It's beuatiful, but not really "psycheldelic". This is more like the kind of art style you might find on fine English tea set. But, it is gorgeous and a show use of great wealth for the time. Right on John! Verrrrfry groovy, man.
I'm reading a biography on John Lennon right now, and it talks about how the Beatles used to hotbox this baby on the way where ever they went! I think john was a bigger stoner than some realize.
so one day i was looking at the world record book and i see this car so i stared reading about it and it said this was john lennons rolls royce the most expensive car and i was omg this was john lennons car! man i want that car so bad!
It is a pity that this piece of Beatles nostagia remains in America. Why is it not in England? This is where it was made and where John bought it and used it. It is right hand drive - it belongs in it's home - England. The same as The Queen Mary and other historical things the Yanks have 'charm-cheated' us out of.
Thank you for posting this though. A wonderful piece of nostalgia
@starryian007 It's in North America because in the late 70's, John and Yoko had some tax problems and didn't have the cash to get themselves out of it, so they did a deal whereby they donated the car to part of the Smithsonian Institute in exchange for getting a quarter of a million cut off their tax bill. The Smithsonium sold it in 85 and ended up eventually in Canada
Mice piece. amazing car - very individual. Ihave read that it actually had a fold down bed in the back but can't confirm it - and yes R R were furious it was painted.( I believe it was painted by a team of Dutch I think ) artists - known as The Fool. Better known for the huge mural they painted on the building that was the former HQ of Apple Records. If you check up online you will see it ( 23 Saville Row?) It was circa 68 - Imagine was 71 .

As a chauffeur of vintage Rolls Royce Phantom and Silver Cloud Motor Cars...it is sacreligious to do such a murderous paint job on a fine piece of art. Phantom's are rare in general. Yes John Lennon is an icon of music history. But he had crap in taste for paint! I may be an "old stuff shirt" but at least I know and understand the concept of a Rolls Royce Phantom! He certainly did not appreciate its finer qualities.
this was the first car ever to have a TV built into it. such an innovative person, it's a shame he couldn't be in charge of modern governmental and educational systems.

yes a guy who watches tv in his car always gets my vote to run government and sculpt educational policy. if his wife can tie herself up in a bag and wail i would reccomend the him for head of NATO.
Are you completely fucking retarded? do you even know who he is? he did allot more than put a fucking TV in a car, He stopped the vietnam war! he made countless donations to worthy causes, attended and organized over 40 piece rallys, constructed in assosiastion with yoko the theary of total communication, created an advertizing campagin for the Relief of Bangladesh ETC. you should really think before you speak.
Does anyone know where this car is located now? I remember seeing it in Cloverdale British Columbia where it sat in a museum many years ago. Back then you were even allowed to sit in the car. It Just sat in the corner of this warehouse which was an old museum but has since been closed.
Jim Pattison Industries Ltd., in Canada owend the car, and made it a gift to HM the Queen in 1987. The car was moved to The Royal British Columbia Museum in 1993, to be stored safely and securely, and used on display for fund raising.
The car is in London at the moment, hired for the filiming of John Lennon Naked, a new film by the BBC. It both looks, and sound fantastic...
The car was painted by David Vaughan. Manchester artist. Who also painted Paul McCartneys piano. Whose daughter is Sadie Frost. I know coz I grew up with him.
obamayomama, ur hipocritical dip-shit. first of all he got this car in 1965 and he wrote the song ur refering to, imagine, in the mid 70's. and wat do u think u wud do if u had millions of dollars? wat, wud u just live in a little shack and not spend any of it? of course not, u wud spend it on something that you've worked for and deserve. so dont u dare say anything like that about john lennon again cuz he was a good man who shud still be alive and wud be if it werent for that damn mark chapman
Well, a lot of politicians and preachers had luxury cars too{Not to mention all of those oil sheiks in wacky-tacky Saudi Arabia :-p}. Not to mention trevor0195 happens to be right.
Lovin' all your limousine pictures! I'd like to be the guy thats dad had the Limousine / Funeral Service in Finland with the ten unusual limousines pictures like the 1961 Ford.
I have looked at limousines for sale at small car lots and their not that old and sell for about $7,000.00 in great shape! You could go out and party with Zsa Zsa Gabor! If the car gets pulled over let Zsa Zsa Dah'lin do the slapping!
He was driving it somewhere once when an old woman ran into the street and started beating the car with her umbrella shouting, "How could you do that to a Rolls-Royce?!"
youre both off the mark-even if you adust the 1958 jags price tag for inflation, the highest price paid for ANY car was just over 8 million for a 1930 bugatti royale. allthough some of those new 1-2 million dollar exotic sports cars are supossedly sold at a loss, do you really think they build cars with the intent to lose money? get real
I hate to burst your bubble, but its far from the worlds most expensive car, about every Ferrari GTO cost more than this the 1958 Jaguar XK150 cost more than this. There are probably thousands of cars that are more expensive, some as high as 20 million.
I beleive that the statement means that at that time, "In June 1985 the car sold for $2,299.000.00 at Sotheby's making it the worlds most expensive car."
I'm sure there are more expensive cars 23 year later!
so where is the car now I believe it was in sSurrey BC at one time

Almost as cool as the psychedelic school-bus in the Stargate SG-1 episode, "1969"
"Chevron 7 locked, man!"
"Far out, Walter"
"Indeed" ... LOL

Correct. I, myself, own a beautiful, gas guzzling, global warming, Lincoln Town Car. The difference is that I nor
the politicians and preachers don't wonder if you even can
imagine no posessions. John Lennon was a hypocrite.
He also got what he deserved for claiming the Beatles
were bigger than Jesus.
