Lord Buddha was born in ancient India (present day Nepal). All the History books point to the same facts. If we try to change the facts of the History, we lose our credibility.
Monks all over the world are teaching the same fact that Buddha was born in India. If we cling on to this trivial matter, we're creating problems for ourselves and hence a hindrances for our enlightenment.

G.P Singh wrote, the kingdoms beyond Aryavarta(India) means the Himalayan region. In ancient Hindu scriptures, the Himalayan region extending from Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Nepal Assam and Tripura was referred as the Kirat Desh or the Land of Kirats. Still today one can find mon khmer Kirat people in Himachal Pradesh.(The Kiratas in Ancient India, 1990)
FYI, the term "Nepal" only came to exist from 4th BCE.

dear kckrishna, in those time Nepal was called "Kiratdesa". The term "Nepal" only starts from 4th century BC.
During the Buddha period, there were many tribes ruling the various region. Shakya tribe(whom Buddha was born into) was ruling the Kapilavastu region.
During the Gupta Empire, many tribes were were rounded up and Sanskritize to form One Nation-->Bharat(India), with One language Hindi.
But Kiratdesa(Nepal) has always been a sovereign nation. Plz do research before writing nonsense.

@kckrishna Buddha was born in Nepal. He came to Kathmandu valley during King Jitedasti. King Jitedasti was a 7th King from Kirat dynasty. And yeah Ashoka never ruled Nepal because Kirat at that time were very strong. Kirat only succumbed to Licchavis in around 330AD during King Gasti who was 29th Kirat King.
