I think most people won't find his remarks offensive. The best part of the British sense of humour is rudeness and arrogance. It is such an acquired taste that only truly intelligent people will appreciate it. We do hope heartedly that HRH will carry on.

Personally, I think the Duke of Edinburgh is brilliant. Anyone with half a brain knows His Royal Highness never sets out to offend and, while I may be a tad tactless and have a rather risque sense of humour, he has done a lot for this country (the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, to name just one). Long life to him and God save the Queen!

What a funny guy! Sounds like he would be a cool Grandad, imbarrising, but funny! I met him once at Dressage over a period of 3 days and he seemed alright. Always made an effort, but now I know why, he probably picks out things to laugh about from people.

from what my old man tolled me wasn't really into formal engagements and all that piss, but i guess it comes with the territory thats why he didn't spend much time with the officers. Now the Queen is due to speak or something in Melbourne next day, not sure what but as the story goes he ditch his escorts during the night, went to Frankston train station caught it to Richmond station, went to sleep on a bench at the station, woken up by a station employee to his shock

he ask the station employee for how far some place was he was staying and if there where any taxi's that time in the morning to take him there. I guess the wife was super pissed about it, never made headlines or anything makes Prince Harry's drinking escapades look pretty soft. All in all he one alot respect from the RAN Sailors that night, and my old man still laughs his arse off about it to this day. His one the boys mate!!!
