I cant believe not a single person has not picked up on the fact... that once ths whipped cream mixture of beeswax and olive oil has set it will become solid.... thats the nature of beeswax unless it is muxed with many other ingredients. And why be such a cheap skate and use borax there are other alternatives to bind the ingredients together.
borax/sodium borate is safe in concentrations under 5% by volume for infant skin, and is also used in food products approved by the FDA. this recipe is far less than 5% borax. many commercial skin care brands use borax in their products.
@katyellow The FDA are liars. Borax is toxic. Aspartame is toxic. Thousands of things approved by the FDA are. It's all about money. Period. Anyway, there are other emulsifiers like lecithin that work just as well as borax and beeswax. For your own sake, please research everything before you put yourself at risk.
@1slamicLife i've done my research, do yours. regardless of your conspiracy theories about the FDA, it's been proven that borax isn't well-absorbed by unbroken skin. so unless you're putting this cream in your eye, on open wounds, or eating it there's no risk in using it, since it will not be absorbed. the borax also prevents the build-up of bacteria, fungi, and mold, which can be infectious if applied to the skin. lecithin will not do that.
borax and beeswax on the face?!?!?! yeah well, people should understand that once the chemicals combine and react they stop being borax and beeswax and completely turn into something harmless... same as NaOH (lye) in soapmaking...
@rj2837 >>> Boric ACID is used to kill ants and roaches. Please be properly informed, and please..be kind ..consider your comments and wording b4 you hit post.
ermmmm...............Bee's wax certainly dose clog the pours...Im a beauty therapist and aromatherapist, so i know what im talking about. And BORAX is very very dangerous, please people do not use it. Its banned here in the uk and Europe. Check out chemical data base, That will tell you all you need to know about what goes into any products, your skin absorbs over 60% of what you put on your skin, and on average people use over 150 differnt toxic chemicals on there skin daily .
ALSO as a side note, baking soda is not an emulsifier or a preservative so it will not replace borax. the cream will work without the addition of borax because beeswax is also an emulsifier, but it won't last as long without the borax to prevent microbe growth.
borax is not absorbed well by unbroken skin. putting it on your face isn't the same thing as eating it.
google: "CIR safety review" borax
(don't forget the quotes)
everything is bad AND good in certain doses. small doses of nicotine improves concentration in alzheimer's patients. small doses of alcohol can raise HDL-cholesterol. mustard gas has been used in small doses to treat cancer and cardiovascular disease.
not saying borax is good, just that concentration is important.
i looked this up. borax is in a lot of commercial face creams and it's fine as long as it's less than 5% by volume. in this recipe the borax is less than 0.6% by volume. so i'd say it's FINE. yall should do your research before dumping on someone's work.
So i just made my fist batch of facial cream. I had to change one ingradient, I used arrowroot instead of borax because I am living in Belgium and could not find Borax here. So when I mixed the arrowroot with the water there were clumps I couldn't get out. IS it because I heated the pan first? How can I get rid of clumps?
Borax?...I agree it will take off not only the make up on your face but stripe your skin of it's natural oils and then the borax will be penetrate into your blood stream....yikes...better do your research
@taygurl33 Neither oils nor beeswax will clog your pores. They are actually really good for your skin. You could have been allergic to any one of the ingredients, or perhaps the borax stripped your skin too much :c
@nortonwhale You were right! i actually went to the doctor because i ended up getting a rash and the and there was something in it that irritated my skin. And thanks! i thought for sure beeswas and oil would clog your pores! i had no idea they wouldnt!(:
@taygurl33 No problem! A really great facial cleanser is extra virgin olive oil/ sesame oil/ sweet almond oil - that is the only ingredient!
Just put a warm washcloth over your face/ steam your pores for a few minutes. Then use 2-4 table spoons of the oil you choose and massage into the skin.
@nortonwhale Use a loofah while the oil is on your skin and when you are done cleansing massage the oil away with warm water. Finish with a cold rinse.
Use this method to replace your daily facial cleanser. Using an oil cleanser will not strip away your natural oils. After a few weeks your skin should balance naturally and equalize oilly vs dry skin.
I have been making lotions/face creams for years and you do not have to use Borax. This is why you have to read labels before you buy. I use all natural ingredients. I would not but the crap that shes making on my face or body.
@woolyhairs Hey I had to go back and read my comments.. I make so many :-) I use all natural ingredients in all of my products. My questions are: How does it feel once applied to the face? Does it feel thick and greasy? Or does it feel light and fluffy? Does it blend into the skin or does it only sit on top of it? Does the moisturization effect last a long time or will your face feel dry again an hour later? These are all important questions I wish she had addressed.

Liquid lecithin is suggested elsewhere as an emulsifier. Do not use the granulated kind because it will not melt.

@katyellow One cigarette won't kill you. A pack a day for several years certainly has a better chance of killing you..
Does this mean you should break the middle ground and have one a day for several years?
No, it's probably best to avoid things like that in its entirety.

1/2 cup olive oil, or oil of your choice
1/2 ounce (by weight) of grated beeswax (2 slightly rounded tablespoons)
Apply a small amount to face and tissue off excess. Blot with towel if needed.
