working for the people. Its all about the revolving doors of the Corporate/Political agenda.

@blisspheme at least the conservatives don't tax you into bankruptcy (NDP) or given millions.billions to companies that support their party (liberal). I'll take a little misleading over having no money in my pocket anyday
dezza2001 1 year ago
@dezza2001 Wow, did you hear what you just said? Further, conservatives are the ones giving tax cuts...to corporations! Guess how much of that money goes into your pocket?
0katieface0 1 year ago 4
@dezza2001 And that's why -- under Harper -- we have the biggest deficit in Canadian history, and the middle-class is almost totally gone, right?
In any case, if you really care more about having a couple of extra bucks, then the fact that our PM is a lying dictator, then walk into a Legion and let the vets smack you upside the head. They didn't risk their butts for you to be a lazy and ignorant quack.
BoredomCorner 1 year ago 4
@dezza2001 shame on you, really, shame on Harper and Oda and you ~ you are entitled to your beliefs and I defend your right to say them, but the outcome of 'misleading' is deceit and you would support that to have a few bucks in your pocket. This is the CON mentality and it is wrong!
17moon7 1 year ago 4
@blisspheme Thank you for your post. I was getting a little worried that perhaps all people who voted conservative were staying the course with this PM. Thanks for giving me hope that all don't.

@blisspheme Hey, no problem. We can all vote for an MP from any other party come election day May 2nd. That's the one benefit of our democracy: you regret voting for the conservatives, so you can vote someone else who can change the current situation.
