He is a master percussionist, and he is actually moving so fast that the camera doesn't pick it all up as well as a more professional camera might. So it looks a bit blurry- not because he is speeding up the tape, but because he is just so fast.

I like the groove he goes into around 2:10. I think this is actually the best part of the whole solo. I have a lot of respect for his speed, agility, and handling of the congas but I would like to hear more groove and pattern and less flashiness. Flashiness has its place but it gets hard to listen to after a while.

I was fortunate to have studied with Gio back at Berklee in the early 90's when he first moved to the states and yeah, his hands are like the perfect implement for striking a conga. Of course all the callouses (talk about lots of table-top playing or playing on solid wooden surface) but also his fingers just kind of all meet at the tip and well.. its pretty wild the amazing tone he gets from just even just dropping his hand from an inch above the head.
