This truly was the top, the pinnacle of epicness and awesomeness and ineffable greatness. FF6 is the best, technically, but somehow FF4 is the real best. It contains the core essense of Final Fantasy.
Im not gonna lie when I first heard this song i might've been 4 years old now, I'm 17 now... This FF was one of my favorites Idk why O yea its because it was so fun even for me being 4 years old not even knowing how to play... Just watching my brother play it and listening to this song made me so happy. Now being 17 I can play it realizing even at 4 I had very good taste in video games. To get to the point... 13 years later I love this game.
this FF game is the one I've beaten the most, probably because it moves so quickly (and is much shorter than all the subsequent FF games). Every song on the soundtrack is top notch as well.
P.S. whatever happened to FF games being full of likable and heroic characters? SE really needs to take a few notes from this game for the next FF.
the best is at the end when they touch all eight of the crystals and teleport to the final dungeon and cecil is surrounded by the other 4 and he nods as if saying "let's do it!"
Final Fantasy 2 was my first RPG, I'll never forget this game. I rented from my local video store as a young Jr. High kid. This game is by far the best Final Fantasy game I've ever played. I have so many memories of this game. Listening to this music makes me cry tears of joy and am now 28 years old. Wow...how time flies. I love this game so much :)
@sokiet Red Wings just fills me with a sense of pride like you wanna sit up straight or going into battle against an enemy that is superior. It's an awesome song and I'm happy that someone else grew up with it too as their first RPG, I'm 22 now and i still remember like it was yesterday shoving that cartridge into the SNES not knowing i was actually beginning on something that would make me who i am today.
@sokiet This was my first FinalFnatasy game also. Now I have beaten I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, Mystic Quest, and Adventure. What memories indeed.
ahhh the classic final fantasy days, remember getting the last copy at funco land when i was younger when they released this classic game still an amazing game up there with chrono trigger and the lufia series
When I booted up FF4 and this music was playing in conjunction with Cecil on his way back to Baron from Mysidia, having flashbacks and feeling remorse for his role in what happened... I knew it would be an epic game.
what a glorious, climactic battle this would be. the beginning part; the troopers are being lead to battle, the latter part; the clashing of swords between a hero and his arch nemesis.
Final Fantasy IV really set the bar high when I was a young kid. The action, the music, the drama, it blew my mind to see such a masterpiece put into my hands. It's my favorite RPG of all time and will be my favorite RPG for a long time.
The intro scene really set the tone for FFIV. Instead of starting out as a nobody, or a hero-to-be peasant, you start out as Cecil, dark knight, commander of the largest & most feared military in the world, Baron.
FFIV was one of the first games I can recall that didn't start you off as a blue boy hero. Hell, you were the villain---you robbed the nation of Mysidia of its crystal. The rest of the game was about redemption.
I'll never forget the intro, or the Paladin scene. Just epic.
@gavacho17 Its release was very very well-timed: if not a release title for the Playstation, then close. Square were already adept at RPGs, and since the numbers behind this game (its combat system) would be essentially applicable on any format, they were able to execute the idea optimally, on a new format, with un-seen graphics. Their utilisation of a new presentational means meant that they would cast a huge net, and they did. That's my guess as to why it's so popular.
@gavacho17 you know, as a fan of the old school snes FF games, i give FF7 a lot of shit, but actually it's a great game. i do still think it's overrated relative to this and FF6 but it's still excellent. i would definitely invest time in playing it...but it still has NOTHING on xenogears!
@gavacho17 Twilight Princess for the gamecube = soo soooo good
Final Fantasy IV was very special to a lot of people, i wasn't around when it was released but i purchased it later (to complete my collection) as i bought Final Fantasy VII.....blew me away!
Ocarina of Time though is by far a very very special game to me, it set such a high bar for 3D gaming!
cecil is my favorite final fantasy character. if there was a group battle between cecil and kain versus the entire cast of good guys on ff xiii, cecil and kain would wipe the floor with them. that's how badass they are. in fact, i'd love to see that.
lol WTF, this sounds nothing like a FF7 song. the drums are a big give away. Too many FF7 lovers out there, there are 2 or 3 better FF games out there.
I don't think they'll ever match the epicness that is this game again. God I miss the old school fantasy before the characters started wearing rediculous outfits in liue of freaking armor.
@Freyboy100 Originally yes it is, but on the US this was II for the SNES like VI here in the US was III for the SNES. Confusing, yes, but I'm glad they fixed it now.
This version is so easy to a child to play. But the first japanese release is a serious shit. Zeromus kicked my ass 10 times. Win with fucking lucky at 60 ><
You know, I'm 31 now-- one of those "first generation gamers." I still remember this soundtrack. This game is most definately one of my favorites of all time, I really miss the old final fantasy games.
Looking back I think it's kind of funny how my parents thought I was always playing some light hearted game, some plumber jumping on turtles. Little did they know the Final Fantasy world was fuckn serious business. I know this sounds kind of nerdy, but when I played this one I was VERY young... 5 or 6. I really think the early Final Fantasy's aided my brain intellectually.
These song to me it by for the best battle song even though we never get to fight with it. I remember watching those first couple of spells being cast like wow.. 4000 damage.. those were the days.
man i love this theme! listening to this brings back so many memories... im here looking at my super nintendo on my dresser and it has this game in it... im gonna play it!
also i noticed and if uu could upload "into the darkness" (cave theme) and "land of summons" thx
a battle march with a very sad overtone which perfectly describes the character.... man shit was so pure back in the day. my name's cecil too so i took a real liking to this char WAY back when i first played it too lol

i thought that characters often had names no one had mostly. but hey i was wrong and you lucky guy have the same name as one of the best main characters in the series.
To me, this doesn't sound quite like the snes version. It's almost the same but slightly off. The one on youtube called "Final Fantasy II (SNES) - The Red Wings" sounds more like what I remember.

It uses the original graphic system, so dont expect 3d graphics and full motion video. but the old graphics are still great in my opinion
unfortunatly, the first part got terrible reviews. the encounter rate is apparently ridiculously high and it's only like part of a game revolving around 1 character at a time. I want to play it for the sake of being an old school fan of this game when i was a kid, but I don't know how it will make me feel.
Youtube's wierdness keeps me from tracking the origin of your response, but I assume you're talking about The After Years? I hear the encounter rate is no different than the original game, but it's just considered too much for today's gamers. Could be wrong since I never played it, though... Anywho, it's a multi-parter, and I hear they all join together in the last part which is about half as long as the rest put together, so it's really like a lot of other normal games when it's complete.
hm. I certainly hope so. I also agree that gamers these days are too picky about encounter rates. that's more than half the gameplay, the encounters and boss fights. love it or STFU.
The rival/best friend to the main character is always more bad ass than the main character himself. how would you feel to have a less awesome guy as your partner?
yup!!! lol had this for snes and my dad MADE ME SELL IT!!!! for 20 bucks! id love to have finished it...but the cart was defective it wouldnt hold saves...
I believe that FFIV was indeed a great game but I wouldn't say that the ones after had soundtracks that weren't as good. FFV had a good dungeon theme. FFVI had a lot of good character themes like Celes, Terra, Edgar and Sabin's themes. FFVII had themes like 'Judgment day' and the really well known 'Aerith's theme'. but you're right, FFIV did have some really great ones.
I agree completely, although with me, it has to be the main FFIV theme that really brings me back. Though I loved Uematsu in FFVI and VII, I personally feel his work in IV is the most inspired and nuanced.

unfortunatly, the first part got terrible reviews. the encounter rate is apparently ridiculously high and it's only like part of a game revolving around 1 character at a time. I want to play it for the sake of being an old school fan of this game when i was a kid, but I don't know how it will make me feel.
kefka3 2 years ago

It has to be said, I'm not a fan of the American Final Fantasy covers. The Sword and red background don't beat Kain or the Dragon or M-Tech Armour.
Neogothic 2 years ago
I haven't seen the Magitek Armor cover, but Kain is totally awesome. But Cecil was the main character!!
Musiczee 2 years ago
Kain was more of a badass than Cecil lmao! No disrespect to my man Cecil but, Kain was awesome.

The rival/best friend to the main character is always more bad ass than the main character himself. how would you feel to have a less awesome guy as your partner?

Best theme EVER!

don't care what anyone says, this is the best version of this song, the DS and orchestrated ones suck hugely.
agnew17 2 years ago 7
yup!!! lol had this for snes and my dad MADE ME SELL IT!!!! for 20 bucks! id love to have finished it...but the cart was defective it wouldnt hold saves...
pizzaman3210 2 years ago
Yeah I remember the instruction manual even said you should save multiple times in case a save is lost lol

I'm sooo glad I bought this for SNES instead of GBA or DS. It is MEANT to be played on the bog screen with big speakers.
ValisFan2 2 years ago
The orchestrated ones are nice, but it would seriously be a lot better with some brass instruments in the background, as it sounds like here
ddog92841 2 years ago 3
Yep i would agree entirely

No song imbues me with more nostalgia than this. First game I ever played when I was 4.
This is when Nobou Uematsu retained his true genious; a shame later soundtracks lack such personality and luster.
LONG LIVE FFIV!
Pseudopathaso 3 years ago 10
I believe that FFIV was indeed a great game but I wouldn't say that the ones after had soundtracks that weren't as good. FFV had a good dungeon theme. FFVI had a lot of good character themes like Celes, Terra, Edgar and Sabin's themes. FFVII had themes like 'Judgment day' and the really well known 'Aerith's theme'. but you're right, FFIV did have some really great ones.
Arcthelad56 2 years ago 2
Uematsu's overflowing creativeness :)
Musiczee 2 years ago
I agree completely, although with me, it has to be the main FFIV theme that really brings me back. Though I loved Uematsu in FFVI and VII, I personally feel his work in IV is the most inspired and nuanced.

The intro to this game affected my life greatly, I played it for the first time when I was 6 and I was totally drawn in to this world.

As soon as I started the game (years ago), and I heard this play, I just knew this game was going to be something special.
