You can improve the transportation trick by removing the necessity of a double card and any need for preparation of the deck by shuffling up your routine a bit.

First do a double lift, display card, and then place top card in your pocket. Then do a second double lift and then place top card with the vase or whatever. Then do your patter and display the switch by palming the top card ("their card") and "pull it out of your pocket" leaving the original top card in your pocket still.
