No, it's the right color. I have an ERTL Sixteen, and Chris Awdry's complete collection, and Sixteen is a dark red.

I have the ERTL Sixteen as well, and the character in both the model and books is depicted in a sort of mix between brown and red (a bit more brown though). The Sixteen in this video is too dark red, and it looks more like a crimson colour.
