I don't know if anyone has listened to the commentary on the DVD, but it's pretty funny when Paul Reubens and Tim Burton are talking about this scene. Paul Reubens basically describes how in the original script he had written a scene at the end where a picture of Pee-wee dressed that way ends up in a cell with Mickey (since he is recaptured) and then certain things are implied when he goes to visit him in prison at the end of the movie, and Tim Burton goes, "that's its own movie."
