Evi1M4chine. If you are such a" smart ass" do let us have Damasio's definition of emotion - or your own.? . Writers constantly confuse emotions with instincts, drives, moods, attitudes and behavior.
They also claim ,although most do not agree entirely with one another as to,which,that there are a large number of discrete "emotions" when, in fact all emotion, as experienced, falls within alternative categories of our perception of threat or promise...
Damasio refers to the subject being "cold shouldered" and "shunned" during the twentirth century. . That is untrue. Substantial research has continued withoutt receiving publicity. What is more evident is that most writers, especially psychologists have paid scant regard to the subject, Why? Because emotion has not been defined satisfactorily and remains a phenomenon which is fraught with semantic sloppiness.. If Damasio has any acceptable definition. I cannot find it in his writings.
Between him and Ramachandran , really beat down the philosophers.

@connorchapman1: You’re American, right? The only country I know, where people link “smart” with bad. Well, go figure…
If you ask me so “nicely”, of course I will have my own definition. :P
Now what? :D

@MaBu888
I highly recommend Damasio's book "The Feeling of what Happens". It presents the most compelling concept of consciousness that I'm aware of.
