That's because of the square cube law. To double the speed of a vehicle the drag goes up by the square but the power required goes up by the cube. 8 times more power!
For a set speed, Halve the drag, 4times less power is required

I don't think it was necessary to make the car ugly (huge smile face on front end) in order to improve aerodynamics. I still like the car though.
