  • I only watched one episode of this, by accident, when staying over someone else's house way back. Saw the episode with *spoiler* a girl just standing there, and then um. Not being there anymore. I'll never forget that.

  • Just finished watching Blue Gender on Netflix...it was really good! Kind of a weak ending (won't spoil it) The opening song does NOT match the opening intro, BUT I think it's an awesome song anyway!

  • I should play this when fighting a boss from lost planet 2.

  • Wow I haven't seen this ins long while

  • this has been my favorite anime for a long tie now nothing i have seen now a days can even compare.

  • Starcraft Terran Campaign The Anime

  • @Mudanes lol right!

  • I just realized that this 12 years old, you know how everyone became a bunch of self serving sex fiends in the future, guess what were turning into?

OMG IT'S COMING TRUE, 3 YEARS LEFT!!!

  • Why can't we have more animation has epic has this???

All there is just "cute" weaboo crap full of female characters with large eyes.

  • is there a full song of it in english

  • Things I liked about BG.

Alot of renowned voice actors, a lot are from Dragonballz and Neon Genesis Evangelion.

This show is in a lot of ways like Evangelion.

This show was real, fucking BG don't give a shit everyone swears like sailors and are openly ready to do it on camera and they do a few times. A lot of tits fly in this series.

Fucking realistic gore: I may be fucked up but if you catch what happens in war for real it adds to the realism. People get cut in half there isn't a tiny pudd

  • Didn't the dude who made this series also make armored trooper votoms

  • Why does he think of cabbage while sitting in his suit?

  • @funkmflex because its all of the other people who didnt make it & ended being the blues food.

  • @MezzoForteAnonymousX Thank you..and I love Mezzo Forte =D

  • @SeiferXJ9 No problem!.

  • what is this song?? im trying to find it

  • @SeiferXJ9 Songs name is Tokihanate.

I have no idea if a official english dub of the whole song was ever made.

  • This makes me want to watch the series all over again!

    <3 this!

  • I really wish there was a full version of this

  • my number 3 anime

No over complicated outter space battle dont get me wrong i love gundam but the plots were confusing this series had a simlpe plot...not chakra or zanpaktos just regular humans that are constantly dropping like flies and the ending was perfect

  • @DarkDevilDante1 what's your #1 and #2?

  • @ThinkLearnSolve Hmmmmm 2nd is a tie between S-Cry-ed and gurren laggan...and my number one has to be G Gundam(best series ever it actually made me cry at one point)

  • @DarkDevilDante1 wow you thought this was simple? thats funny cause this was the closest thing ive seen to what might actually happen when we hit the max limit of humans trying to live on planet earth. The earth makes its own pesticide. not that it already has (HIV). idk maybe im lookin TOO much into it lol.

  • truly, a fucking classic

  • the song is the english version of Tokihanate

  • Fuck you!!! New adultswim. Btw song name???

  • This is the kind of anime that i really like

There should be more like this.

  • Comment removed

  • I was just a little girl when I watched this on adult swim back in the day, and it always made me feel like such a badass! Damn, gotta love nostalgia. :)

  • Whenever I watched this anime, the opening was always an instrumental...

  • this use to be on adult swim also trigun, i use to watch them all the time, but adult swim took them off, they hate anime :(

  • Does anyone know of the other opening? i swear there was another one like toward the middle of the season, it had the tanks and that weird guy from space shown

  • @beautifullychaos srry this is the only opening. apart from the japanese one which is the same thing but the song is in japanese.

  • Man, this show was awesome back in the day. :3

  • this anime was metal

  • I remember first hearing this song when I saw this anime in the previews preceeding the STH movie. I looked this show up and this Is what I found.

  • At 0:49 Terminator?

  • is the a full verson of this in english please if not tell me

  • Good song. Now I wonder who copy who. Did Blue seed copy Blue Gender? Or did Blue Gender copy Blue Seed?

  • ah I Love this Theme... aside from the Duke charcter in the first 3 episodes... its probably the only good thing that came from Blue Gender.... it says something when if you remove the main charcter the biggest change of events in the story is the space station blows up a few weeks earlier....

  • best anime of all time

  • Starship troopers+aliens+anime=blue gender

  • @Addiskrilla ...............Blue gender = EPIC, sry but it seems you forgot that part. :D

  • @Addiskrilla you dont need the plus aliens, starship troopers had aliens ,though blue gender didnt have aliens anyways

  • @Addiskrilla + Gundam?

  • They don't make anime like this anymore.

  • @TheOrangesun12

    They sure don't.

  • @TheOrangesun12 yeah....... its all action these days, with kamehamehas and big swords, but we have naruto shipp to remind us that there is good in all genres.

  • This anime went from being a rare gem in the beginning of the series to being utter trash right through the later half. Yuji Kaido was one of the most annoying characters I've seen in an anime, I only liked him the few episodes before they went up to 2nd earth for the first time.

On the contrary, I really liked Marlene, and its pretty painful to watch all she has to go through for that annoying Yuji

Also the animation could had been better made, although I appreciate the gore and the story

  • @Millenx,

I agree. They lost the epic feel along the way, and they shouldn't have. Other than the intro song, the rest of the music was plodding, and so was much of the plot. The concept was great, though. I would have made their main big base on Earth, instead of on a space station. Also, that B-cell thing was a little weak. They should have made it the result of bio-warfare experiments or even an alien invasion or accidental unleashing of something due to excavation. Needed mech-vs-bug brawls.

  • @Millenx First off, this anime is old..And I mean mega old. So don't say crap about it, and besides, Yuji....After they went to 2nd Earth the only time I really liked him was in the last few episodes...

  • @Millenx o contrare, yuji is an epic badass main character. unlike other fags who stay the same whiny, pacifistic person they were the entire time, i liked how yuji matured and actually DECIDED to fight on his own, and did it rather successfully. I also enjoyed the love between Marlene and Yuji, and the fact that neither of them died was also a plus.

  • Adult Swim WHY????????????

  • @Smokey784 I disagree. A continuation would ruin what already is a great anime. Leaving the ending open is what makes the ending so memorable.

  • Great anime, one of my favorites. I still cry when I see the episode where the young girl dies.

  • @AlexanderRavencraft i knida loled at first, i mean, all of a sudden a foot comes down and shes gone.......then later, when yuji reflects on this, i got sad. :-(

  • I went into the studio in under 2 hours and recorded just what they wanted for the opener. I never received royalties or credits as I had to sign my life away on the deal....made $300 bucks, that's it ;0(

  • @zuzupeddals

    damn :(

  • Daphne Gere recorded all other Blue gender songs. My best friend, Stephanie Nadolny, who is the voice of "Gohan" and "Goku" as well as many others on Dragonball Z was discovered by the company, then they asked me to record the song. We were both professional singers with Vince Vance & the Valiants for 10 years back in 1991-2001.

  • @zuzupeddals

ALSO, if true, did you ever sing the song full? I can't find it

  • @zuzupeddals

Really? last I checked the artist was Laura Bailey.

  • @terminaldogma667 Laura Bailey did the voice for Marlene Angel, not the opening song.

  • My name is Brand Evans Busby and that is me singing the Blue Gender English version called "Break Free". Barry Watson who is president and CEO of Illumitoon Entertainment was formerly a producer and voice director for FUNimation Entertainment which is who I recorded it with back in 2000. I am the vocalist you hear on this song.

  • @zuzupeddals If true...wow

  • @Smokey784

I Hate When People Talk Like This And Capitalize Every First Letter Its Annoying To Read Since Every Word Feels Like The Beginning Of A Sentence Or An Important Word So When Read Is Read Has Too Much Emphasis And Hard To Read, Along WIth A Strain On The Eyes

  • Yeah, I Agree I Feel That There Is Something Empty Although I Love The Show I Feel That There Should Been A Season 2

  • Where is the full english opening -.-

  • @Emil246 There isn't one. When an anime theme song is remade into English, they don't pay for record rights, and thus, are only able to remake what's in the show itself.

  • Cant believe its been so long watching this. Used to sneek downstairs, stay up late on a school night just to watch this.

    Good times.

  • I prefer this opening over the japanese one, this one sounds so RAW! while the japanese one is too light and bubbly which dosen't fit given the tone of the show.

  • is their a full version of this song? cuse i cant find one anywhere?

  • One of the best anime series ever made. Each episode is memorable and adds to what the blue are 'til the end.

  • What other voice roles has Laura Bailey done? Any characters I'd know?

  • @theLastKnight70 Off the top of my head she did the voice of BloodRayne in both games...I noticed it myself, she has a fairly distinct voice.

  • @theLastKnight70 She voiced Rayne in the BloodRayne games, as was stated by Kacen. She also voiced Henrieta in Gunslinger Girl and Oboro in Basilisk, both of which are great animes. I highly recommend them if you've yet to see them.

  • @AlexanderRavencraft Ive heard those are both great animes i just havent had the time to really look into it but i will defintely check them out now XD

  • Truth be told, Blue Gender easily takes it's place in my top 5 favorite animes. I just fell in love with it. Especially Marlene :3 Laura Bailey was just awesome in with her.

  • This is one of my favorite animes.

I love everything about this series, the romance, the ending, the horror, the mecha, everything...

  • who sings the english version of blue gender opening

  • Her name is Laura Bailey, the english voice actor for Marlene in the show.

  • Laura Bailey I would think, seeing as how she voices Marlene, who is voiced by Houko Kuwashima in the japanese version, which she also sang the music for.

kind of easy to connect these dots when you are dealing with FUNimation on this matter, they do this a lot.

  • Grrr i wish they would have mad this series longer or some sort of squeal :( seems to little of a good anime

  • it did the 2 seasons ,26 episodes format

cowboy bebop, outlaw star, and trigun all did the same. 26 is like a magic number in animes

there is a movie but its just the show condensed into 90 minutes, no new stuff though

  • i want a link so i can download this song since i can't find it

  • lolololol i luv this song and anime i likee were sh says 'come on baby set me free' while the guy is shooting

  • this opening kicks ass

  • Man...I love this song. It gives me goosebumps! I love Blue Gender!

  • My name is Brand Evans Busby and that is me singing the Blue gender english version called "Break Free". Barry Watson who is president and CEO of Illumitoon Entertainment was formerly a producer and voice director for FUNimation Entertainment which is who I recorded it with back in 2000. I am the vocalist you hear on this song,

  • Really good voice

  • could you upload a video of you singing it? i would really appreciate it! place the lyrics too if it isn't too much of a hassle. thanks. great voice by the way!

  • gotta love this series

  • yup.... you can download the torrent.. im not saying i did it, but yea

  • yeah, i know. not saying i have either xD

  • idk this but in the lyrics people put displaying memories of happiness, but i hear erasing memories of happiness. which 1 is right

  • i'm not entirely sure, but i think subtitles for anime songs are translations of the japanese words in the songs. sometimes the words get changed to fit in better with the song, or the songs get completely replaced for the english translations. but the difference between displayed and erased... maybe some people just don't listen as carefully as us lol

  • its "erasing memories of happiness"....at least according to every lyrics site i've been to, also, this opening is awesome

  • I own the original Blue Gender DVDs (I say original because I'm not sure if FUNi has reissued them or not, hope you get the idea), and when I hit the subtitles for this when it was english audio, I got these english lyrics, not a simple translation of the original Japanese lyrics (unless you were playing the original version). The subs said, "displacing memories of happiness" though it does sound more like erasing. I'm not sure if there's a story involved, but that's what I've got.

  • @akdoVdnaniG hi do you know who sing the english version opening of blue gender

  • Jesus, all the English versions are cut off at the last few seconds, but this is still awesome.

  • For my heartbeat!

Taking up in the arms of faith

With the strength of conviction and the hope of dreams

The power that makes what was lost seem like something worth keeping alive.

  • Lyrics: This is lonliness Displaying memories of happiness. I look over all that's left, And despair is what I find. I grow weary of this fear That causes a tear in my very soul. I don't want to be afraid Of what lies ahead. I don't know, Hear my voice. Set me free now! Come on hear me baby set me free Distant lands call forward in time to me. Break through the blinds of the darkness to the sublime.
  • and your able to mount more kinds of weapons on ashrike than on a tank.

  • Does anyone know if there's a full English version and where I could find it?

  • the wing Zero or the Epyon can kick all there ass's 100x over and still have time to kill somethen els

  • The problem being that the missiles in the Blue universe doesn't move at the speed of smell like it does in the Gundam universes.

  • You know an anime is good when just two of the main characters survive to the end.

  • ((*spoiler* and question)) why is it that after DR. myagi (the guy with sun glasses and black beard) at the end he won the fight with the cousil but then why does his soilders go crazy for some reason and kill him and kill themselves and blow up the space station.

  • Awesome intro song.

  • I really like this show. I saw the whole series on [Adult Swim] but would like to see it uncut. I've been meaning to buy the box set, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

  • excellent anime, i really like the opening to this show.

  • Blue Gender FTW.

  • This is one of the best-written, and harshest animes ever.

A concrete plot, with expert animation for it's time.

One of the greatest animes ever...

  • it was good...sex scenes caught me by surprised though! haha

  • this reminds me of "Roughnecks Starship Troopers Chronicles" but made by Japanese people.

  • The English and Japanese openings aren't all that different. They use the same tune, the English version even includes the gratuitous English in the original version.

Ah, I wish Adult Swim would play this again...

  • I like Blue Gender but in my opinion they shouldn't of had armor shrikes. Just used a cookie cutter formula and decided mechs are cool. They should have stuck with buggies and tanks and stuff.

  • without the shrikes then they would lose the battle. tanks and buggies are not that maneuverable in theory . also the shrikes are like super soldiers like halo spartans. this is like starship troopers and halo mixed. btw this song rocks

  • Desert Jump buggies with Light Cannons(20mm)? Go 80mph on bad terrain. Run circles through them ^.^. As for tanks you bombard them at distance with self-propelled howitzers(180mm). Or you could just nuke them from orbit. But there would be no show :/. Marlene needs to be naked more. And less of a bitch. Yuji is a tool in the beginning. Someone please message me some good anime shows. I ran out.

  • point taken. but sometimes it will take more than explosions to kill them

  • Indeed. That is the show, just saying how retarded some things are. Like zombie movies where everybody panics when they walk slow or when they run and you are in a car. Could have just ran the little pricks over ya know?

  • tanks have a big punch but they're slow and have poor aim and buggies may be fast but don't have a big enough punch so they're ineffective against the blue when one shot from an armor shrike tears a new hole in almost any blue and can climb better and are more agile and have better stealth

  • How would tanks have bad aim? Armor shrikes are basically tanks with limbs. Put a laser designator on a tank gun and you have accurate fire. The current Abrams tank is very accurate and can reload quickly. Not to mention the other guns on a tank. Also we are comparing a fictional item vs a real life item. If the tanks development was along side an armor shrike you would have a bad ass tank that surpasses the Abrams in every aspect. Plus I just hate the idea of using a top heavy mech

  • it's not the reload speed i care about it's how fast the tank can turn and move while firing it's cannon and it's height is small so i tank can't defeat an Armor shrike in my ideals

  • An abrams tank can go 30-40 miles an hour and have nearly pinpoint accuracy while driving that fast, with the turret spinning.

I think the Shrikes major strength lies in their ability to jump. Most of the damage they do with those blades is done coming down from a jump.

  • you forget that it's like fighting a dog when you're in a shrike. Tanks=nothing compared to the shrikes, w/o jumping shrikes can climb if needed and are better when something gets to close. doubt a turret can pierce a blue's 5 foot thick shell

  • A normal HE shell would send enough shrapnel into the cockpit of a shrike to disable the pilot. It doesn't even have to be close, in famous case of a news reporter dying from flying shrapnel he was a few hundred feet away witnessing the explosion.

I don't think shrikes would do very well against a tank, because they are not designed to fight something that can shoot, they're relatively unarmored. Whereas a tank is, but they won't perform as well against targets in urban areas.

  • Tanks still=nothing compared to an armor Shrike. They need machines that are quick, agile, and don't waste time on the battlefield an easy to mass produce more than a piece of shit tank

  • You haven't really given an argument about why shrikes would beat tanks, all you've said is that they are shit, and the mas production part is irrelevant since we don't know their production numbers.

The Shrikes don't seem very quick or agile to me (clever camera and backdrop positions made the look that way most likely). They seemed to be designed for tight city combat where it's advantageous to put a gun where tanks can't reach, not to fight a heavily armored and armed tank.

  • well if you look at the trailer, the weapon that the shrike has seems to match the power of a tank's main gun and is full auto to boot. face to face I'd give the edge to the shrike but an experienced tank crew wouldn't take that chance.

  • I'm going to posit that comparing technology and armaments is a little pointless, as the relatively more stable platform of the tank would allow it to mount a bigger gun if given the same tech. The fighting doctrines and essential designs is what we should look at when comparing to two, I think.

The shrikes were designed primarily to fight in urban areas as the blue are most prominent there. (cont.)

  • (cont.) The shrikes are marvelous in places like built up urban areas where a tank just isn't maneuverable enough to be able to manuever in tight corridors, alleyways, and inside buildings as well as them.

In a face to face confrontation however, the tank is going to hold a major advantage, assuming it doesn't take place in tight urban areas, the tank is designed to take out armored targets at great ranges, and since there's a dedicated gunman it's likely going to be more accurate too.

  • an abrams tank may not in be all that good in super tight urban streets but it will win, it has a 120mm main gun and can also have a mini gun insteds of the 50 and go about 32mph off road and still aim and fire with about 98% hit ratio one hit and the stiker would be gone and

  • the mini gun can pierce anything and a tank is just more economical the only reason they probably dont use them as much it because ther too big for outer space and can fit inside buildings like the stiker does like in ep1 its inside a hallway and theres no way a tank could do that with out breaking everything and a tank is louder maybe

  • the minigun is an anti-personnel weapon that is usually mounted on fast moving vehicles like helicopters. It is not used for destroying tank armor. you are thinking of a browning m2 which is for light vehicles like jeeps or knocking down enemy cover.

  • I agree with pyro shrikes look awesomely fast and are able to beat a tank

  • thank you. Most bugs hide underground and i bet that tank would get back up if it was attacked underground and it was flipped over. It's be as harmful as a turtle on it's back. An Amror shrike would get up and brush it off.

  • yup

  • And if you were clearing a bug nest and the only way to do was to clear it by imploding the nest you'd be screwed in a tank

  • ud be dead withing 5 min they slow

  • not if it's a light armor tank b/c they can move pretty fast but in close corters they're useless

  • no a tank can easily win against a Shrike manly the shrikes gun is weaker than a 105mm cannon and a tank has a lot of armor to protect it from OTHER tanks with big guns a single hit from the tank to the shriker would disable it shrikes are a hell of a lot better in urban combat thats why they use them and the abram tank isnt really slow it can go like 35mph off road but it just isnt that great in urban environments cus its way to big

  • who said a shrike could win against a tank? My point is an armor shrike is better for this type of combat. When you're driving a tank and a flyer jumps on the hood of your tank and tears it apart then traps you inside like a waitress at a sonic for an easy fast food lunch

  • I met the lady who sings this song today and she told me to look it up. xDDD Awesomeness.

  • who sung this song in english because she is a great singer . my favorite anime opening thanks for posting!

  • one of the few series in my opinion that were translated to English that actualy worked out

  • English > Japanese

this time around, the op is amazing

  • Agreed.

  • THIS WAS BEING ON ADULT SWIM

  • who sings this?

  • Brandi Evans Busby sings the English Opening, and Daphne sings the English Closing

  • This is most definitely my favorite series, and a great opening theme!

  • Great Series, I really liked how it reminded me of how anime used to be done. Old Skool!!

  • this show was my favorite and still is. but one thing i still want to know is who created the openin song in english.

  • its kind of a mystery, but i got to say its very good translation.

  • I must say one thing i always liked about this show was the sheer randomness of who dies and when. I can't stand shows where the main characters can NEVER die unless they suddenly decide to sacrifice themselves

  • if you liked those random deaths may i suggest blassreiter to you. There are so many random deaths in that anime that you dont know who the main character is until half the series is over

  • you want to know somthing.....that what real life is. and thats how you get people to feel and worry about characters......course i quickly learnt not to attached to any characters in blue gender. but it was hard not to so i had to stop watching as i was in "high school emotional state" when i watched it. should watch it. but the main guy at first is such a wimp it infuritated me. i just came off rehab of shiji doing it to me. so went awya came back last few eps.now he is the badass and shecrys

  • Still, we got hit with the syndrome of everyone getting killed but them a few times I think.

They get verry lucky a few times you have to admit.

    Though, nothing wrong with that.

  • LOVE BLUE GENDER ITS AWESOME

  • Hell to the yes. Best anime ever! they need to continue it already

  • It's storyline was finnished. They left no reall openign for a continuation. With the blue all dead why keep a story going when it would feel forced at best?

  • One of the few themes re-done in English that I like better than the Japanese version. Excellent work on this one.

  • definitely like better than the japanese

  • This show is sick.

  • Brandi Evans Busby sings this opening...daphne sings the closing (English versions)
