I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner. You've done quite well. Intonation is a little bit of an issue but I SERIOUSLY wish I had been a fraction as good as you are now when I was your age. Just keep up the good work and you'll go far. Bravo!

Hi, I would say that Sankyo could be an option if want to go in orchestral work. However, uf you are into solo playing or smaller groups I think Sankyo' sound is over the top. It' to frantic, if you know what I mean. Pearl on the other hand semmes a bit liveless to me, although more intemit than Sankyo. You might wsnt to try Brannen Brothers (which I play now), Haynes or Powell.
Personally. I like the Pearl over the Sankyo. I don't have a bias. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. I thought your sound was a tad bit sweeter, and a little more crisp. You had cleaner attack as well. On the Sankyo, your sound was well projected, clean technique, and warmer(that could also be because you were more warmed up when you played this on the Sankyo).
I think the sankyo just allows for a bit more variety of tone, but then perhaps that was just your playing. I also want to say to just watch your tuning, particularly at ends of phrases and such, sometimes passages are sounding a little forced too...if you understand what I mean, I think it's just to do with controlling your air, but I'm sure it'll come with time. Good luck with the flute (Y) :)
Wonderful! It's not the easiest selection, and must have taken bit of stamina to play. I prefer flute #2 (Sankyo?). To this amateur ear, it seemed more melodic in the high register where the Pearl (#1) seemed more piercing. I am no where near your ability so I hesitate to judge. I'm 60 years old, and I'm reminded of what I have NOT done with my musical talent during my life. I still play, but not this caliber of music. Keep playing and pushing yourself to excel. I wish I had at your age!
Well done, it's not an easy piece. I like the Sankyo sound better btw, seems a little more subtle, or more "fitting" for you anyway, greetings from the Netherlands, Josette
This piece brings back memories. I remember playing this sonatina on flute for one of my diplomas and on recorder for the Edinburgh Festival two years later. There's not really a lot to choose between the two flutes and some of the subtlety will be lost through YouTube, quality of speakers, etc. Perhaps you should choose the flute you feel most comfortable with(for whatever reason) and stick with that one. Good playing! (double-tongued chromatic descending from top F# - tricky).
Thanks for your lovely message. I really really love this piece. When i first heard it i didn't quite connect with it at first, but after a couple weeks of learning it i fell in love with it. I hopefully will post the other movements soon! Yes the double tounging part is tough!!! I have never been good at it so it annoys me that i can never get it. im getting better at it tho! ;) Kind Regards, Dee :)
Wow,.you progressed so much in Purcell, nice playing and great stamina! You played very well on both flutes, I agree with Jemtheflute, it's the player not the flute. I can't tell much difference, both are good professional flutes. I never played Pearl before, but I am regretting my Sankyo, but that is just my experience.
I really hope you not choose Sankyo, the felts will come off after few years~its contact glue was not strong enough, the blowing angle was very narrow and hard for me to make big changes in tone and colour, and too much overtones~upper partials, and you have to blow a lot downward to make the tone pure or less airy. That's just my own experience - could be wrong, maybe different by you, you may adapt fast and better than me. Please play test more to find out if Sankyo is really good for you.
Thanks for both messages. I am very much swayed to the Pearl. I find it fits me better and it feels very much like my old flute where the Sankyo just feels so much different. I do love the sound the Sankyo makes, it's a little deeper and warmer but the Pearl is sweeter, purer and more colourful.
I never new buying a new flute would take me so long but i need to make sure this flute is right for me. It will have to last me until i go to music college. :)
Well played! Not my kind of music, mind - can't say I like all that thumpy-clangy piano! Flute line isn't bad.
You sound like you on both flutes (usual story - it's not the kit, it's the player). I can't really tell much difference between them - it'd be interesting to inter-cut the performances and see if the instrument changes showed!
If you insist on a choice, I think (tonight) I marginally prefer the Sankyo - but that could be because you were better warmed up if you recorded 2nd on it?
Thank you for your message :) It's funny coz i really like the piano part in this piece..hehe:) it's energetic and very lively but your right it does come accross very clumpy in this video. It's a backing track i found off some website. Plus the sound isn't to great on youtube. Anyway how are you doing?? I'm not on here much these days as im always so busy at school but it's easter hols now so im back for a bit. I will DEF check out your new videos, sounds very interesting :)

@pyrioni Well, you know kust as well as I do that the player is most important of all. :)

Both Versions sound great.
In my opinion, the articulation sound a little bit clearer on the sankyo. Also the tone is very rich on the second one.
I play a sankyo too, and I like it a lot. Let us know which one you'll choose :D

The second flute has a richer sound. Play them both for awhile before you make a choice because it can change once you adapt. Nice job!!!!

Very good! Some mistakes, but, like as you said : " i haven't yet perfected", but it's very good! :)
I prefer the Sankyo sound! Most resonnance, little bit powerful! Less of resistance on the E3. (Maybe you have a split E mechanism?)
