  • My Fridge: 4 blocks raw feta, organic no-sulfite chardonnay, 7 avocados, dozen free-range organic eggs, safflower oil, 12 organic garlic bulbs, raw chilis...looks like a contrast girly!!! Your Fridge: good grief!!! Bravo!!! ...For me and me alone that's renunciation: I have to party! ;-)

  • Thanks for the tip. I had 6 pineapples so I lined them up in a dish rack, which worked perfectly. It seems my jicama gets slimy in the fridge. Not sure yet what will happen on the counter. I guess I should eat it before anything happens. :)

    I thought that there would be less calories in nut milk, but it makes sense now that you'd only lose the fiber and not the fat calories. Bummer, that sucks because I love nut milk and I feel like they give me a lot of nutrients. Maybe there's a way for me to keep them in on 811 if I make that like my fat for the day?

    Also, I'm curious if there's certain types of fruits or meals to eat at certain times during the day and if he talks about food combining at all?

  • I think as long as you eat enough food that is low in fat, you an still have a bit of nut mylk, but even a little will increase your fat quite a bit. I have been tracking my food intake on fitday. I don't know how accurate their database is, but even 1 tbsp of oil puts me over 10% for the day. Regarding food combining, he says have as much fruit as you can eat, followed by as many veggies and greens as you care for.

  • Funny! I had a dog (Dalmation) that would eat anything. We couldn't even have a garden b/c he would eat from it when tomatoes, bell peppers, figs would start to get ripe. His favorite was watermelon rhinds. We didn't notice any difference in his digestion b/c his original diet was socks, dry wall, anything that couldn't get away, anything but dog food really. You might consider raised vegetable beds. Easier on you, harder on the dog. Raw gives great compost doesn't it? another perk LOL

  • Alexis you know the fastest way to ripen your avocado and mangoes is to wrap them individually in news paper and put them in a box giving them as little oxygen as possible.

  • thanks for the tip. I actually try to let them ripen as slow as possible because I get so many at a time. I will keep that in mind though for when I need them faster. :)

  • Oh yeah thats true. Me on the other hand have no self control when it comes to mangoes and avocadoes :) So I do expect to gain some weight in another couple of months :)

  • On 80/10/10 I can eat as many mangos as I want without worry, but the avocados are another story. I limit myself to half or one a day. I mash it into my kale salad, along with diced mango to make a creamy salad dressing. (I'm getting hungry thinking about it!). I know that eating more than that will easily put me over 10% fat, even if I eat no other overt fats, but I prefer the avocado to oils because at least it's a whole food. I didn't gain weight on high fat raw vegan diet though.

  • Also, one more thing, if it's not too much to ask of you:

    What's the basic guidelines of 80/10/10?

    Like what are you supposed to eat during the day in what order?

  • You eat mostly fruit and veggies (fresh, raw, ripe, organic), and greens. Best to eat fruit first, until you are satisfied, then eat veggies until satisfaction. To stay under 10% fat and 10% protein, you will want to avoid "overt fats" like oils, nuts and fatty fruits like avocado. You can eat them, but be sure to limit them because most fruits and veggies already have about 6-8% fat and 6-8% protein without adding extra fat.     I have a question for you. Actually it's a two-parter and I haven't heard it discussed so I don't know if anyone has an answer. But you do have 80/10/10 book so I'll give it a shot.

    1. Where does nut milk stand in the 811 diet? I'd like to give it a go, but I don't want to give up nut milk.

    2. Do you have any idea how many calories are in nutmilk? does the process take out some fat and calories, or is it the same?

  • Thanks you. We bought the fridge a few years ago, but it is so cheaply made, all the shelves and racks break. It keeps things cold though so I'm not complaining. :) I didn't see anything about nut mylk in the book. I would guess that depending on how it is made, the only part of the nut you are taking out is the fiber, so that probably leaves just fat. Water has no calories, so what you would end up with is probably 100% fat based on calories (not volume). 811 bases it on "caloronutrient" ratio

  • Alexis that was soooo awesome! Thank you so much on the tip on removing the elastic bands from the green bunches, Like DUH! Why didn't I think of that before. I can relate to the compost & dogs with digestive disturbances. We now have a wire fence (the green vinyl covered kind for gardens) around our compost piles. Maya likes papaya which she inhales with glee and then pukes up later. Papaya Pug Puke is Pretty Gnarly!

  • eeew. I have a little wire fence around my pile too, but it doesn't do much to keep her out. She gets run-around-farts. :)

    I just figured out that removing the bands helps make greens last longer. Seems like the first place they get slimy is near the band.
